All eyes are on yesterday’s annual, and very dramatic Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was a night of glitz and glamour in the spirit of Paul Poiret, the “King of Fashion“. No doubt this is New York’s top red carpet event where celebrities play dress-up and showcase designer creations for style shutterbugs. The exhibit for the event is “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” - like totally cool (says The Fash-E Geek). You know this event is gonna be BIG when big names such as Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, and Cate Blanchett were hosting the event.
There are so so many gorgeous, breath-taking gowns - seriously, I don’t even know where to begin. I’m not going to waste my time posting the fuglies (I’ll leave that to Go Fug Yourself). In my opinion, these lovelies are Fash-E’s red carpet superheroes of the night:
Possibly my ultimate favourite. It’s almost an interpretation of Wonder Woman goes Hollywood glam. Christina Ricci looks super lovely in her “sheer coral and red Givenchy concoction”. Love the belt!
Ivanka Trump always made an impression on me - for not looking like her father, if you know what I mean. She looks angelic and goddess-like in this flowly J. Mendel gown. Love the jeweled head piece, that totallyEmmy completes the look.
Lookin’ fabulous in sunshine yellow is Kate Mara in Zac Posen asymmetrical belted number. We see alot of ruffles, detailing and pleats in this red carpet. Kate really stood out from the rest and the limelight is definitely shining on her.
The new member of Gossip Girl, Michelle Trachtenberg gives a golden twist to the Grecian/Nautical one-shoulder dress with cute rope belt. I love the metallic gold touch - definitely a head-turner!
Emmy Rossum looks down-right sexy and stunning in this Phi lace mermaid gown. The silhouette fits her perfectly and as you know, I’m a big floral print fan. It has a corset, lingerie undertone to it which I find it very enticing.
Amber Valletta, one of the most beautiful women in the world - looks crazily pretty in her metallic champagne column gown with mock wings. This could be a classic red carpet piece - with a superhero touch.
Finally, an Asian presence! Zhang Ziyi plays safe in black but this Giorgio Armani couture number boasts “intricate cross-hatching, pinwheel florals, and sparkles adorn everything from head-to-toe”.
On the quirky side, Maggie Gyllenhaal gets playful with Peter Som resulting in “this poufy, strapless eggplant dress” with “ruched bodice, oversized bow, uneven hem, tulle — but it’s very Maggie!”. I absolutely, completely agree. Love the scarlett lips.
Mrs Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes - possibly the craziest lookin’ A-list star at the event. You know what? I absolutely dig this! It’s so refreshing to see her break-out of her sophisticated “I’m so clean and proper ever since I married Tom” into this “hot mess”! This strapless Giorgio Armani dress paired with cool cobalt pumps gets my two thumbs up!
Nothing compliments Miss Eva Longoria-Parker better than “curly pleated ruffles of her full-skirted aubergine Marchesa gown”. We say, gimme more ruffles!!
A classic mermaid gown, with feathery hem! Blake Lively looks awesome in this black Ralph Lauren gown and don’t we love those black gloves as well? Hmm, gloves in Singapore sounds tempting but ridiculous at the same time.
Diane Kruger went short and chic in this cute, flirty grey Chanel frock! She double rocked the look with hot pink heels and pink nails!! This is my inspiration look for the month. Grey and Pink - noted.
Jennifer Connelly steps out of the ‘gown’ zone and create a style of her own in Balenciaga. I love her stunning choker-like necklace resembling a peacock.
Currently the highest paid model, Gisele Bundchen stole the limelight in this hugging Versace gown. The silhouette is amazing and cuts in the right curves. I want that body, dammit!
