Countdown: 18 Days to Japan!

Konnichiwa! Japan, here I come!

You’ve no idea how excited and thrilled I am about this trip. I blogged about Tokyo in last year’s Christmas wish list. In 18 days, I’ll be stepping into Shinjuku shopping district, sleeping in Ginza, eating bean cakes/sushi/yakitori and voyeuring in Harajuku. I simply can’t wait for my virgin trip to JAPAN!

Dear readers, I need your help.

Where should I go? Where I shop? What should I eat?

I was talking to BB yesterday about places to shop in Tokyo since he just got back from Japan Fashion Week 2009. I hope he sends me the list he promised! OMG, I’ve to start doing my research and make lists… only 18 days! I still haven’t got my rail pass.

The other thing I’m excited about is cherry blossoms in Kyoto.

It’ll be sooo beautiful… I wish I have a good camera when I’m there. I can’t wait for April! I’ll be staying at a traditional Japanese guest house (which costs a bomb) called Ryokan. Hopefully that would be a great experience. And, I love sightseeing – something peaceful about that. I’m so happy!

Do give me travel tips, because I’m super ‘lost in translation’:

Tonight, I’ll be announcing the winner of the Plueys “I Love Rainy Days Because…” Contest. Stay tune! Maybe tomorrow if I’m too tired after ‘The Winter’s Tale’ – last show! I can’t wait to see the cast doing magic on stage.

Fash-Icon: Lady Gaga!

Fabsugar calls her “the Grace Jones of our time, with her dynamic over-the-top costumes that she seems to never take off!” I’m personally hooked to her catchy, dancy tunes. The 23-year old Lady Gaga may be theatrical but her style definitely stood out in today’s saturated teeny boppy market. Believe it or now, Lady Gaga gained early admission to the prestigious NYU Tisch School of the Arts and started penning songs for Pussycat Dolls by age 20. Talk about an over-achiever in music! It is no wonder that she scored herself a record contract. Her style has also influenced big names such as Christina Aguilera. Let’s see what the fuss is about:

Can you see the 80s Madonna influence? Inspired by glam rock and 80s pop.

I’m fascinated by the structural dresses that defined Lady Gaga.

Of bows and black gloves.

Black is always the new Black.

This Bubble dress is the bomb. I wonder if she burst it, after the show.

Very Madonna. Hello, Fash-Icon!

Sneak Peek: Christian Lacroix the Costumier

After the Audi Fashion Festival 2009 press conference, Carlos and I popped by the National Museum of Singapore to check out the Christian Lacroix the Costumier exhibition. It was a perfect day for a museum visit as there were no crowds except for a few art students on a mission to complete their assignment (Carlos included!). I was truly excited to immerse myself in 20 years of costume design work, from costumes to sketches by fashion genius Christian Lacroix. Bring on the Parisian music, charm and haute couture!

If you haven’t visit the exhibition yet, let me show you why you should:

Audi Fashion Festival 2009 Press Conference

Fash-E was invited to the Audi Fashion Festival 2009 Press Conference this afternoon for a meeting with the organizers and also an exciting preview of the upcoming show. I was thrilled to have the first look at the first-ever Audi Fashion Festival 2009 in Singapore and to meet like-minded, stylish individuals. As you know, I first blogged about the festival almost two weeks ago and I was genuinely amazed by the line-up! This event is a major boost for the local fashion scene – and also a chance for me to meet Gareth Pugh in person! I bumped into the wonderful Carlos from Vogueite and the girls from Fashion Nation at the event where we shared the ‘front row’. I whispered to Carlos, “This is our Anna Wintour moment”. Haha. Here are the juicy details:

Carlos and I had a chance to speak to Colin McDowell MBE (the lovely man on the left) to ask him a few questions about the Audi Fashion Festival 2009. If you’re wondering who is he: He’s one of the most respected fashion individuals in the world with thirty years in fashion as a designer, stylist, editor, journalist and biographer. He’s also the author of 16 books on fashion – I mean, he’s like the bomb! Thanks for taking the time to talk to the fashion bloggers, Colin :) Oh, Ashley Isham designed the limited ‘jewels’ Coke Light bottles which was revealed at the press conference today (see above).

Firstly, why supermodel Jacquetta Wheeler to open Audi Fashion Festival? Colin said, “Why not?” Enough said. She’s a fantastic supermodel according to him. I guess we were expecting a bigger name like Naomi Campbell or Kate Moss. No offence, really. In 1999, The Face magazine declared her the ‘Model of the Millennium’ – that says alot.

A sneak preview featuring an outfit from each collection before a sleek lookin’ Audi R8 rolled in with Singaporean model Charmaine Harn who is the face of the Audi Fashion Festival 2009. Sweet.

The organizers (from left): Tjin Lee (Managing Director & Founder of Mercury Marketing & Communications), Dr Frank Cintamani (Founder & CEO of Fide Living), model Charmaine Harn, Reinhold Carl (Managing Director of Audi Singapore) and Colin McDowell MBE.

Look at how statuette these models look! I feel like a Hobbit next to them.

Ooh, the fierce lookin’ Audi R8 – I want. Stay tune for more Audi Fashion Festival 2009.

HAWT. Ed Westwick + Helena Christensen Frolick Party!

I haven’t had time to catch this week’s episode of GG. I’m sure I’ll find time over the weekend. In the meantime, tell me if this is hawt or not. From Harper’s Bazaar, this editorial totally turned the heat up for Chuck Bass character or Ed Westwick. The lusty Helena Christensen is completely drool-worthy. I wonder if this was inspired by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore – it seems like the older woman-younger man trend has become acceptably sexy now.
