This is not a food blog but Taiwan is like a street food haven. I just have to blog about it. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of Taiwanese street food. To sum it all, they are mostly GREASY and SWEET. I probably consumed 100,000 calories every day – my tummy is completely preggers. I need to workout – seriously. It was a good ‘eating’ experience. The food are inventive and interesting – a definite must-try for an authentic Taiwanese experience. I think I ate more than I shopped in Taiwan. Here’s a summary of all the interesting street food I tasted during my trip:
Ah Chung Mee Sua at Ximending, Taipei.
This is rice noodle with intestines – I know, I know. But it’s simply delicious! There are no seats – you will see a big crowd holding bowls of these noodles and slurping away.
Eight Treasures Dessert & Mango Shaved Ice Dessert @ 168 Guangzhou St, Taipei
This is a must-try. I personally love the desserts!
Ice-cream Popiah @ Ximending, Taipei
One of my favourites, I bought this interesting wrap from an illegal hawker. It’s popiah skin with shaved peanut candy, chinese parsley and two scoops of strawberry ice-cream!
Fruits @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei
Yes, you do need some fiber when you travel. I love the honey stuffed tomatoes.
Stinky Tofu @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei
Hmm, this is definitely an acquired taste. It smells like shit (literally) but tastes pretty good.
Oyster Omelette @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei
Not a big fan. I dislike the sweet sauce they drenched the omelette in. I like it savoury.
‘Aiyu’ Jelly @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei
You can find this everywhere. It’s a refreshing drink/dessert with a splash of lime. Look out for the “frog” light box – you won’t miss it.
‘Shui Qiao’ or Steam Dumplings @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung serves the best food during my Taiwan trip. These are delicious!
Papaya Milk @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung
AWESOME. AWESOME. Endorsed by Chen Shui-bian too.
Candied Fruit Sticks @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei
BBQ Squid @ Ximending, Taipei
Sour Plum Juice @ Danshui, Taipei
Carambola Juice @ Ximending, Taipei – very famous, I hear.
Baked Pork Buns @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung
Taiwanese Sausage @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei – huge!
‘Loh Mei’ @ Taipei Zhongshan Metro Mall, Taipei
Herbal Tea @ near Longshan Temple, Taipei – FABULOUS!
Have fun eating if you’re in Taiwan!
