Last Christmas, I watched highly-rated, multiple award-winning film, ‘The Artist’, a brilliant silent film about a silent film star who refuses to embrace the future of talking pictures and his encounter with a young ambitious dancer. The film reminded me of the liberation of the ‘new’ women affectionately known as flappers and modernization of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. Let’s not forget the iconic Coco Chanel who created the ‘Garconne Look’. That woman changed the face of fashion in the 1920s – which is why I simply DIE for Chanel everything. ‘The Gatsby Girl’ look is facing a revival this season. High-fashion brands such as Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs are inspired by the Roaring Twenties for their Spring 2012 collection. Fringe dresses with rich silk, feathers and intricate embellishments are back with modern interpretations.
Here are some inspiration pictures from ‘The Artist’ and my picks from Spring 2012 runway looks. If you’re interested, you can shop for your very own fringe dresses and be a Flapper for the day! Don’t forget the Flapper attitude
The beautiful Bérénice Bejo as Peppy Miller in The Artist. Gotta love her costumes!
And, how can you not love Jean Dujardin as the silent movie star, George Valentin
He’s so drool-worthy!
The original Flapper. I was told that my current hairstyle looks like 1920s silent star, Louise Brooks.
Gucci took cue from the 20s Flappers and Art Deco motifs for their Spring 2012 collection. Zoe Saldana, Camilla Belle and Rachel Evan Woods rock the Flapper-look at the LACMA Art and Film Gala.
What if Flappers can time travel to the future? Marc Jacobs imagined the futuristic Flapper for this Spring 2012 collection.
The Golden Twenties is all about luxury and dresses are adorned in embellishments, feathers and rich silk. Ralph Lauren Spring 2012 collection captured the era perfectly in a romantic way.
Marchesa Spring 2012 is so gorgeous, I don’t know where to start! If there is one thing a Flapper’s gotta do during the Jazz Age, it’s dancing! These fringe dresses are made for late night partying.
Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 is all about feather love! I want them, now.
