Trendspotting: Headwrap

I blogged about the hippie headband trend awhile back. Now, I’m shifting my focus on Urban Outfitters‘ new range of headwraps. I absolutely want them! Headwrap is a simple way to jazz up your lovely mane with minimal effort yet look ultra-chic.

This is something different from what I’ve been seeing. This mesh flower headwrap is a darling. I can imagine wearing this on a lovely Sunday at a picnic or just strolling in the park with my Boy. Hee.

Ikat is a style of weaving and also tie-dye - hence, this fabric is translated in this Ikat headwrap. It adds an ethnic flavour if you’re thinking of going bohemian.

This skinny feather headwrap is really pretty, and sexy. No worries, no peacocks were harmed during the design of this headwrap. We don’t believe in animal sacrifice for the sake of fashion.

Step aside braided headwraps and make way for this unique linked headwrap of interlocking pieces of leather finished with a suede tie. Let’s hope it doesn’t leave stress marks on your forehead! Go headwraps!

Life is a Masquerade

(Photo: Kirsten Images)

Who loves themed-parties? My friend, Janice is throwing a Masquerade 25th birthday bash at House @Dempsey on an undisclosed date (just in case there will be party crashers!). I haven’t been to a theme par-tay in awhiel thanks to my very boring life. So, here am I seeking inspiration for the fabulous party and I’m on the hunt for a dramatic mask. Yes, I’m all about drama!

(Photo: Kirsten Images)

This is Masquerade on the ‘cheap’. Just a simple strip of black veil across the eye - as inspired by Marie Antoinette. This simple ‘mask’ works due to the elaborate 18th century costume and electrified hairdo.

(Photo: Gossip Girl Online)

Our favourite Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf threw a Masquerade ball in which Nate came as the ‘Phantom’ and lil’ J is looking hot in her Venetian mask that compliments her golden locks. Hot inspiration, I need to watch that episode again.

(Photo: Movies Media)

Janice said her party is inspired by her favourite movie of all time, Phantom of the Opera. I’m sure the boys will turn up in their Phantom or Guy Fawkes masks. I’m excited to see the varieties that the guys will turn up with.

Talk about classy. Blue Moon is “a big centre of production of the traditional Venetian paper mache masks” located in Venice, Italy. I fell in love with the masks on their website - but of course, with excellent workmanship - it comes with a price. I am digging the idea of this Gattino mask that costs EUR$123.00! Must find a close alternative to this. Hmm.

You want drama? This Cignetta mask is going to absolutely eccentric, with its metal and Swaroswki crystals finishing.

This is quite similar to lil’ J’s mask called Catwoman. I love.

Maybe hand painted mask? I like the idea of it. What do you think?

Spotted: Pink Hair Clips on Trixie in ‘Speed Racer’

(Screenshot: myspacetv.com)

After all my Speed Racer hype, I finally caught Speed Racer last night - and it was a mind-blowing experience! I don’t understand how it got such conflicting reviews but I guess this isn’t a movie for everyone. This is prolly the coolest ‘shot-on-green-screen‘ film since Sin City or 300.

Trixie has a distinct sense of style. She’s always seen in matching hair clips (see above, aren’t they cute!), lipstick and top or even shoes! Let’s do pink entirely, or red - depending on your mood. I was so smittened by her character that oozes with everything cute and quirky. And, don’t we love that bob?

Watch this music video of “Go Speed Racer Go” by Ali Dee and the Deekompressors.

I’m so hooked!

Susie Bubble on Fashion156

I blogged about Vogueite recently in Style: Magazine. Now, Susie Bubble modelled in the latest issue of Fashion156. I’ve to say the photos are awesome, and I’m a green-eyed monster! It must be really fun - playing dress-up and striking a pose in amazing clothes. Congrats to Susie again for lookin’ gorgeous! Here’s a preview of the fashion spread, but do visit Fashion156 for more:

Trendspotting: Hippie Headbands

You know what’s hot? I’m seeing hippie headbands making waves in fashion blogs and lookbooks. I can tell you that I’m absolutely digging this style. It’s a simple accessory that adds a vintage touch and brings out the bohemian princess in you! Forget about thick, colourful headbands ala Gossip Girl - because the 60s are back to style your lovely mane.

(Photos: Littledoe)

Based on Lulu of Everybody is Ugly’s recommendation, Littledoe is an amazing fashion discovery! It makes be want to wear a unique headpiece like tomorrow (if I get my hands on one, or… DIY!). The lookbook is sooo beautiful, and it has such a surreal look or treatment. Anyway, Littledoe headpiece is “one of a kind and entirely handmade from the highest quality antique materials”. Do contact them if you want your very own.

(Photos: Fashion Toast)

Rumi from Fashion Toast also sported a thin braided hippie-like headband for her vintage eBay shop, Treasure Chest Vintage. She’s prolly one of the more stylish fashion bloggers around - and I really like her sunshine-kissed skin tone and long blonde hair. Sigh, I wish my hair is longer. Another thing about hippie headbands - they do look better on silky long hair. Adds to the bohemian flavour.

(Photo: Fabsugar)

Here’s an example of headband crime commited by our dear Mary-Kate Olsen when she wore an 60s-inspired Marc Jacobs headband from his Fall ‘08 collection. The fashion forward Olsen, basically jumpstarted the trend - in a rocky and err… furry fashion. When Rock.The.Trend blogged about this, I thought maybe I couldn’t get used to the idea of a furry headband - on a hindsight, I think it’s fug-ing fugly. I like my hippie headband thin, and pretty - not like some roadkill.

Here’s a weekend D-I-Y project for moi: Create my own Hippie headband. Anyway, Happy Labour Day! Woot.

I Heart Victoria Mason Jewelry

When I was young, I find it exciting to form the most perfect, and longest pencil shaving whenever I sharpen my pencil. Yes, I’m easily thrilled and satisfied - thank you very much. Victoria Mason’s sharpening pendant is the bomb! Created due to the fascination for perfect pencil shaving, this necklace is made of sterling silver and available in red or blue.

Besides, there are other necklaces inspired by childhood and the honest sense of wonder - ‘saved you a seat‘ and ‘paper plane‘ are amazing as well. Currently, Victoria Mason is only available in various parts of Aussie and NZ.

Do check out VM’s very cute earrings as well. I particularly like peg and your toast. So incredibly adorable.

Holy Calamity!

I was reading Frankie magazine yesterday and I spotted Holy Calamity! from Western Australia. Their eclectic, adorable charm necklaces are such darlings. As seen as the picture above, it’s like reliving your childhood ‘playing teatime’ days - wearing your heart around your neck.

I like the pink sneaker charms as well - in all honesty, it’s not hard to make these necklaces. With the right tools and charms, you can easily D-I-Y this (for the frugal fashionista!). Then again, do you have the time?

This is the steel ‘pearl’ necklace. This could easily go with any outfit due to its versatility. What do you think?
