AFF 2012: What I Wore to Audi Fashion Festival 2012

I haven’t been blogging about what I wore this Audi Fashion Festival 2012. To be honest, I didn’t wear anything particularly exciting. I was busy running about from day till night – and mostly in flats. I decided to share a couple of photos that was captured by Rei Shito of STYLE FROM TOKYO as well as John Tan from StreetPeek. The awesome hosts of Razor TV‘s Who Wore What, Sara Ann K and Rohai also interviewed me on the last day of AFF 2012 for their “Stars love local designers” episode. Tralalalalala, have fun!

Shot by Rei Shito of STYLE FROM TOKYO. This is the first time I am featured in a street style blog *happy tears* My buddy from a prominent online magazine, Chrystal looked fab in pastel colours.

What I Wore: Turquoise peplum top from ZARA, black organza shorts from H&M, tights from House of Holland, sequin flats from Steve Madden and red envelope clutch from Mimco.

Shot by John Tan for Future Fashion Now. It’s the last day of AFF 2012 and I decided to put in a ‘little effort’ and wore my platforms instead of flats (yes, guilty as charged – running about is impossible in heels!).

What I Wore: 1960s vintage top from Granny’s Day Out, digital print leggings from Esther Perbandt, 2.55 bag from Chanel and limited edition Azalea platform from Jeffrey Campbell (exclusively available from Akira).

The bubbly Sara Ann K of Razor TV and dashing diva Rohai of ST Urban interviewed me (as well as celebrity couple Oli Pettigrew and Linda Black) in Episode 13.4 of Who Wore What at the closing show of Audi Fashion Festival 2012, Roland Mouret F/W 2012.

AFF 2012: Closing Show – Roland Mouret Autumn/Winter 2012

It’s the closing show of the Audi Fashion Festival 2012. Roland Mouret brought sculptural glamour to the runway with his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The Tent@Orchard may be a little quiet but the enthusiastic crowd waited patiently for the grand finale of AFF 2012. I felt conflicted by the end of the day. One half of me wanted to crash on the bed badly. Another half of me wished the excitement continues. Roland Mouret’s A/W 2012 collection is inspired by Paris’ “big freeze” of 1947 and pastel hues such as lemon, powder blue, ash green and soft grey. The idea of pastel colours for winter is refreshing. His architectural creations are mind-blowing from all angles. I was genuinely in awed by his elegant, fashion-forward collection with origami folds, defined peplum and feminine draping. Till next year, I will remember this year’s awesome AFF.

Singapore model Sheila Sim walked for the last time for AFF 2012 and of course, Roland Mouret himself.

AFF 2012: Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2012 & Fall/Winter 2012

It was the show that everyone was ‘waiting’ for on Saturday: Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2012 & Fall/Winter 2012 show at the Audi Fashion Festival 2012. The American designer turned up the drama on the runway as models glided down in immaculately designed mermaid gowns and figure-hugging dresses. A couple of models were struggling to keep their balance on the runway but all eyes are peeled on the beautiful creations. The Princess of Malaysia was spotted in a Zac Posen mermaid gown with a train (apparently, a model stepped on her gown during the show!). She was quickly ushered backstage to meet Zac Posen in person together with her entourage. It is not news that Zac Posen is such a celebrity magnet! Zac Posen is looking to expand his business in Asia – which made me wonder, “Who would wear these gowns in hot, humid Singapore?” I guess there are enough tai-tais and princesses to add to his clientele list.

The bloggers managed to get a photo with Zac Posen backstage. Ahh, what a moment!

So, I’ve been wearing my Montblanc stacked rings as well as my Forever and Carrie K ‘knot’ rings to AFF. LIKE?

AFF 2012: alldressedup Autumn/Winter 2012

Saturday was a looonnnnggg day for me. I started off the day by shopping at Blueprint Emporium followed by Parco next NEXT and CLEO Runway Search 2012 shows at Tent@Orchard. Of course, the night doesn’t end there. Singaporean label, alldressedup showcased their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection at the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 with their feminine yet quirky silhouettes and delectable fall colours of black, white, teal, taupe, mustard and grey. alldressedup is famed for its wearable, everyday pieces which is the main reason why the label is so successful. I found myself getting restless in my seat and counting down to the next show. I wished alldressedup pumped in a little excitement into the show rather than doing what they do best.

Super stylist, Karen Ng is back in Singapore! She’s wearing Balmain and Christian Louboutin‘s The Isolde in Black from the 20th Anniversary Capsule Collection. HAWT!

AFF 2012: CLEO Runway Search 2012

CLEO is probably the first fashion/lifestyle magazine which got me hooked on fashion, makeup and boys. C’mon, which girl in Singapore doesn’t grow up with CLEO magazine? I was happy to receive an invite from CLEO to attend the CLEO Runway Search 2012 show at the Audi Fashion Festival 2012. In fact, my lovely mum was my date to the show. For the first time, I actually scored front row seats! Yay! It was a refreshing change to see non-models walking down the runway with their family and friends cheering them on. They may not be professional models – yet, but I’ve to say they are definitely on the right path. I gasped a few times as a couple of contestants wobbled in their super-high heels – seriously, I would have fell flat on my face. Of course, we were treated to delightful eye candy as the CLEO eligible bachelors strutted down in Levi’s clothing with the gorgeous Carrie Models including Sheila Sim. Congratulations to Siti Nadiah for winning the CLEO Runway Search 2012!

Watch Episode 15 of Fash-Eccentric TV: CLEO Singapore Editor Cheong Kamei announced the winner of CLEO Runway Search 2012.

It was a FULL HOUSE at Tent@Orchard as friends and families came to show their support.

Strike a pose!  Contestant Siti Nadrizah walked with confidence.

Contestant Dawn Bey (also a blogger!) is one of the hardest competitors to beat.

Ooh la la, CLEO eligible bachelors! You know, I’m getting a little too old for this haha.

Hello Sheila Sim, once again! Probably one of the hardest working models in Singapore.

Thank you CLEO for the wonderful front row seat and goodie bag!

AFF 2012: Parco next NEXT

Singapore’s fashion incubator project, Parco next NEXT show at Audi Fashion Festival 2012 featured Pauline Lim of PAULINE.NING, who graduated from the programme in April 2012 as well as 20:TWOTHREE, Episene, evenodd, LION EARL, MASH-UP, MILS and QUAINTHOOD. I’ve to admit that I’m not particularly well-informed about the new crop of homegrown talents. Thus, the Parco next NEXT show at AFF2012 is an excellent opportunity for myself to ‘learn’ a little more about these fresh talents. The new intake of Parco next NEXT designers showcased their Spring/Summer 2012 collections with bags from Veira by Tan Wey Ling. Alumnus PAULINE.NING collaborated with Ideas Empire and the Museum Label earlier this year and her collection walked the runway at AFF2012. You can start shopping these labels at PARCO Marina Bay from April 14th.

20:TWOTHREE Spring/Summer 2012.

Episene Spring/Summer 2012.

evenodd Spring/Summer 2012. Nat Ho in the house, yo!

LION EARL Spring/Summer 2012.

MASH-UP Spring/Summer 2012. Probably the most “fun” bunch in the line-up.

MILS Spring/Summer 2012.

PAULINE.NING Spring/Summer 2012. My favourite collection from the show – hands down!

AFF 2012: Singapore Designers Showcase feat. DEPRESSION, a.w.o.l and Saturday

I would be lying if I said I’m not exhausted. The past week has been amazing, frantic and tiring. I didn’t make it to the Audi Star Creation showcase as I checking out the designers at Blueprint trade show on Friday, May 18th. I managed to rush to Tent@Orchard for a quick interview with the guys from DEPRESSION (watch my video below for the interview). The inaugural Singapore Designers Showcase is a last-minute addition to the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 schedule featuring a.w.o.l (all walks of life) by Alfie Leong, DEPRESSION by Kenny Lim and Andrew Loh and SATURDAY by Nic Wong and Daniel Loh. Each homegrown label showcased 15 looks from their Fall/Winter 2012 collection and these collections will be launched in the final quarter of the year.

After four years, AFF has continued to support homegrown labels with amazing platforms at Tent@Orchard and Blueprint trade show, like no other platforms available in Singapore. The Singapore Designers Showcase is a positive step forward to greater international exposure for independent Singapore designers. Kudos to the AFF organizers!

Watch Episode 14 of Fash-Eccentric TV. I interviewed the designers of DEPRESSION before the Singapore Designers Showcase.

SATURDAY F/W 2012 by Nic Wong and Daniel Loh opened the show with casual knits and jersey dresses, leggings and scarves (which you can’t exactly wear it in Singapore!). SATURDAY toned down the colours for the F/W 2012 collection with grey, black, blue and bronze hues that will easily appeal to the all. See the full collection on my Facebook Page.

Moving on, DEPRESSION F/W 2012 by Kenny Lim and Andrew Loh explored the dark side of theme of “plastic surgery” as they always have with all things medical. It was a 180 degrees flip from SATURDAY‘s comfortable, wearable pieces. Let’s be honest, you need attitude to pull off DEPRESSION and this is not a label for the masses. From studs to multiple draping, DEPRESSION definitely made a statement and stayed true to their design philosophy. See the full collection on my Facebook Page.

a.w.o.l (all walks of life) F/W 2012 collection by Alfie Leong wrapped up the showcase with graphic prints, jackets and striking head pieces. I love the gold collared harness worn by Singapore model, Sheila Sim and other bits and pieces. I’m not a fan of the graphic prints – a little too busy for my liking. See the full collection on my Facebook Page.

AFF 2012: Future Fashion Now feat. Jonathan Simkhai, Saena and Juma

After my first Future Fashion Now show feat. Timo Weiland, Yeojin Bae and Esther Perbandt, I was SOLD. This is the future of fashion as we closed the gap between the designers and consumers. For the first time, consumers become as they pre-order online via the Future Fashion Now website via their iPads as the models strutted down the runway. I wish I could do that on the spot but the 3G network and Wifi connectivity was not favourable. I’m pretty sure the entire Tent@Orchard was trying to connect! The second Future Fashion Now showcase on Friday, May 18th featured Jonathan Simkhai (New York), Saena (Berlin) and Juma (Toronto). Check out their collection at the Future Fashion Now website and see below for the photos from the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 show.

Jonathan Simkhai Pre-Spring 2013 is a candy-coloured delight with pastels, stripes and uber-cute collars. The Parson graduate kept his collection relaxed and light for the upcoming Spring season. I can’t wait to get my hands on those adorable, candy striped shorts (picture on the right). See the entire collection and order them here.

Saena Pre-Spring 2013 collection is what women want. Soft, flowy chiffon dresses with undefined silhouettes that can suit all body shapes. I’m particularly in love with Look 20 (picture on the left), a goddess-like dress in fresh cherry red with orange undertones. See the entire collection and order them here.

Juma Pre-Spring 2013 is all about digital prints and rich colours. I was at Blueprint yesterday and their scarves were flying off the shelves. Look 16 (picture on the right) is such a gorgeous tie-dyed printed dress with sexy slits – perfect for attending a beach wedding, don’t you think? See the entire collection and order them here.

AFF 2012: RAOUL Fall/Winter 2012

RAOUL is the first Singaporean brand to show at Audi Fashion Festival 2012 and you bet the entire Singapore turned up! Well, I’m exaggerating but you know what I mean. The coveted seats for RAOUL Fall/Winter 2012 filled up within minutes. The seat numbering confused a few guests as tai-tais and local fashionistas scrambled for their seats. Singapore designer Ashley Isham managed to find his seat just seconds before the lights were dimmed. What beautiful chaos!

RAOUL F/W 2012 collection is inspired by iconic 60s style and women such as Mia Farrow, Catherine Deneuve and many more. According to @RAOULfashion on Twitter, the key inspiration for this collection is “Intersection: when one idea or direction meets with another”. The show started with two ‘almost’ identical models walking down the runway in a black and white Margot Piped Dress, a classic 60s style shift dress. We spotted plenty of colour-print blocking dresses, draped dresses, flare skirts, silk shirts, foil leather jackets and of course, my favourite – the orange and black houndstooth coat. The show ended with an elegant, silk Belle beaded gown in white and an orange/black printed gown with bejeweled neckline. Who’s going to wear these two red-carpet worthy creations? Viola Davis? Jennifer Lawrence? Let’s make a bet. See below for my video of the RAOUL F/W 2012 show at AFF this year and exclusive backstage pictures:

AFF 2012: Future Fashion Now feat. Timo Weiland, Yeojin Bae and Esther Perbandt Pre-Spring 2013

The first show of Day 2 of Audi Fashion Festival 2012: Future Fashion Now showcase featuring Timo Weiland (New York), Yeojin Bae (Australia) and Esther Perbandt (Berlin). So what’s Future Fashion Now? It’s the world’s first live streaming fashion week that allows YOU to pre-order the collection by the designers in real time. Isn’t that cool? Instead of tweeting, “Oh my gosh, I would totally buy this!”… you can ORDER and BUY the collection from your mobile devices. I bet everyone was trying to log on to the site as the 3G network was down during the show! Of course, the preferred payment is by using MasterCard. It is so refreshing to experience these young, emerging designers’ works as they are all distinctively different. I can’t wait to meet them at Blueprint Emporium this weekend to talk about their work and of course, shop their sample pieces! Do check out Future Fashion Now and pre-order their collection now until 19 June 2012.

Rei Shito from Style from Tokyo was spotted outside Tent@Orchard. I love her kawaii-ness!

Esther Perbandt Pre-Spring 2013 collection is fierce, sexy and confident – just like the designer.

Sheila Sim opened the show with Esther Perbandt Pre-Spring 2013. I would totally order this dress.

This Timo Weiland Pre-Spring 2013 skirt is made of raffia and looks delicately gorgeous.

Timo Weiland Pre-Spring 2013 collection is such a delight and wonderfully made.

I love how feminine and wearable YB J’aime by Yeojin Bae collection is.

This final YB J’aime by Yeojin Bae  look resembles the dress I wore last night to AFF. What fascinates me is that she hand-embroidered this dress and it is soooo beautiful.

Watch Episode 12 of Fash-Eccentric TV: The final walk of YB J’aime by Yeojin Bae Pre-Spring 2013 collection.

Yeojin Bae and Timo Weiland (in polka dots, of course) had a good laugh after the show as their music accidentally got swopped during the show! Of course, I didn’t notice the French music for Timo Weiland was a little ‘odd’. Haha, that’s kinda funny.

AFF 2012: Opening Show – MUGLER A/W 2012 + After-Party with The Misshapes

Audi Fashion Festival 2012 has officially started! What’s a fashion festival without the ‘drama’? I arrived at 7:30pm (well, ‘fashionably late’ is not really my style but I had a good reason why I didn’t turn up on time) to a huge fashion mass standing outside Tent@Orchard because Nicola Formichetti was still ‘filming’. You can only imagine the chaos when the doors are open at 8:00pm. Read my lips, chaos. This year, I was issued a media pass but not a seat (which reminded me of last year’s Opening Show experience). I am just glad to watch the show! Plus, my sixth sense told me to wear flats last night (haha). Guests hardly had time to mingle and enjoy their Magnum ice-cream, Nespresso and San Pellegrino as everyone was quickly ushered to their seats. The good PR folks from ICON International Communications kindly offered me a seat which they didn’t really have to. Thank you, guys!

Like Colin McDowell said, “Nothing beats watching a fashion show in real life”. This is the same reason why I keep coming back to AFF year after year.

It was pretty much a full house. Everyone is here to watch MUGLER A/W 2012 show for the first time in Singapore.

Watch Episode 11 of Fash-Eccentric TV. The final walk for MUGLER A/W 2012 and how Formichetti and Piegne forgot to receive their flowers! LOL.

The MUGLER A/W 2012 started with slow, floating models and ended in a blink of an eye.

After one Instagram update and two lousy photos (haha), the show was over in 7 minutes.

After the show, we popped over the Red Dot Museum for the Belvedere Vodka Official Audi Fashion Festival 2012 After Party with MUGLER featuring The Misshapes and Michaelangelo L’Acqua. Let me tell you, the music was awesome! Apparently, three Korean celebrities (Lee Hye Young, Cha Jeong An and Uhm Jung Hwa) popped by and left in a jiffy.

The Misshapes started spinning around midnight and everyone went bananas over Leigh Lezark. Nicola Formichetti turned up about the same time and partied hard with fellow fashion fans and I love how he happily obliged to take photographs with everyone. Such a rock star!

Put on your Belvedere Vodka goggles! Meet my new friends from Fashion TV.

AFF 2012: AFF Opening Day Press Conference with Nicola Formichetti and Sebastien Peigné of MUGLER

Two more hours to Audi Fashion Festival 2012 Opening Show: MUGLER A/W 2012 – and I’m not dressed or anywhere near ‘ready’. In fact, I’m blogging at my desk surrounded by my new Francfranc goodies which just arrived yesterday. I just got home from the AFF Opening Day Press Conference with Nicola Formichetti and Sebastien Peigné of MUGLER. If you’ve been following my Twitter, you probably have read ‘pretty much’ all about it. Formichetti, Peigné and Joël Palix, CEO of MUGLERspoke about how Formichetti became a part of the French fashion house, MUGLER in 2010. Well, it wasn’t easy convincing Formichetti to join the House of MUGLER for sure!

I particularly love when Formichetti spoke about the correlation between money and creativity. There is a lot of money in Singapore and that can sometimes stifle creativity (how true!) because you can buy everything and you don’t think harder to solve ‘problems’. You can already buy solutions. I used to work in an arts university – and this is the constant struggle we faced when dealing with ‘authorities’ with plenty of money to invest in creativity. BUT, they don’t understand that you can’t simply invest in people and force them to produce magic.

Watch Episode 10 of Fash-Eccentric TV featuring the AFF Opening Day Press Conference with Colin McDowell and Nicola Formichetti.

Colin McDowell introduces Nicola Formichetti, Creative Director of MUGLER.

Colin McDowell with the House of MUGLER: Nicola Formichetti, Sebastien Peigné and Joël Palix (CEO & “money man” of MUGLER)

Sebastien Peigné, womenswear designer of MUGLER spoke about working with Formichetti.

Alright, a photo opportunity with Colin McDowell and House of MUGLER.

Guess who will be sitting in the front row? Meet Tallulah Harlech, model and aspiring actress who contributes to Vogue.com. Her mother, Lady Amanda Harlech is a long time muse of Karl Lagerfeld – isn’t that fashion royalty, people? She is wearing a blouse from RAOUL and dress from Ossie Clark.

Till tonight, AFF 2012 Opening Show: MUGLER A/W 2012 and the after-party with The Misshapes!
