I Heart Timmy Woods ‘Eiffel Tower’ Clutch

(Photo: Fabsugar)

If you’re a Lulu Guinness fan, you’re going to love this. Timmy Woods is America’s answer to quirky designed accessories. As seen in the new Sex and the City Movie, Carrie Bradshaw is seen in this quintessential ‘Eiffel Tower’ clutch with crystals while snogging Mr. Big. OMG, the clutch is like the cutest ever! I kept hinting to my boy about the ‘birthday’ that’s coming very very soon. You can also purchase the non-crystal alternative from Nordstorm, which I personally think looks nicer than this one:

Look Book: Mimolette Sunday Brunch

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning, three girls and two boys decided to have a yummy Sunday brunch at Mimolette Restaurant & Bar. Initially, we planned to eat, lounge and smell horse poo at Rider’s Cafe, but it was super crowded with Tai-Tais, Tai-Tais-in training, and expat families. Keron, Funky’s son is going through a ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ sword fighting phase. Haha, so the boys were fighting off their lives! I had a delicious treat of lemon shouffle hot cakes with maple syrup - definitely a must-try!

Top: Floral top from Glassons

Bottom: Washed-out denim skirt - shortened

Bag: Black floral embossed satchel bag from Catherine Manuell Designs

Shoes: Sandals from Vincci

Belt: Faux Leather from Far East Plaza

Moe Moe and I went to Felt Boutique yesterday for their sale! Thanks to Wottoncool for their wonderful tip. I managed to snagged a practical satchel bag from Catherine Manuell Design while Moe Moe walked home with a pretty turqoise/white pair of heels which I love to! This bag is going to be my staple work/school bag for the next semester. There are so many compartments which I soooo love - happy buy, happy girl.

Carla Bruni: The First Lady of Chic

One week ago, Moe Moe was candidly chatting with me about how chic Carla Bruni, First Lady of France. I couldn’t agree more. She is definitely a “fashionable” addition to the dead-pan boring political landscape. This Italian singer/songwriter/model was making headlines since her whirlwind romance with President Nicolas Sarkorzy was reported in late 2007 - and since their wedding, the pair were inseparable. All tongues are wagging about the most-talkabout couple, Bruni-Sarzokzy - and Fash-E can’t stop ogling at her ultra-sophisticated outfits styled by John Galliano, for Christian Dior.

Glamourous Grey
Carla Bruni
has transformed from an artsy ingenue to the epitome of class and sophistication - bringing ‘chic’ to world politics. For once, fashionistas are paying the well-deserved attention to the much-neglected fashion market. Guardian reported that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has appointed Bruni to “spearhead a government initiative aimed at injecting more style and glamour into British national life”. Don’t you think she makes grey looked like the most stylish colour? I love the ribbed wool suit and also the grey wool jersey dress and navy coat. Also, how cute is that tilted beret?

Lovely Evenings
We haven’t seen much fashion action since Princess Diana or Jackie O. Thank goodness for Carla Bruni! When you’re the President’s wife, you will internalise the savoir faire required for grand banquets and events. She was seen wearing a “gorgeous silk muslin bustier gown in Bordeaux red to a banquet at the Guildhall”. Also, a gown “which featured a bodice with a waterfall of ‘mille feuille’ ruffles, topped the midnight blue bias cut dress she wore to the state banquet the previous night”. Definitely highfalutin’!

The Colour Purple
The first ladies, Sarah Brown and Carla Bruni walked in style - but of course, Bruni rocked the colour - purple. She looked strikingly beautiful in her flashy purple coat among the greys and blacks. It seems like all eyes were on Bruni when she took off her purple coat. She also donned a purple slip dress that makes her such an eye candy before her husband’s speech.

Shoes Shoes Shoes
What shoes does the First Lady wear? Flats! A staple in Bruni’s wardrobe. You may ask, where are the heels? I guess love conquers all - she is willing to give up stilettos for flats to match her vertically-challenged husband. Another Tom-Nicole case. That’s why I don’t date men shorter than me, haha. Her black Dior pumps are soo cute and elegant - not to mention the classic black leather handbag, called The Babe . Anyone notice that Sarkozy is wearing stacked heels?

Bring on the Union Jack
I want this bag! Can someone tell me where she got this from? Hail the Union Jack! Why can’t the Malaysian flag be more interesting as a design element?

Singapore’s Top Fashion Faux Pas

I live in the city centre. Everyday, I walk around town and I see ‘clones‘ of one Singaporean female, to another. I remember the first time I came to Singapore in 2001, I was shocked to see thousands of The Ring’s ‘Sadako‘ look-alikes (read: straight, rebonded long hair). To be honest, I couldn’t tell the difference between the girls on the street apart from what they’re wearing. One thing I discover after living here for almost 8 years, there are more trend-followers here, than trend-setters. This place lacks individuality, and inspiration - does this sounds bitchy?

Disclaimer: I based my theory on my everyday observations (I like to people-watch) - and I admit my opinion doesn’t apply to all. There are very unique, trendy individuals out there - I know, because I’ve seen them. I’ve seen the mods, the hippies, the Haji Lane peeps, and vintage-lovers. I respect their guts and ability to create their sense of style, and being original instead of imitating one another. It takes a whole lot of effort to be shop, dress up and define your idiosyncratic look. Most importantly, I love people who are original. You can’t buy originality. I don’t claim to be the most original or cutting-edge person ever. I’m dead lazy, so shoot me all you want. In Singapore, I don’t want to be caught dead in these:

The “Little Miss” T-Shirts

(Photo: 80stee)

On weekends, my boy and I will play a game “Spot the ‘Little Miss’ T-shirts” and our record count was: 36 in a single day. That figure scares the crap outta me. There are variations - you know, “Little Miss Stubborn”  or “Little Miss Sunshine”. Maybe it’s a ’same same but different’ syndrome. You tell me. It’s only a novelty to wear it when no one else is wearing it. I can almost draw parallel to the Giordano ‘ME’ shirts syndrome, many years back. Then again, the ‘ME’ shirts are fuglier.

“I am not a Plastic Bag”

(Photo: iamfashion)

I totally support the ‘going green’ movement. Anya Hindmarch’s infamous ‘I am not a Plastic Bag’ canvas shopping tote was a craze awhile ago. The fakes arrived before the real thing - and you can buy it for less than $20 from pushcarts. I thought the idea of the bag was ingenious but soon after, it became the Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’-version of bags. Everyone was carrying it - but I guess that’s the whole idea of the campaign right? I guess the brand name rings “luxury” in everyone’s ears… and eyes.

Hello, G-String & Buttcracks

(Photo: lesjones.com)

How many times do we see this happening in school/work/Orchard Road? This famous fashion faux pas even happens to celebs (see Uma Thurman above) and I admit, it prolly happened to me at least once before. It’s not the prettiest view to see G-strings and buttcracks, unless you’re a VS model. So, to avoid committing this crime - do wear a belt, or a longer top to cover your “precious” butt.

I could think of more fashion faux pas such as plastic “invisible” bra straps that is sooo passe, or knee high boots with ultra-mini shorts (too pornstar, in my opinion). I guess the list goes on, fashion is still subjective right? But, don’t make it an eyesore.

Made in Tokyo

Tokyo Made: Dottie Pouch & Ichiban Tabi

I haven’t been to Tokyo yet - I’ve marked it in my 2008 “must-go” travel diary. Thus, I decided to do a lil’ preliminary research on what Tokyo has in-store for me in October. TOKYOMADE is a one-stop e-store that supports Japanese indie designers, and “shoppers can check out what’s happening on the streets of Tokyo and pick up some of the hottest Tokyo must-haves..” I’ve to say, there are some hidden gems within several mouse-clicks. Go explore! You’ll be delighted to find something that you’ve never seen before.

Tokyo Made: Mystery Novel & Leon

Mystery Novel & Leon

From toys to bags to kooky necklaces, TOKYOMADE has a variety of stylish treasures. I particularly dig Mystery Novel, it “has been handcrafted using fresh water pearls, white opal, swarovski crystals, vintage lace and an arm”. Yeah, an arm! It’s a “kitschy yet elegant necklace reminiscent of a 1950s murder mystery novel” - now that’s a story behind a design. On the flip side, Leon makes me laugh. Now, I can’t wait to go to Tokyo *fingers-crossed*

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Collection 2008

Is the new LV ad campaign targetting men or women? Or men who buys for women? You tell me. I’ve to say Marc Jacobs gives a creative twist with an alpha male-oriented theme to attract women’s attention! The Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Collection campaign features six influential supermodels of the past 20 years such as Naomi Campbell, Angela Lindvall, Natalia Vodianova, Stephanie Seymour, Eva Herzigova, and Claudia Schiffer.

The one and only, Naomi Campbel striking al pose in Paris for the LV ad campaign. She looks almost “friendly” in this picture. Who needs anger management when you can be ‘happy’ with your pretty LV bag?

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Collection 2008

The sexy Stephanie Seymour sprawled herself over the car. Talk about the correlation of sex appeal and cars.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Collection 2008

Eva Herzigova looks luscious and I absolutely want that patent pink leather bag! Argh.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Collection 2008

Russian model Natalia Vodianova has the fiercest picture but the fugliest bag - well, it’s classic LV. With all those bursting colours, aren’t you bored of the monograms already? I love colours, yum.

Fanny Packs - Making a Comeback?

Remember when you were growing up in the 80’s, the fanny pack was everywhere? People used it as a bag to carry things while working out or just everyday use really and even today, it can still be seen on the hips of Hawkers in Singapore.

An example of a regular Fanny pack.

Even as a child with no fashion sense, I abhorred fanny packs - they were just utilitarian pieces made of nylon and zips, with no nods towards style. So, when I read this article in the New York Times A New Attitude for the Hip I was surprised and somewhat impressed. I did further research and found Fannypack.com which states that “the fashion iconoclast” is back”.

First, I will show you some pictures that the NYT article showed - Fanny packs made with chic new shapes and some proper styling.

The above fanny pack is called the “Ammo Pack” from the line Number (N)ine by Japanese designer Takahiro Miyashita. I really liked the earth tones of the washed leather and the fact that it looks nothing like a typical fanny pack.

The above neon version is from Kris Van Assche. I think this version is perhaps a brighter nod to the old Fanny Pack and rather spoils the look of the whole suit. Not feeling this one at all.

Philip Lim shines with this belt clutch version of the fanny pack. I can see myself rocking this while out clubbing!

The above oversized coin purse version of a fanny pack is a creation by Alice Roi. NYT reports that the oversize coin purses were inspired by the notion of a chic French thief. I love that!! Alice Roi also stated to NYT that “I never saw the point of carrying around a 500-pound bag,” she said. “Technology has gone hands-free. Why not baggage?” True, true.

And here are some fanny packs from fannypack.com. I definitely can see that these bags are a step up - looks well made, chic yet functional! Oh and Fannypack.com states that the bags are constructed in strict compliance with fair trade standards for a hands free world that is a little more humanitarian. Indeed.

The "IT" Bag: Chanel 2.55

Latest Hollywood “it” Girls have been seen around town carrying the US $2675 price tagged Chanel 2.55 Handbag. It’s a Chanel classic in patent calfskin, available in white, black or ruthenium metal. The iconic bag was first introduced by Coco Chanel in February 1955 (as in, 2.55). For Chanel fans and collectors out there, this is a must! My fave is the white one. Will someone please get me one? Pretty Please?
