Fash-Review: Lalicious is in Singapore!

I’m a junkie when it comes to beauty products. Who doesn’t love pampering themselves? I have so many beauty products that could last me a lifetime. A new lifestyle online store, Soap ‘n Sorbet sent me some samples from cult beauty brand Lalicious. They are the Singapore distributor of this cult brand – so do check out their website. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of the brand prior to their email. I have to say that I’m sooo hooked on Lalicious bath and body products that I ordered more from the website!

Lalicious is a “high-end bath and body product collection that was created to moisturize and smooth your skin to perfection”! Their best-seller is the Brown Sugar & Vanilla line (which kinda reminded me of nyonya cakes for some reason). You can pamper yourself with their famous scrubs, butters, oils and soaps are available in eight scrumptious scents. Currently, Soap ‘n Sorbet only carries four scents at the moment – Island Guava, Passionfruit Lime, Coffee Bean Sugar Souffle, Sugar Kiss. I hope they bring in the other scents like Lily Mango & Tahitian Flower!

soapnsorbet-lalicious-3How to use Lalicious:

  1. Before stepping out of the shower, scrub Lalicious all over your body until the sugar souffle melts on your skin.
  2. Rinse off the excess and towel dry. Your skin will feel super moisturized and exfoliated!
  3. There is no need to moisturize after using Lalicious which is the best thing about the product.

Verdict: I personally tried Island Guava Sugar Souffle, Brown Sugar & Vanilla Souffle and Coffee Bean Sugar Souffle for a few weeks. My favourite is Brown Sugar & Vanilla but sometimes, I’m in the mood for a citrus scent – and I’ll go for Island Guava. Coffee Bean kinda smells like breakfast. Haha. I don’t know, it’s kinda weird smelling like coffee when I’m about to hit the sack. I like the fact that you don’t need to moisturize after using the product. It’s very oily – be prepared for that! Bubster doesn’t like hugging me after because I’m like super oily all over, haha. It’s good before snoozing in aircon environment because it really retains the moisture of your skin. Anyway, my skin feels amazing and I was so excited that I bought a travel set for my mum for Christmas. She’s also a beauty junkie like me. I can’t wait to try the other products. Highly recommended!

SK-II: Understand Your Skin

Advertorial:

skii-1

SK-II invited me for a personalised skin consultation at their Metro Paragon counter. I brought mumster along because she was curious about the brand for the longest time. I have very sensitive and acne prone skin – thus, I’m very careful when it comes to trying new skincare products. I have always been interested in SK-II Facial Treatment Essence since many friends swear by it! This consultation was a good time for me to get to know the brand and my skin condition a little better. The consultation checks the moisture and sebum levels of my T-zone and U-zone. Also, it compares my skin to the average of my age group. I scored the highest in elasticity – 94%! Yay!

This little computer is going to analyse my skin!

skii-3

See? It’s not as scary as it looks. Do pop by the SK-II counter for your skin consultation.

skii-4

The idea is to understand your skin better. I found out that I need to improve my pores.

skii-5

The following customised SK-II skincare range was recommended to me. After the consultation, I walked away with three tiny samples bottles of Facial Treatment Cleansing Gel, Facial Treatment Clear Lotion and Skin Signature. I can’t see the immediate results but my skin sure feels pretty good. I might consider getting their promotional gift sets (if they are still available!).

I Heart Chanel’s Le Vernis in Jade

chanel-jade-407

Look, I’ve got minty fingers!

I love experimenting with new nail colours. I got my hands on the most-coveted nail shade this Fall, the Chanel’s Le Vernis in Jade #407. First spotted at the Chanel Fall 2009 RTW runway, this minty nail shade became an overnight cult-obsession (including mine!). Chanel launched the hot shade during Fashion’s Night Out by offering complimentary manicures to late night fashionista – sounds like a great marketing tactic! Apparently, there is a waiting list to buy this in UK and even U.S.! I bought the second last bottle from Takashimaya. So if you want yours, hurry and get the last one. Right now, I can’t stop looking at my fingertips -  shameless!

Beautiful, really. I have pastel green but it doesn’t compare to Jade!

As seen on the runway.

I want that clutch too! To go with my nails :D

Trendspotting: Multi-Coloured Nails

I want candy-coloured nails!

I used to colour my nails in multi-colours until someone told me that I look like a clown. Now, look who’s laughing. I think its a fabulous idea to carry off “statement” manicures especially when they’re multi-coloured! You could easily get away with this since LA’s Tallulah Morton and New York’s Tess Brokaw were both spotted in funky coloured nails. I can’t wait to go home and paint my nails tonight. I’m totally going wild this weekend. You can easily get cheap nail polish from The Face Shop or Missha.

What’s your combination?

Angelina Jolie to Appear in More Ads for Shiseido

I feel like all I do nowadays is to announce which star is going to be endorsing which clothing line, beauty line, etc. Just goes to show – celebrity endorsement is not going away any time soon. But I am all Team Angelina Jolie, so I am all for her doing more promotional work for Shiseido.According to this report Angelina will appear in 3 separate beauty campaigns (for powder and eye liner, apparently). The campaigns are said to appear only in Japan, so sorry to you folks who don’t live in Japan (moi, included) but I will be sure to bring you more pictures when they are out!For now, you will have to suffice with a video of Angelina promoting for Shiseido’s Integrate line of cosmetics. She looks fab in that lip gloss. Now I want some, haha.

Black Nail Polish: When Goth Goes Glam

Black is definitely back. For nails, at least. This might be a lil’ outdated but hey, I just caught on to the black nail polish bug. I haven’t sported black nails since my supposed emo rock days. Now, all the rage is for Chanel’s limited edition Black Satin #219. However, this chic and sophistication beauty craze has gone a wee bit too far – prices have rocketed on eBay and there’s even a waiting list for this cute bottle of black varnish. It’s the hit sequel to Chanel’s Vamp polish when Karl Lagerfield showed models sporting dark varnish in 1994.

NY Magazine has an interesting article about the Black Nail Polish: A Brief History. As a Chinese myself, I never knew black polish was meant for royalty back in the ol’ days. Interesting piece of trivia.

This trend is definitely one of the biggest comebacks in 2006. And, it’s gonna linger for a little while in Spring ‘07. I’m thrilled as black nails are no longer meant for goths and bad girls, but it’s fabulous accessory that goes well with white frocks, tan skin, denim and the list goes on! Trend-setters like Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba were seen spotting with black nails (and even chipped ones – with Lindsay!).

Off The Rack also gives a few tipsters on ‘How to Get Black Nails like Jessica’. Read on:

1. Black polish looks best on short, square nails. Go too long or too pointy, and you look more like Elvira than fashionista.

2. Chips in dark polish are much more apparent. A protective top coat will help keeping your digits look perfect.

3. To get the color consistent across your nail, try 2-3 coats over a good basecoat. One coat will end up looking too streaky.

4. If you don’t feel like breaking the bank for the Chanel Black polish.

5. If black is a little too dramatic for you, try a dark red or a deep plum.

If Black is not your style, you can go for dark varnishes like Mischa and Jessica. They look fab and chic as well.

As Mara Taskin says, “Black nail polish is like the French manicure of last season”
