Fash-Review: Dior Addict Fluid Stick

Dior Addict Fluid Stick

I’m absolutely a lips-kinda girl – lip stick, lip gloss, you name it. If there is a new lip product in town, I can’t wait to try it like the new Dior Addict Fluid Stick. This innovative lip hybrid of a gloss, lacquer and lipstick sounds like a winner. It combines maximum colour impact, glossy shine and comfortable feel as if you are not wearing any makeup in a single stroke. Sounds too good to be true? Let’s find out.

The new Dior Addict Fluid Stick is formulated with water, not wax like a lip gloss. Once applied, the water evaporates leaving an intense, highly pigmented colour and moisturised lips. Available in 16 luminous, eye-catching shades for the ultimate fashionista.

Fash-Review: I had the chance to try four of its show-stopping, must-have shades: Pandore, Mirage, Aventure and Wonderland. At first application, the texture is definitely watery – unlike most lip product I’ve used. It does make it a little hard to be precise around the lip line (yup, it was a messy first trial!). It took practice to get myself applying the Dior Addict Fluid Stick like a pro. I love the  four “IT” colours especially Pandore – probably my favourite shade this summer! It looses its shine after meals, but nothing a single stroke of top up wouldn’t fix. Ultimately, this is a great, comfortable lip product which is great for summer. My lips definitely felt really moisturized throughout the day.

 Dior Addict Fluid Stick

The Dior Addict Fluid Stick is now available at all Dior beauty counters at $47 each.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick

Dior Addict Fluid Stick’s must-have  “IT” colours:

  • Pandore – A pure, radiant flamboyant red
  • Mirage – An incredibly lively tone, beige with a hint of pink
  • Aventure – An electrifying coral
  • Wonderland – A rush of pigmented fuchsia pink

NARS Summer 2014: Unlock The Summer

NARS Summer 2014 Collection

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll notice that I’m currently battling the cold, winter weather in Auckland. Honestly, a part of me is missing summer – the fact that I can strut around in just one layer and wear summer colours (instead of blacks, blues and greys zzz). I can still pretend it’s bikini summer in NZ and take a cool dip with the new NARS Summer 2014 collection.

Fash-Review: Pencil Eyeliners from Sephora Singapore

#THEHAUTELINE is here! I received a box of liquid and pencil eye liners from Sephora Singapore *jaw drops* which include 17 hottest eye liners from Lancome, tarte cosmetics, stila cosmetics, Dior, Marc Jacobs, Urban Decay, benefit and Sephora. Honestly, I don’t even know where to start. Let’s start by reviewing the pencil eye liners.

Fash-Review: Pencil Eyeliners from Sephora Singapore

#THEHAUTELINE: It’s time to put these 17 eye liners available at Sephora Singapore to the test!

Fash-Review: Pencil Eyeliners from Sephora Singapore

Let’s start with these pencil eyeliners!

Fash-Review: Pencil Eyeliners from Sephora Singapore

Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in M Green Blk 02 - I love how smooth this pencil eye liner glides and the colour is intense. You don’t need to draw your eyes twice! I find it very easy to blend all over my eye lids for an overall colour. Surprisingly, I find this shade very wearable. Best of all, it is long-lasting without having to use a primer. RATING: 7 / 10

tarte Skinny SmolderEYES™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Moonstone Brown - This is one of my favourites! The colour is rich and simply gorgeous for my skin tone. I love how easy it is to apply this  eye liner – it is the smoothest of all the pencil eye liners. You can use the other end to soften your eye liner. I had to use a primer beforehand as the first time I used it, I ended up with smudges around the bottom lash line. Otherwise, this is my favourite – hands down!

Lancome Khôl Hypnôse Waterproof in 01 Noir / 02 Brun - This long-lasting Khôl Hypnôse Waterproof is water resistant, which is great. I didn’t suffer any smudges at all. It wasn’t as precise as I had to redraw my lash line a few times. I love its intense colour and creamy texture which are great to create smokey eyes.

SEPHORA Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof in 01 Black Lace / 09 Girls Night Out Gold – Alright, I broke the tip of 01 Black Lace almost immediately. Talk about first impressions! However, I love the face that it is long lasting and waterproof. For its price-point, this is an affordable eye liner that does its job. There are so many other colours that you can experiment  with. Unfortunately, gold eye liners just don’t work for my skin tone.

2014 Summer Fashion & Beauty Essentials

Summer is HERE! As the temperature rises, bring out your bikinis, sunblock and sunglasses – because things are beginning to heat up in Singapore. What do you need? We love our sun dresses and bikinis but don’t forget your beauty needs (who wants dark spots and pigmentation problems?!). Here are my 2014 summer fashion and beauty essentials to stay cool and chic:

Agent Provocateur Bikinis

It’s time to bring sexy back with Agent Provocateur bikinis. I instantly fell in love with the Mazzy Bikini & Lexxi Bikini. Can you blame me?

Topshop Summer 2014

Packing for your summer holiday? Don’t forget the Topshop Tropical Print Jumpsuit by Boutique (£120.00) and Topshop Straw Circle Brim Floppy Hat (£28.00). Simply irresistible!

Shiseido UV Protective Foundations

These Shiseido UV Protective Foundations in Liquid, Compact & Stick are water-proof and sweat-proof and promise to last all day! Tried and tested, this is my favourite go-to foundations for this sweltering summer.

2014 Summer Essentials - Sunblock

The key is never leave home without your sunblock – whether it’s summer or not. I’m completely sold with the new Bioderma Photoderm MAX Dry Touch SPF 50+ UVA 36 (S$44.90), Bioderma Photoderm SPOT SPF 50+ UVA 38 (S$44.50) and Lancome UV Expert Ultimate XL UV Protection BB Complete SPF50+++ (S$80).

SK-II Whitening Power Spots Specialist and Whitening Spots Care and Brighten Day Cream

Before applying your sunblock and makeup, we need to fight our underlying problems – melanin production before our dark spots appear! Add this to your skincare routine: SK-II Whitening Power Spots Specialist (S$176 – 30ml, S$258 – 50ml, S$339 – 75ml ) and SK-II Whitening Spots Care & Brighten Day Cream (S$167).

Brow Threading 101 with Browhaus

How do your tame your wild brows? Well, I like my Classic Threading with Singapore’s Brow Salon, Browhaus. Truth to be told, I have been going to Browhaus for years. Why? Because there are plenty of outlets around the city (convenience is key!) and their therapists are well-trained. You’ll need to get your brows threaded every 6 weeks for an awesome price of S$17.00 per session. Of course, you get a better deal if you buy a package of 10 sessions. If you’re a Brow Threading virgin, this is what you MUST KNOW before booking your appointment at Browhaus:

  • Always communicate with your therapist about what you want – if you want to maintain your natural shape, create a sharper arch or thin your brows. Sometimes, your therapists may have suggestions on what to do with your brows. Ultimately, they are YOUR brows, you are responsible for the final look with the help of your therapist.
  • Ask for ICE-CREAM or cooling lotion to be applied on your brows after your session. Trust me, you will love how fast your post-threading redness will disappear.
  • Wait at least 2 hours before applying any makeup or moisturizer over your brows to avoid bacteria infection. So, if keep your brow pencil in your purse. Patience is key.
  • Book your next Brow Threading appointment after your first! It’s important to stay on top of your brow grooming. It’s a great habit to make your next appointment immediately so you don’t forget!

Browhaus The Cathay

Look for Alice, my therapist at The Cathay outlet (2 Handy Road, #02-10, The Cathay Singapore 229233 Tel: +65 6737 0335) for the ultimate brow threading experience!

Brow Threading at Browhaus Singapore

What happens during Brow Threading?

  • Firstly, your therapist will thread your brows into shape with your eyes closed.
  • Next, she will ask you to assist in pulling your skin tight with both your hands – the tighter your skin, the less pain you will experience.
  • Finally, she will tweeze the random hairs that couldn’t be threaded and also trim your eyebrows with a pair of scissors.

Brow Threading at Browhaus Singapore

Ta-dah! See how my unruly brows were tamed in just 10-minutes.

A close-up on my post-threading brows. All I need is a brow pencil to fill up the gaps for defined brows! Thanks Browhaus!

SK-II Beauty in Wonderland: Exclusive Chat with SK-II Ambassador Cate Blanchett

Last month, I had the golden opportunity to join global online influencers at the two-day SK-II Beauty in Wonderland event for the ultimate SK-II experience. It was lovely meeting famous online bloggers/vloggers such as as Jenn Im (Clothes Encounter), Willabelle Ong (Pale Division), Rae (The Raeviewer), Asahi Sasaki (@sasakiasahi) Pupe (Pupe So Sweet), Grace Tan (Working With Grace), just to name a few. On Day #1, we had an early morning exclusive online chat with the one and only, SK-II ambassador and award-winning actress, Cate Blanchett. What’s her secret to her flawless, ageless skin? Let’s find out.

Exclusive Chat with SK-II Ambassador Cate Blanchett

Hello Cate!

How long have you been using SK-II? How did you discover the brand?
I discovered SK=II 11 years ago when I was 31. MY friends introduced me to the whitening range after their travels to Japan and I was confident by their recommendation. Because it worked, I stuck with it. My skin is  better now than 11 years ago.

What’s your skincare secret?
Keep my skin spot-free with the SK-II Whitening Source Derm Revival Mask. Keep my SK-II Signs Eye Mask in the freezer to reduce swelling and better infusion for the eyes. Keep my SK-II Facial Treatment Essence in a spray bottle – it’s great to spray on top of your makeup after a long night. My skincare routine includes the SK-II Luxury Pitera or LXP range. When traveling, use SK-II Skin Rebooster.

What’s your makeup secret?
I use the SK-II Facial Treatment Cream Foundation because it is infused with Pitera. I usually do my makeup in the car. I don’t like to wear too much makeup. I think it is important for women to have confidence in their skin.

What SK-II product you can’t live without?
The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence because you can use it in many ways. It is the vitamin drink for my skin. If I could drink it, I would. I’m using the FTE from the LXP range as it has the most concentrated amount of Pitera.

Best thing about being an SK-II user.
It is a real gift to spend less time thinking about how I look. There is no need to panic about ageing especially in your late 20s. Be in control of change and not be self-obsessed.

Fash-Review: diptyque L’Art du Soin Skincare Collection

The legendary French perfumer and luxury candle maker, diptyque Paris will be launching their first skincare collection, L’Art du Soin in June in Singapore. I attended the bloggers preview at the Ritz-Carlton Singapore to try the new 5-piece skincare collection. Inspired by traditional cosmetic methods, L’Art du Soin adopts the “slow infusion” method which includes the gentle distillation of flowers, leaves or seeds that conserves all their qualities plus the usage of natural wax with soft, protective properties for radiant, healthy skin. diptyque uses their strength in natural fragrances and their extraction in producing amazing textures that melt on your fingers, transforming powders into airy foam and turning oil into lotion.

diptyque L'Art du Soin Skincare Collection

Infused Facial Water
A substitute for water, the Infused Facial Water is full of vitamins, minerals and moisturising agents. Made from 84% hydrolate of Damask rose, Nasturtium Extract and a blend of nine traditional plants and flowers, the Infused Facial Water is fresh and absorbent, toning and restoring as well as moisturizing. It should be applied before cream for ultimate moisturisation.

Radiance Boosting Powder
Inspired by Japanese rituals, the Radiance Boosting Powder transforms into a light, airy foam within contact with water that gently cleanses skin with its white clay infused with rose petal, jasmine and sweet orange blossom powders. It has an invigorating scent of verbena and neroli. A quick perk-me-up for your skin.

Nourishing Cleansing Balm
This is one of my favourite products from the range: The Nourishing Cleansing Balm for the face is a white balm made from wax, scented with geranium and roses – that transforms into a fine oil between your fingers, then into a milky emulsion upon contact with water to cleanse your makeup, dirt and oil from your face. Best of all, it leaves your skin silky, velvety soft. It is made of sweet almond oil blended with three essential waxes: refreshing ylang-ylang, softening mimosa and astringent geranium, and can be used as a mask.

Multi-Use Exfoliating Clay
Enriched with marble powder, the Multi-Use Exfoliating Clay makes skin pure and light with its super fine kaolin, softening rice and oat powders. This exfoliant can also be used as a mask, then rinsed off with a towel soaked in warm water. Here’s a tip: Add a couple of drops of Infused Facial Water to the mask for double freshness and invigorating action!

Protective Moisturizing Lotion
This versatile lotion can be used on its own, before another cream or even on top of your foundation. You’ll love the intense moisturizing action as well as SPF15 for sun protection. A combination of refreshing Damask rose hydrolate infused with extracts of white lily and calendula, which moisturise, calm and soften, and grape extract which brightens the complexion and acts on pigmentation. It blends the scent of orange blossom with the tangy freshness of Petitgrain Paraguay.

Fash-Review: I also received a mini set of the L’Art du Soin to try during my recent weekend getaway to Penang (since its miniature size is perfect for traveling!). Essentially, this is a basic 5-piece skincare collection. If you are a fan of diptyque, you will appreciate the benefits of its natural, traditional skincare products. For me, I’ll need to supplement this skincare ritual with serums to target my problem areas such as dark spots, wrinkles and etc. I like this skincare range because of its beautiful scent and amazing texture, but I’m certainly not crazy about it. It’s good to try during my weekend holiday but at some point, I need science to fix my problem areas.

diptyque L’Art du Soin will be available from June 2014 at Escentials Paragon #03-02/05 (Tel: 6737 2478) and Escentials Tangs Orchard L1 (Tel: 6734 2122).

diptyque L'Art du Soin Skincare Collection

How to use the Radiance Boosting Powder for the Face: Moisten hands and face with warm water. Place one dose (approximately a half-teaspoon) in cupped palm and work the powder into a creamy lather with the ball. Gently massage face with small, circular movements, avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water or soak a washcloth in warm water and gently wipe. INTERESTING!

Scroll down to read what my thoughts are on these new makeup removers:

L'Oreal Paris Sublime Makeup Remover

Price List:

Skin Perfection 3-in-1 Purifying Micellar Solution (200ml) $17.90
Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil (150ml) $19.90

L’Oréal Paris Sublime Makeup Removers

My personal favourite: Skin Perfection 3-in-1 Purifying Micellar Solution (200ml) because I like how it aims to remove face, eye and lips makeup instantly and it is perfect for my sensitive skin. The 3-in-1 solution helps dissolves makeup, unclog pores and removes impurities as well as tones and soothes skin. The micellar particles is like a purifying magnet to attract oil and impurities – ultimately, lift them off the skin surface in one easy sweep! I love how my skin feels soft and moisturised even after cleansing. Most importantly, it’s hypo-allergenic. and very gentle on my skin. I’m wearing Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 551 Aventure and see how quickly it removes my lip makeup!

How to Use:
Apply using a cotton wool pad onto dry skin. Hold over the lashes, lids and lips for a few seconds then gently sweep away. No need to rinse or rub. Use in the morning and evening.

The Sublime Fresh Deep Pure Foaming Water (150ml) is suitable for normal to mixed skin (which is works great on my skin as well).  The water transform into air-light foam that deeply purge pores of impurities with millions of active purifying bubbles. Its purifying active ingredient, Salicylic Acid, removes dead cells and impurities with its microexfoliation action. I love how fresh and invigorated my skin feels after cleansing!

How to Use:
Pump two times and massage the mousse onto damp skin. Rinse well with warm water. Use in the morning and evening.

Finally, the Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil (150ml) is suitable for normal to combination skin. There is no photo because this isn’t suitable for my skin type. WHY? Typically, I’m not a fan of oil-based makeup removers unless I’m wearing waterproof makeup. It’s a personal preference, but it doesn’t mean this makeup remover doesn’t work for you. Formulated with 90% pure oil, this cleansing oil can dissolve makeup including waterproof and long-wearing makeup 3 times faster than regular cleansing milk. Best of all, you don’t get that greasy finish after usage.

How to Use:
With your fingertips, apply 2-3 drops onto dry skin, massaging over the lashes, lids and lips. Then, rinse well with warm water. Use in the morning and evening.

Fash-Review: Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food Skincare Range

If you can nourish your skin with superfood, you can just imagine the amazing results – supple, nourished and glowing skin. Who doesn’t want that? The new Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food skincare range uses superfood type ingredients such as Super-Omega Complex 3, 6, and 9 oils (prevents skin sagging, soothes inflammation, hydrating, soothes eczema, accelerates repair of damage) , Marula Oil (anti-ageing, hydrating and moisturising), Vitamins A (reduces skin roughness, prevents wrinkles, skin rejuvenating agent), B5 (plumps skin), C  (reduces redness plus pigmentation, instant brighteners and stimulates collagen synthesis)and E (anti-aging, rich moisturising agent) combined with the PhytoCell™ Alp Rose stem cells to provide complete nutrition for the skin.

What are PhytoCell™ Alp Rose stem cells? The Alp Rose stem cells are known to live more than 100 years and highly resistant to harsh environmental factors – which are able to preserve the function of human stem cells. Hence, it helps increase the vitality and stimulate the human skin’s own stem cells to regenerate at a faster rate. Ultimately, it has been clinically proven to increase moisture levels in skin by 39%.

I had the chance to try the Rodial STEMCELL Discovery Kit for a couple of weeks before writing this review. Scroll down to read about my thoughts on this new skincare range:

Why not try before you buy? The Rodial STEMCELL Discovery Kit is available for sale at $79 online at www.rodial.com.sg or at selected Guardian outlets: The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands #B2-49 , Paragon #B1-20/24 and Ngee Ann City #B1-15-23 (Guardian Plus).

Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food Skincare Range

The Rodial STEMCELL discovery kit includes the following items:

1 x STEMCELL Super-Food Cleanser (50ml)
1 x STEMCELL Super Food Facial Oil (10ml)
1 x STEMCELL Super Food Day Cream SPF15 (20ml)
1 x STEMCELL Super Food Glam Balm Multi (10ml)

Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food Skincare Range

The STEMCELL Super-Food Cleanser (200ml, $59) is a dual-action cleansing cream designed with advanced stem cell technology. Made from a combination of Rose Hip Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Rose Wax and Cocoa Butter work to gently melt away daily dirt and grime while gently feeding nutrients into the skin for a hydrated, nourished complexion.I personally like it because I have dry and dehydrated skin. This cleanser doesn’t strip away the natural oils on my face and my skin feels soft and supple after cleansing. However, this cleanser may not be suitable for those with oily skin as the texture is quite creamy and thick. This works best if you are traveling to cold countries!

Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food Skincare Range

The cleanser also comes with a 100% cotton muslin cloth to help exfoliate your skin to reveal a radiant glow.

Rodial STEMCELL Super-Food Skincare Range

Next, the STEMCELL Super Food Facial Oil (30ml, $129) is a unique facial oil with a concentrated blend of active ingredients such as anti-oxidants and Vitamins A, B5, C and E to nourish and hydrate skin. The Phytocell Alp Rose protects skin against environmental stress and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Personally, I find this too oily for the face – but you will need to massage it into your skin for maximum absorption before applying the day cream. It is the perfect solution for dry, wrinkled skin. This would be great if you are in an air-conditioned or dry environment all day.
