Look Book: Sunsilk Style Collection

Ta-dah! Yours truly received a pink goodie bag from the good people at Sunsilk.

This is the Straight & Sleek shampoo and conditioner from the Sunsilk Style Collection.

Travel-size packaging, I like! This consists the entire Sunsilk range for me to try.

Am I Smooth & Manageable? Maybe you’ve to wax me up. Haha, I wonder why I smile like that.

Ugh. This is one heavy goodie bag! X-Wen, OUT.

Polka dot tee from Esprit. Grey denim vest from MNG. Snake necklace from Diva. Jeans from Levis.

Sneak Peek: Jonathan Saunders for Target

Get ready for October 5th! Target’s new collaboration with British designer, Jonathan Saunders presents a collection of offbeat, and fashion-forward designs that will blow your closet to pieces! Okay, I’m being dramatic. I simply love the mix of funky prints and color-blocks. Even the silhouette is very chic and alluring. Why is there no Target in Singapore? Sigh. This country has too many Giordano and Esprit shops. We need fashion diversity!! Hello!!

Love the blue tone skirt!! And, leather ankle-boots. Yummy.

Ooh, multi-color print jacket. I like. And, high-waisted tulip skirt. Sweet.

Color blocks. Rocks.

Designer Spotlight: Yumumu by Yilin Lu

I like saying this, “yu, mu, mu” - it means ‘Rain’, ‘Wood’, ‘Wood’. It sounds a little like secret murmurs or baby talk. Yumumu is new label by Yilin Lu, a graduate from Slade School of Fine Art in 2004. Her passion for ‘moulding, draping and sculpting garments that bring alive the peculiarities of the wearer, drawing her inspiration not from fleeting trends but shifting ideas that are often overlooked’ (culturepush, 2008).

“Fashion designs are usually first conceived flat on paper. My Paperdoll collection strives to retain that flatness. I’ve tried to avoid distender of any kind - pleats, gathers, etc. - to emphasize the intrinsic flatness of fabric, so much so that they have come to resemble the flatpack lifestyle we are familiar with. The simple form is reminiscent of the shift dresses of the 60’s. I am fascinated by how the flat garment radically transforms as it falls against the contours of the human body.”

YAK PAK Megu: Birthday Gift #1

So, it’s my birthday month and Bubster said I can pick my presentsss, haha. I’m not a spoiled lil’ girlfriend - wait a minute, I’m kinda spoiled but I am reasonable. At least I would like to think so. I don’t think boyfriends should spend ‘too’ lavishly on a girlfriend unless he’s earning mega bucks or has a big trust fund. My Bubster is earning a decent income but I don’t believe in him buying me anything more than say, $1K.

Recently, a friend got his girlfriend a Prada handbag for her birthday (and he’s a full-time university student!)To me, that’s a holiday for two - it’s too much for me, but I think it’s really awesome for him to do so. I think you should set a healthy ratio of the price of the gift against your income. Subjective? How much do you think boyfriends/girlfriends should spend on their partners?

I picked my awesome non-branded bag for my birthday - haha, a YAK PAK Megu handbag (retailed at SGD$59.90) from Spin The Bottle. Bubster and I love this multi-label shop - firstly, it’s a breath of fresh air from the local fashion scene. They bring in cool brands like The Lifetime Collective, Fortune Denim, GAMA-GO and etc. We bought a few T-shirts and a GAMA-GO bag from them over the past year.

Jenny Humphrey carried this in an episode of Gossip Girl. Avril Lavigne has been seen with one with skulls print. I just found out today that YAK PAK handbags come with lifetime warranty for any manufacturing defects. I got the YAK PAK Megu’s Grey Ivy Forest. I spent a fair bit of time deliberating between this one, Grey Bamboo, Black Swallows and Pills.

YAK PAK Megu handbags are made of soft cotton twill with satin interior. I was looking for a casual, weekend mid-size handbag and this is cute, even though it’s not exactly cheap. It’s also their best-selling purse range. I love the size of the bag, and it’s versatility. It also comes with a cute keychain in the built-in pockets. Hee. That’s yours truly’s birthday gift #1. It may not be Prada but it’s pretty fabulous!

Love Brigade Fall 2008: Love, Kurt

Love Brigade is this hip, cool Brooklyn label that just launched their Fall collection called, “Love, Kurt”. A tribute to the amazing Kurt Cobain. The muted hues of maroon, black, grey and brown for the Fall 2008 line is sleek yet chic which I absolutely love. I like the innovative use of buttons and strips of fabric to create a unique silhouette for the body. Check out the fabulous look book for both men and women by Love Brigade:

I Heart Kidrobot by Tarina Tarantino

It’s no secret that I’m quite a fan of Kawaii stuff. I like my Tofu-Oyako, Tokidoki, Devilrobots and yeah, Kidrobot. And, I like Tarina Tarantino’s designs as well. How can I not be excited with the jewelry collaboration between Kidrobot and designer Tarina Tarantino? The jewelry line will debut on my eh-hem, birthday on 30th July and prices will range from USD$65 to USD$975 *ouch*

This new collection includes “necklaces, bracelets, earrings, charms, rings, and wallet chains that all feature a Kidrobot character, plus Tarantino’s signature Swarovski-crystal embellishments, Lucite beads, pearls, silk ribbons, and cast-metal pendants”. Are you lovin’ these drop earrings with angry-looking bunnies smoking cigarettes and sticking out their tongues?

First Look: Richard Chai for Target

First, Rogan. Now, Richard Chai. Target is keeping the money rolling in with fancy collaborations. What can I say? I crave for things like that. Chai’s collection with Target will be launched in August and NYLON magazine has got the first look. Nothing ground-breaking - but affordable, chic everyday looks. Now I wish there’s a Target in Singapore.

Taste Like Fruit

I was amazed when I saw this new b+ab SS08 ads at Style Bubble. These fabulous fruity tutty ads are the brainchild of Japanese pop artist, Nagi Noda. I’ve never been or seen b+ab’s collection in Hong Kong, but maybe I’ll go check them out in July. If you’ve never heard of them (like me), it’s a “Hong Kong fashion brand label launched in 1995 offering high-end ladies’ fashion quality with a mass market approach (that) is mainly inspired by Japanese young women’s chic and trendy styles, provides a variety of fashionable outfits”. You get the picture. Check out the ads & backstage photos:
