The 2008’s 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

It’s time to honour the best of the TV industry in America - the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Fashionistas will keep their eyes peel on screen - who’s the best dressed and who’s going to fire their stylist. Obviously, I haven’t had a chance to watch the show YET - but I’ll catch the encore tonight on TV. This year, we have a glorious treat of sparkly gowns, shorter hemlines, usual black numbers, bright and bold colored-frocks. Let’s see which one caught Fash-E’s anime eyes:

Weeds is one of my current favourite TV shows. I’m not a Roberto Cavalli fan but Mary-Louise Parker rocks this turquoise Roberto Cavalli gown with delicate jewel-linings. This really shows off her body and I want her body at her age, dammit.

Many celebrities are wearing Reem Acra at this year’s Emmys. However, the best-dressed in Reem Acra goes to Olivia Wilde. Her “delicate chiffon and satin gown with beaded cap sleeves” is young, and ethereal - this is definitely a winner.

Rachel Zoe knows how to make her clients look a million bucks. Because Debra Messing sure does! She looks absolutely stunning in this black ruffle Monique Lhuillier with vintage earrings.

Christina Applegate in a “light blue one shouldered jacquard Reem Acra frock”. Simply dramatic! She pairs it up with purple gemstone earrings that adds a royal, glamorous touch to the whole look. Talk about making an entrance.

Heidi Klum is not my ultimate fave, but she definitely shines in this ” beaded gray Armani Prive dress with asymmetrical tier detailing”. The huge butterfly earrings definitely spice up the entire look. This woman never looked shabby, hurr.

Eva Longoria never looks any less glamourous. She stuns the crowd in this “Marchesa dress adorned with an oversized bow at the bodice”. Critics said it’s too matchy - but I think you don’t have to wow the crowd with bold colours. I like it subtle.

Julia-Louis Dreyfus adds a little tangerine to the party with her cut-out Narciso Rodriguez gown. However, I’m not a fan of that ‘hair’. Bravo to the winners! Be sure to catch the encore tonight.

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: AgResearch

AgResearch has been making the headlines for setting a model on fire and stabbing a mannequin. I’m not kidding. If you’re wondering who is AgResearch? This isn’t a fashion house. In fact, it’s a pastoral sector R&D organization - yes, bioscience and all the jazz. And, the AgResearch scientists were given the honour to “reveal some of the world-first fabrics they have invented which will feature in their runway show on Friday (September 19th)”. These ground-breaking fabrics are stab- and flame-resistant! I mean, this is the perfect combination of science and fashion. Also, I’m quite amazed by the runway show - check it out:

Wear this so crazy people can’t stab you.

What did I say? The fabrics look good right?

I. Am. Terminator.

Made from wool, mostly. Looks comfy, hurr?

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: Coco PR Streetwear

Just a quick recap on Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2008: Fashion PR company Coco PR showcased four of their street labels such as Doosh, Fourfontaine, Crowded Elevator and Moneyshot during the Coco PR Streetwear show. This is definitely not high-end so it may seem odd that these mini collections actually qualify for the runway. However, it does give you an idea of some hot streetwear from down under - yo!

Doosh

Doosh opens the show with a range of womenswear that features “silver leggings, casual dresses, lots of denim and easy to wear separates”. The menswear “was much stronger, with check shirts, rolled hems jeans and sweaters worn in a similar way to The OC’s Seth Cohen” - I like.

Fourfontaine

Here we have, the more relax, casual collection. Fourfontaine showcased cute dresses, printed tees, preppy socks and etc. Nothing to shout about but I like the mix of colors and minimal layering.

Crowded Elevator

Hello hippie headbands. Crowded Elevator flashes its “printed tees on acid - diamonds, psychedelic scissors and feathers” and also interesting prints. Definitely street chic, in my opinion.

Moneyshot

I see plaid, funky prints, bright colours and hoodies. It seems like colorful sunnies are not going away anytime soon. Moneyshot is for the bold, stylish man that wants to be seen.

Black Market Art @House, Dempsey

I hate to say this but weekends are too short! It’s freakin’ Sunday night already? Man. Anyway, I didn’t hit the books today since I’ve been a good girl yesterday (yup, I found a study buddy in Jan). So, Bubster and I made our way down to House at 8D Dempsey Road to check out the Black Market Art, “The Greatest Flea Market in the World” (I didn’t say that). I don’t normally check out flea markets - because I’m not really a ‘thrifting’ kinda person and I usually end up empty handed. Black Market Art is not really a ‘flea’ market - as you have brands like Bianca, Style Damsel, Granny’s Day Out, Glamourpuss, Epitome and etc.

Welcome to Black Market Art.

Food. Flea market better come with good food.

Cute animal prints.

Art pieces up for auction - SOLD!

I love these art pieces. The style is whimsical, and original don’t you think?

Haha, I love the cages. Pity the weather was kinda muggy.

Aww. Isn’t this cute? Kids playing - what a sight.

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: Annah Stretton

Asian culture is the new Black. In Annah Stretton’s collection called Compliments 4 fish, her design and styling refers to “Asian culture and the art of Irezumi (full body tattoo)”. Maybe I’ve been influenced by Miami Ink - I never look at tattoos the same way again. In fact, I’m starting to appreciate body art and now, it has made its transition to modern-day fashion.

Bright colors. Knits. Layers. Mini dresses. Don’t you love the full body tattoo look?

The models look almost robotic-like. I’m Bionic Woman #1456.

This prolly my favourite. The halter neck dress with two koi fishes on the side.

We see alot of ruffles. Tattoos look very feminine. Where can I find this hosiery?

I don’t fancy army green. So I wouldn’t say these two blend with the rest.

Whoops! A model took a tumble at yesterday’s show. Damn heels!

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: Big, Bold & Edgy

The Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2008 continues. I’ve to say some of the designs are very innovative and different from what you’ll see from the big boys of New York and London. I always enjoy exploring new labels and designers from the youngest country in the world, New Zealand since I’ll be flying there again for Christmas! Let’s see what Day Three and Four have in-store for us:

Michael Pattison

Michael Pattison plays with the illusion of stripes, and goth-like style. I mean, just check out the hair - very Sun Goku from Dragon Ball Z! In my opinion, very edgy and sexy. I like!

Michael Pattison

Nyne

Nyne, a Hamilton-based label (where my boy is from!) debut their collection called Bring The Rain. Their style focuses on the “minimalist, deconstructed aesthetic” and also hailed as the local Helmut Lang. They say this collection is inspired by Transformers - which you can tell from the robotic-like structure of the clothing. Interesting.

Tav

Tav is pretty unique in its own little way. The construction of the collection is well-thought out. I like how the identity of the label is carried throughout the collection and you can easily tell which clothing is from Tav. And, the prints are pretty unique!

Yvonne Bennetti

Yvonne Bennetti is famous for her sexy frocks. And, I’ve to agree. She knows the woman’s body and curves. I like the whole 70s-style, very ‘Almost Famous‘ inspiration. Good to know we can dress like Penny Lane!

Lonely Hearts Club

They called this collection by Lonely Hearts Club, “motocross chic”. I don’t know muc about motocross but I do know young, funky and flirty! This collection is feminine and definitely for the young ones!

Zambesi

Zambesi has been around since 1979. Their label stood strongly to “its signature roots of black androgynous tailoring”. I like the combination of mustard and black for fall/winter. Nice. I’m making notes for my December trip.

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: The Underdogs

Hail the fashion underdogs! I didn’t blog about New York Fashion Week or London Fashion Week because everyone is blogging about it! You don’t need another blog telling you how amazing Marc Jacobs‘ collection is. Right now, I’m turning everyone’s attention to Air New Zealand Fashion Week, NZ’s most glamorous event. It’s not as fashion-forward, or innovative as the big boys of fashion week - but you might find some gems hidden down under. Here are my favourites so far from Day One and Day Two:

Alexander Owen

Deborah Sweeney

Trelise Cooper

Twenty Seven Names

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008 Begins: World

All the talk about New York and London. Why isn’t there any buzz about fashion from down under? Well, you might as well call me a Kiwi wannabe - since the Kiwi I am living with has been feeding me Vegemite and Burger Rings. Don’t forget my favourite Feijoa juice from Charlie’s! Why can’t they import Feijoa juice to Singapore *tsk*tsk* Anyway, the Air NZ Fashion Week began with bang as World presented a theatrical runway show that definitely blew my socks off. We usually don’t expect ‘crazy’ stuff from Kiwis but they proved us wrong. I love the Asian-inspired (I would like to think so) sculptural hair and the whimsical designs, and circus-like colours. Get your sunglasses ready:

Furry skirt! Orange sash belt! I don’t know why, but I love them.

Dark and sparkly. Black basics are going glam. What do you think?

I sense a BOW obsession here. Kinda like the idea of a bow bracelet.

The men are not spared from the BOWS! Red gloves? That’s kinky.

I love the pills stuck on the collar. And, are the boys carrying lady’s handbag?
