There is only one good reason to watch the London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony: The reunion of the Spice Girls. Well, one of the reasons – but a bloody good one. After 16 days of world-class sporting action, it’s time to draw the curtains and countdown to Rio 2016. I can’t believe the games is finally over. The closing ceremony has been an amazing mash-up of British music, pop-culture and all things random (to be honest, in a good way). Let’s look at the top 8 fashionable moments (yes, this is a fashion blog afterall!) from the biggest party of the night:
#1: The Spice Girls – hellooooooooo?
I’ve to say, the Spice Girls all look fabulous and fit!
Victoria Beckham (a.k.a. Posh Spice) seduced us in this custom-made black dress with a dramatic fish tail by Giles Deacon.
Emma Bunton (a.k.a. Baby Spice) in a uber-cute pink dress by Maggie Cooke and Mel C (a.k.a. Sporty Spice) in a sporty jumpsuit with flare pants.
Geri Halliwell (a.k.a. Ginger Spice) is smokin’ hot in an ingenious reinvention of her Union Jack dress by Suzanne Neville and Mel B (a.k.a. Scary Spice) in a glittery gold Zuhair Murad catsuit (which she didn’t want to take off until the next morning!).
#2: British Supermodels Strutted Down in British Designers’ Creations
TOTALLY RANDOM. I guess it’s part of the celebration of British pop culture. British supermodels such as Kate Moss (Alexander McQueen), Naomi Campbell (Alexander McQueen), Georgia May Jagger (Victoria Beckham), Lily Cole (Erdem), Jourdan Dunn (Jonathan Saunders & Stephen Jones), Stella Tennant (Christopher Kane), Karen Elson (Burberry), Lily Donaldson (Vivienne Westwood) and David Gandy (Paul Smith) strutted down the stadium in British designers’ creations to David Bowie‘s “Fashion”. I was secretly thrilled to see fashion taking the stage – despite the randomness.
#3: Duchess of Cambridge in Whistles
What is Kate Middleton wearing? Well, she recycled her last season’s Whistles “Bella” dress which she wore the the Jubilee concert. She’s definitely a people’s Princess, in my opinion. Now, everyone can dress like a Princess – isn’t that awesome?
#4: Jessie J in Vivienne Westwood
#Jessie J rocked the stadium in this embellished nude couture body suit by Vivienne Westwood. This girl just love to flaunt her body!
#5: Annie Lennox in Goth Wonderland
For one second, I thought I was watching a Tim Burton production. Annie Lennox burst out singing, “Little Bird” from a pirate ship in what seems like a post-apocalyptic Elizabethan costume. SO COOL.
#6: Russell Brand as Willy Wonka? So apt.
Russell Brand as Willy Wonka didn’t seem like a bad idea afterall. The striped pants and top hat… this strange man is born to dress funny. How entertaining!
#7: Muse’s front man, Matt Bellamy’s Sparkly Suit
I don’t know what is he wearing but I can’t take my eyes off Muse‘s front man, Matt Bellamy‘s sparkly suit with a Union Jack t-shirt. Once again, have you listen to the London 2012 official song, “Survival” by Muse?
#8: Alessandra Ambrosio. Period.
A dash of salt. A sprinkle of sugar. Wait, how about a Victoria’s Secret angel? After the handover of the torch to Rio 2016, supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio came out to party with the rest of the Brazillians. Can’t wait till Rio 2016!!! It’s going to be a big party.
