Paris Shanghai, A Fantasy: Chanel Pre-Fall 2010

Inspired by the imagined Coco Chanel’s wanderlust to China, Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 collection walked down the runway against a stunning backdrop of the Huangpu river and Shanghai’s sparkling skyline. Staying true to Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld presented a collection of “sharp tweeds in white and evergreen, edged in black; pushing the office girl into the night, he tossed slim little jackets over leather leggings”. The Asian elements came across strongly throughout the collection with the details, embellishments, accessories and also the qipao inspired pieces. Beautiful… Beautiful… I can’t describe it better. It would be literally a dream for moi to attend a Chanel runway show. I truly hope that ‘one day’ would come.

Domo Arigatou, Miss Roboto.

Here’s a piece of good news: Singapore-label, hansel will be opening their first-ever standalone boutique at Stamford House on 2nd October 2009. Rejoice! The recession is ‘almost’ over! The new store will be launched together with hansel’s AW2009 ROBOT GIRL! collection. Watch out for ROBOT GIRL as she “jets around the world wowing her audiences in a sensational
wardrobe of Black, Navy and Grey with accents of Mustard Yellow and White”. The collection made of a mixture of wool knits/twills, silk crepes, poly crinkled chiffons, translucent poly grid voile and stretch denim. Here’s a preview of the spunky new collection that you don’t wanna miss:

Holly Golightly! Lily Allen for Chanel Fall 2009

I adore Audrey Hepburn. And, I’ve seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s like 10,000 times. It has never crossed my mind that it would be “channel-ed” into Chanel’s Handbags Fall 2009 ad campaign featuring British singer, Lily Allen. Has Karl Lagerfeld lost his mind? Well, that’s what I thought when I first read about her involvement in the new campaign. I’ve to say – the campaign is not looking too bad afterall. Tell me what you think:

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Lily Allen. I love her songs.

Every girl needs a tiara. Where’s mine?

I love this one – it makes this potty mouth looks classy!

AFF09: Watch Gareth Pugh Autumn/Winter 2009

AFF09: Gareth Pugh Autumn/Winter 2009 from X-Wen on Vimeo.

There is nothing more priceless than watching Gareth Pugh’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection in motion. I can’t stop watching this over and over again. Don’t mind the shaky arms, it’s quite tiring you know. Enjoy.

AFF09: Gareth Pugh Autumn/Winter 2009

I’m incredibly wired up (in a good way) about the Gareth Pugh Autumn/Winter 2009 runway show at the Audi Fashion Festival 2009 on Thursday, 7 May. Thanks a million to Mastercard for the special invitation. This is not just a fashion show, but a fashion EVENT. The models will walk down the runway in Gareth Pugh’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection for the first time ever. Previously, this collection was presented via an impressionistic-like video featuring model Natasa Vojnovic - which we also had the chance to see before the runway show. I thought it was executed brilliantly with a metallic-ambient soundtrack.

You’ve seen the pictures. Gareth Pugh loves his dark, gothic hues such as black, grey and metallic pewter. I was blown away by the extraordinary texture created with gazillion pinheads carpeted over the clothing. You’ve to see the clothing in movement on the runway (I’ll upload the runway video very soon). According to Style.com, the show uses “Matthew Stone’s soundtrack, which used a piece of the Krzysztof Penderecki music from The Shining, compounded the mines-of-Mordor mood”.

They don’t call Gareth Pugh, “Prince of Darkness” for nothing. His works have shown the creative length which our young designers should explore beyond their comfort zone while being true to their identity. Inspiring? Totally. I am completely psyched and I think it is awesome his collection has been brought to the little red dot – because we need ONE out-of-this-world fashion injection.

DANGER: Watch your fingers.

One of my favourites. The fluid movement of her cape was amazing.

Men, stay away from her – or she’ll prick your heart.

Barb-wired face.

I wonder if those boots come in my size.

Interesting silhouette.

Those shoes! I like.

Beautiful.

I want that jacket.

Ripped jeans. A must-have.

She had a little trouble walking, and looking like a giant furball.

Gareth Pugh taking his bow. I salute you.

LFW 2009: The Highlights

London Fashion Week is back. This year, LFW celebrates 25 years in fashion and also dedicated a day to menswear. Fash-E has so many designers to blog about but here are some which caught my eye: Mary Katrantzou’s debut collection jolted me from my seat with bold, loud prints and architectural shapes. Luella never fail to amaze me with this “cute utilitarianism” collection. Christopher Kane creates an interesting look with stripes on organza. Giles gets a little aggressive with his new collection as he goes back to basic by mixing materials. House of Holland goes graphical with a multi-color parade (not the most impressive, unfortunately). Julien Macdonald brings back the rock chick. Roksanda Ilincic brings out the drama in the shoulders and sleeves. Ready or not, here we go.

Mary Katrantzou: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

NYFW 2009: The Highlights

Eight days. 100 fabulous fashion shows. Thousands of Twitter-thumbs. And, a very slow blogger. I have been looking through the thousands of photos and selecting my very favorite from each collection of some of my favourite designers. This is hard work for me! I cheated, maybe two or three favorites. I’m lovin’ the classy suits by 3.1 Phillip Lim, sexy silhouettes by Alexander Wang, organza madness from Jason Wu, color blocks by Marc by Marc Jacobs, whimsical ‘Nutcracker’ pieces by Erin Featherston, mixture of goodness by Diane von Furstenburg, trendy princess sleeves by Karen Walker, unique curves by Jonathan Saunders and modern subculture reinterpretations by Rag & Bone.

These are Fash-E’s highlights from New York Fashion Week 2009:

3.1 Phillip Lim: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Alexander Wang: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Jason Wu: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Erin Featherston: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Diane von Furstenberg: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Karen Walker: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Jonathan Saunders: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Rag & Bone: Fall 2009 Ready-To-Wear

I need more menswear. LOL. Enjoy your Sunday!
