Fash-Preview: H&M Conscious Exclusive Spring 2014

H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection Spring 2014 makes sustainable fashion more accessible and chic with more sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, recycled polyamide and Tencel®, which is a biodegradable fabric derived from wood pulp. Plus, new materials such as organic leather and silk have also been added to this collection. This unique collection brings a luxurious bohemian feel with flamenco influence with curvy feminine silhouettes and masculine details plus bold embellishments. Hues of romantic whites, cloudy blues and a mix of metallic and rich print are super lust-worthy. I love the accessories from the H&M Conscious Exclusive Spring 2014 that are made from recycled beads and plastics. In collaboration with sustainable fashion and design think tank EVER Manifesto, a new issue of the Ever Manifesto magazine, entitled Ever Conscious, will be distributed in partnership with H&M.

The H&M Conscious Exclusive Spring 2014 collection will be available in stores on April 10th.

Yoga Fashionista: WE’AR Yoga Clothing

I first noticed yogis wearing WE’AR Yoga Clothing at the last Teacher’s Training session. I found out that the label made in Bali. It’s either fate or pure coincidence that I stumbled upon WE’AR clothing store in Waiheke Island, New Zealand yesterday. The designer is actually based in Waiheke Island but her designs are all made from sustainable materials in Bali. I didn’t have enough time to try most of the collection (time isn’t on my plate!) but I’ve managed to buy something from WE’AR to add to my growing yoga wardrobe. Good news, you can shop online for WE’AR and they do ship to Singapore!

Yoga Fashionista: Teeki, Eco-Friendly Yoga Clothing

Yoga has taken over my life over the past week. I’m in the midst of my teacher training and taking a mini-break from blogging. I haven’t really caught up with my emails or checking out the latest in fashion and beauty. BUT, I can share my latest yoga obsession: TEEKI, an active wear line made from recycled plastic bottles and sustainable materials. You’re recycling 25 plastic bottles with just a pair of these hot pants! There are hot shorts and bikinis available as well. The best thing is you can easily transit from your yoga mat and hit the town in these funky pants. I want all of them, dammit.

Eco-Fashion: Monique Péan

You don’t always ‘need’ to look like a hippie to support eco-fashion. Fine jewellery designer and winner of last year’s CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund Monique Péan proves that you can be glamorous while saving Gaia. You may be wondering whether woolly mammoth ivory and buffalo horns are actually eco-friendly (because I did!). Rest assured, all Monique Péan creations are sustainable and eco-friendly made from recycled materials and handmade by indigenous artisans. Believe me, even the gold in her jewellery are recycled. I am intrigued by her unique choice of materials as well as her design sensibility. Her designs are classic with a heavy art-deco influence which I absolutely love. You can shop for her collection at twistonline.com. I wonder if her work will ever make it to this part of the world.

Eco-Fashion: Australia’s Baumbach A/W 2012 Collection

I stumbled across a collection of dreamy photographs online which led to the discovery of Australia’s eco-fashion label, Baumbach. Inspired by “poetry, illustration and all things beautiful”, Baumbach is created by Lauren Brooks with a vision for 100% Australian made and fashion sustainability by using eco-friendly fabrics to the recycled and hand tea stained swing tags. Their latest Autumn/Winter 2012 collection entitled, “Runaway Traveller” explores the carefree, wandering nomad in all of us. Baumbach reimagined what you will pack as you set out for your adventure. Think ripped t-shirts, oversized dresses, organic bamboo and comfortable hoodie to keep you warm. I can easily picture Rumi from Fashion Toast wearing Baumbach, right?

You can visit Baumbach‘s Facebook Page, follow them on Twitter or read their blog here.

Eco-Fashion: MODECO

FASHION, in general, isn’t Mother’s Nature’s best friend. You can’t change how the world dresses and consumes in two seconds. Before you take the plunge, let’s start with baby steps. The idea of eco-fashion has been on my mind. It is good to know that some designers are starting to incorporate sustainable practices in their business such as Gucci, which recently launched an eco-friendly line of shoes. I’ve decided to dedicate every Monday to sustainable fashion labels. Join me on this discovery of recyclable materials, socially responsible production methods as well as steps to reduce our carbon footprint. I don’t expect myself to transform overnight. I don’t claim to be a hero. I wish to help raise awareness and educate my readers be more eco-conscious because every decision you make counts.

This week, let me introduce you to MODECO. I first discovered this brand when I spotted my friend, Mahdhir carrying his MODECO‘s Floor Briefcase. This Japanese brand showcased at this year’s BLUEPRINT and I had the chance to meet the designer as well as touch the bags! Started by Hiroyuki Mizuno in 2008, the creative director gave good condition wastes such as tire tubes, seat belts and wood flooring pieces a new lease of life. These bags are all hand-made individually in Japan – MODECO is definitely chic in my books. You can even shop for MODECO online here. Tell me if you think MODECO is cool or blah.

MODECO Ladybird

From MODECO 2012 collection, the Ladybird is a Doctor’s bag which plays with discarded and unused materials such as old shoes, wooden floor and pigskin.

MODECO Casual Briefcase

Boys, you’re gonna love this Casual Briefcase. With a large inner pocket and two small ones on the outside, this is an alternative choice for the office. Made from discarded genuine leather with flooring matte, this is definitely something you’ve never seen before.

MODECO Naturalista Wood

Ladies, it’s your turn. This collection uses used clothing as well as laminated used flooring. Don’t worry, the Naturalista Wood collection is not as heavy as you think.

The picture of the Seatbelt Boston itself was kinda blah. This picture made the bag much more appealing. This unique bag is waterproof, durable, scratch and stain resistant. I love the casual look of this bag with white zipper accent. Personally, I would carry this.

MODECO Floor Tote

This is the bag that started it all. The “world’s first bag made from waste flooring material” is a classic. I want this Floor Tote!

MODECO Lush

Soft and casual, you’re gonna dig Lush! Made from recycled 100% cotton Japanese-brand towel that has been sewn twice to make it strong and lint free. It is waterproof on the inside and comes in three fun colours: yellow, orange and blue.

MODECO Echo

From the Resort 2012 collection, Echo is a new shopping bag line for the ladies. It comes in four sizes – S, M, L and XL to suit all your shopping needs. Made from old sofa and boot leathers which has been treated before production, Echo is bound to be a hit among the Japanese (and even us!).

Missoni ♥ Havaianas Summer 2012 Collection: The Love Story Continues

Remember last year‘s Missoni ♥ Havaianas collaboration? Well, the love story continues. This Missoni ♥ Havaianas Summer 2012 collection is all about love and care for mother nature. Isn’t that genius and more importantly, responsible?

“For Missoni, the relationship with nature has always been a priority. At the same time, Havaianas is firmly concerned about reducing waste, re-using and recycling of materials. With this collaboration, it’s indeed a perfect match of both our passions: fashion and respect for nature,” said Angela Missoni, Creative Director of Missoni.

Available from end of May 2012 at all Havaianas stores. It’s all about eco-fashion so shop responsibly!
