I Scream for Ben & Jerry’s Chunk Fest!

Yay! It’s time for Ben & Jerry’s Chunk Fest again! This year, the annual event is held at the bigger and brand new Marina Barrage. In my opinion, it’s the perfect spot for an ice-cream event. The weather was hot hot hot yesterday that I could literally drown myself in Ben & Jerry‘s. Ahh, and I wish I brought my kite as well. Here’s why it’s all about peace, love and ice-cream.

Taipei: Modern Toilet Restaurant

Remember my “Something Stinky?” blog post? Well, here’s the real deal. I celebrated my mum’s birthday (yes!) at Modern Toilet restaurant in Ximending, Taipei. We’ve heard and read about it – my family was excited about this place for the fun of it! You’ve to admit that a toilet-themed restaurant is pretty novel – something you’ll only find in Asian countries. Now who says you can’t talk about poop during meal times?

The exterior of Modern Toilet – you can’t miss that big potty!

I love the colourful toilet seat covers and the bathtub table!

As you can see, this place can be really packed! We waited for 15-min.

Bathroom tiled walls and taps. You feel like you’re in a big bathroom.

Sipping my Taiwanese milk tea from a urinal!

Bubster’s meal came with a poop cover! Someone chewed off the tip :P *eww*

My delicious seafood hot pot meal – the chilli was really good. You’ve to pick the right food here – not everything tastes fantastic. Mine was a good choice :D

Last but not least, poopie ice cream! Took a bite before the photo :D

If you’re interested in visiting this place, do check out their website first.

Taiwan: Best Street Food in Taipei and Kaohsiung

This is not a food blog but Taiwan is like a street food haven. I just have to blog about it. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of Taiwanese street food. To sum it all, they are mostly GREASY and SWEET. I probably consumed 100,000 calories every day – my tummy is completely preggers. I need to workout – seriously. It was a good ‘eating’ experience. The food are inventive and interesting – a definite must-try for an authentic Taiwanese experience. I think I ate more than I shopped in Taiwan. Here’s a summary of all the interesting street food I tasted during my trip:

Ah Chung Mee Sua at Ximending, Taipei.

This is rice noodle with intestines – I know, I know. But it’s simply delicious! There are no seats – you will see a big crowd holding bowls of these noodles and slurping away.

Eight Treasures Dessert & Mango Shaved Ice Dessert @ 168 Guangzhou St, Taipei

This is a must-try. I personally love the desserts!

Ice-cream Popiah @ Ximending, Taipei

One of my favourites, I bought this interesting wrap from an illegal hawker. It’s popiah skin with shaved peanut candy, chinese parsley and two scoops of strawberry ice-cream!

Fruits @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei

Yes, you do need some fiber when you travel. I love the honey stuffed tomatoes.

Stinky Tofu @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei

Hmm, this is definitely an acquired taste. It smells like shit (literally) but tastes pretty good.

Oyster Omelette @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei

Not a big fan. I dislike the sweet sauce they drenched the omelette in. I like it savoury.

‘Aiyu’ Jelly @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei

You can find this everywhere. It’s a refreshing drink/dessert with a splash of lime. Look out for the “frog” light box – you won’t miss it.

‘Shui Qiao’ or Steam Dumplings @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung serves the best food during my Taiwan trip. These are delicious!

Papaya Milk @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung

AWESOME. AWESOME. Endorsed by Chen Shui-bian too.

Candied Fruit Sticks @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei

BBQ Squid @ Ximending, Taipei

Sour Plum Juice @ Danshui, Taipei

Carambola Juice @ Ximending, Taipei – very famous, I hear.

Baked Pork Buns @ Liouhe Night Market, Kaohsiung

Taiwanese Sausage @ Shilin Night Market, Taipei – huge!

‘Loh Mei’ @ Taipei Zhongshan Metro Mall, Taipei

Herbal Tea @ near Longshan Temple, Taipei – FABULOUS!

Have fun eating if you’re in Taiwan!

Teaser: Something Stinky?

Just a quick teaser on my Taiwan trip: Modern Toilet. This famous toilet-inspired restaurant serves food and drinks with poo and pee in mind! You eat your food from toilet bowls and drink from urinals. Interesting concept! We celebrated mum’s birthday in this restaurant with a poo-poo fruit jelly. It was sooo yummy! HAHA.

I’ll blog about Taiwan more. Right now, I’m rushing to catch the High-Speed Rail to Taipei. Don’t fall for the Monday Blues :D

Tokyo! Day 1: Gucci Cafe

Here’s the irony. The first meal I had in Tokyo is not Japanese. In fact, I stumbled into the Gucci Cafe at Ginza. This is the first of its kind in the world in Gucci‘s signature building in the luxe shopping district. Thanks to Superfuture, I found the place in no time. Yes, I’m the navigator and planner – Bubster just went with the flow. This is my ultimate luxe dining experience… (well, in a foreign country I’m saying). I thought the food was overly pricey but the experience was worth it. I might return for dessert and coffee… but not for breakfast! Here’s a sneak peek of my Gucci dining adventure:

Welcome to Gucci Cafe :)

An overview of the cafe. Yeah, it’s pretty empty on a Sunday morning.

Even the menu is blessed with the Gucci monogram.

My breakfast: Barlotti Beans & Calamari Salad. Very yummy, surprisingly.

Yummy!!! As you can tell from my beaming face.

I love it when my cappucino looks pretty.

My cute Japanese waiter. He’s so shy because I wanted to take his photo! You should see the rest of the sales people in Gucci. The men are tall and gorgeous like models! Bubster just rolled his eyes.

The man plans our route – yeah right. LOL.

There are a lot of Guccis around. Make sure you go to 4-4-10 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. This is a must-see, must-eat destination in Tokyo. Yes, accept the irony. Tokyo adventures, to be continued.

It Takes Two to Tango

11 February. Bubster and I celebrated our 2nd year anniversary at Greenwood Fish Market & Bistro (34 Greenwood Avenue) last night with good fish & chips and tiger prawns. It feels like we just started dating and moving in together yesterday. Time really flies, but in a good way. I love you, Bubster. Happy Anniversary, and many more :)

In my humble opinion, Best Fish & Chips in Singapore.

Grilled tiger prawns for starters. YUM.

The awesome main: Fish & Chips with malt vinegar.

The boy and I.

Food La La: How to Make a Sexy Salad

I’ve been busy with school lately. My group mates and I shot this Jamie Oliver-inspired ‘cooking show’ on Sunday for our project called “Food La La”. The inspiration behind the ‘Sexy Chef’ is to make healthy food look extremely sexy. Yes, that’s my group mate Ghim (single and available, any takers?) who kindly ‘prostitute’ his hot bod in hope for good grades. Any comments? Watch the whole video for a surprise ending! (I won’t spoil it).

I Scream “Ben & Jerry’s Chunk Fest”!

I’m officially a “Chubby Hubby”. If you’ve missed the Ben & Jerry’s Chunk Fest – hoho – you’re gonna regret this big time! This is the first-ever ice cream festival held at the Fort Canning Green, organised by the good people from Ben & Jerry’s. Best of all, admission is FREE for all – means you’ve no excuse not to miss the fun. There were 34 flavours available which includes 12 exclusive flavours that will were available for 1-day only! I tried the Half-Baked (“A crazy concoction of chocolate icecream & vanilla ice cream mixed with fudge brownies & gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough”) and Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl (“Milk chocolate ice cream with a thick peanut butter swirl”). They both were delicious especially the peanut butter one. Let me tantalise you with snapshots of my yummy afternoon.

Peace & Love!

The boy and I were up for some ice cream action.

I scream for ICE CREAM!!!

Ooh, bubble peace.

Despite the rain, the happy campers continued their little picnic.

Spotted: Moe Moe!

The stage – where the moosic happens.

This is PEACE. LOVE. HAPPINESS. Good times.

The “aircondition” saved the white man’s day.

Happiness is another B&J’s goodie bag!! I absolutely love it.
