It’s been TWO years since I attended the Redken Tribe show in 2008. Time flies! This time, I was excited to see “The Inspiring World of Redken” show because it was such an experience to watch magnificent hair being styled right in front of your eyes. Best of all, I sat on the front row with the peeps from ST Urban and RazorTV- now, that’s a another level of experience! You gotta love the unobstructed view and fabulous photos
It was fun watching Redken artists Eugene Ong and Casey Chua work their magic on the runway.
The joy of sitting front row. No blockage
The good people at Komachi: The Hair Cult (#02-07 Liang Court Shopping Centre) invited me over to experience their services first hand! Firstly, I was excited to meet Japanese hairstylists as I have heard about their precision haircuts and of course, great styles. I’m a Leo – so I’m very very particular about my ‘mane’. Well, I can be experimental sometimes. My hairstylist, Horii is a sweetie – he is so polite and I heard that he has done styling for VIVI magazine! He can speak basic English but that’s good enough. Read my exclusive interview below to find out more about the salon and also some latest hair trends:
Say “Hello” to Horii and yes *signature peace sign*
What inspired Horii to be a hair stylist? How long has he been in this profession?
Horii has been in this line for 8 years but he was exposed to the hair circle since young. His mother runs a hair salon back home, thus he virtually grew up in a hair salon. Horii has always been surrounded by fashion and hairstyles. His biggest inspiration comes from his mother and it has always been his dream to follow her footsteps as a hair stylist. He believes that a hair stylist is like a magician, someone who could magically transform people’s looks from the ordinary to the extraordinary.
The very impressive ‘tool’ belt. I want one too!
What are the hair trends for this season?
For the current wearable trend, long hair is out while the bob is making a stir in the scene once again. But do consult your stylist before chopping off those locks as not everybody suits the bob look.

Many Asians have a problem with limp hair – what hair tricks can you do to add volume to your hair?
- For those with short hair, you may consider a root perm. This perm just gives you volume and strength at the roots so that you don’t end up looking like a poodle.
- Another way to add volume would be to get a hair cut that has more layers at the top of the head.
- Otherwise, styling products like a wax or mud can help to give you some temporally volume as well.
You’ve got to try this ‘milk shake’ treatment – it’s heavenly!
Which celebrity hairstyle has the highest demand by your customers?
Ayumi Hamasaki (me: really?!? – what about Posh Becks?)
Ta-dah! The result of Horii‘s magic touch! What do you think?
Why is Komachi different than other hair salons in Singapore?
We pride ourselves on our stylists cutting techniques, technical knowledge and creativity. We make an effort to ensure we are at the forefront of hair trends and ensure that every customer walks out with his/her desired look. ADVERTORIAL:
Dear ‘lovely’ locks:
My deep, sincere apologies for colouring you this year with frequent touch ups. You know I don’t like damp hair so I have to use the hairdryer twice a day. Sometimes I use styling products because you never stay in place. I do enjoy a good swim – but I know you hate drinking chlorinated water. And, you always complain about that lousy hairbrush I got from Kuala Lumpur.
I know you are not feeling on top of the world right now – but hey, I found something pretty awesome:
Dove Daily Treatment Conditioner
Believe it or not, this is the first-ever Daily Treatment Conditioner from Dove. It is perfect for the lazy girl like me. I know I never had time to treat you well… and yes, you deserved better.
This is my everyday solution to all your problems. You don’t have to suffer any longer because you’re going to love Dove to bits because I do!
There are two types of Dove Daily Treatment Conditioner: Dry Therapy and Intense Damage Therapy.
Dry Therapy Treatment moisturises the driest parts of the hair surface, while Intense Damage Therapy Treatment fills in every small crack on the damaged cuticle. So far, I’m alternating both for maximum benefits!
You know what, I’m going to give you a total makeover! With the Dove Hair Therapy “Choose My Hairstyle” application, I am determined to find the perfect look for you.
Step 1: Take a clear picture of you (without the hair) using your webcam or upload a picture from your computer.
Step 2: Pick the hairstyle and colour on the left panel – this is the fun part!
Do you like it ultra short?
Or ultra-long? (omg!)
Step 3: Confirm the chosen hairstyle and you can save it as an image or share it on Facebook or embed it on your blog! Simple as ABC.
Tell me how you feel. From the way you look, I can tell you’re feeling much better and livelier! At only $5.50, I’m sure all recessionitas can afford it – so can I. Love that bouncy feeling ☺
Love,
Me
Coco Rocha, move away – there’s a new red head in town. I haven’t color my hair in ages, 2 years to be exact! When I received Hoyu Professional‘s festive gift, I immediately thought that I should color my hair to kick start the new year. On Friday 13th, I went to SensesCut Hairdressing (#02-82 Far East Plaza) for my haircut and color. I picked Hoyu Professional’s Promaster Color – well, my lovely hairstylist, May Ee suggested to get a red hue for my hair. It’s not the first time I had red hair so it was no biggie. May Ee is certified as a ‘Color Master’ unlike the usual hairstylist who knows how to do everything but master of none. In Japan, hair coloring is a designated profession – that’s why they are more ‘pro’ in coloring hair.
The ‘Before’ look. My very out-of-shape bob.
Hoyu Professional has very low ammonia content. It doesn’t stink at all!
Spoilt for choice! I thought the silver was kinda cool.
After the hair cut. Still normal lookin’.

Watch this UFO-lookin’ thing cooking my hair. I’ve never seen this before!
Ta-dah! The final product. I’m the new red head after 3.5 “hungry” hours.
I LOVE IT!
(pls don’t mind my aunty cardigan – cold laaa)
I know. I know. I’m bad at keeping my hair long. I’ll never get out of my bob. Seriously. I went to my regular hairstylist and asked for bangs – again. I ended up looking very China doll-like. I wanted this “chomped up” fringe – I don’t know if this suited me or not. It can be very edgy if I wear dark eye liner or striking makeup. I’m too lazy for that. I need a lazy haircut. Oh well, hair will grow.
Hoyu Professional gave me a complimentary haircut, colour, treatment whatever. I can’t wait. I’ve heard alot about Hoyu and all. I’m saving my appointment before Chinese New Year. I promise – new colour, new look. I hope it kicks ass!!

I’ve been thinking about colouring my hair after two years of staying au naturel.
Maybe it’s time for a change. Hello 2009!

According to Fashionologie, “After over a month of hiding her newfound red hair with wigs and scarves, Coco Rocha finally unveiled her new look last Thursday in person. The January 2009 issue of Vogue has the first editorial look at Coco’s new tresses, complete with article explaining the reason behind the change. Apparently she had strawberry blonde hair when she was very young, and was determined to get back to her roots: “I have a big group of friends from childhood who are all redheads, and my mother mother is a redhead, and one of my friends’ moms is a redhead. So they’ve all said that they were, as a group, a kind of family, and I was the adopted brown-haired girl. Now I get to go home and be a part of the family.”"
