Is that you, Kirsten?

Kirsten Dunst was spotted in Tokyo for a shoot with Hollywood director McG and Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami. As part of “Pop Life: Art in a Material World,” – Takeshi’s latest exhibition at London’s Tate Museum, McG and Murakami are producing a short film called, “Akihabara Majokko Princess” starring Dunst singing a cover of The Vapors“Turning Japanese.” This is the exhibit’s final piece. I can’t wait to see it – but does that mean I’ve to go to London? Food for thought. I bet Kirsten must be turning heads in Akihabara in that gear – I wish I was there. I’m such a fan girl.

Look Book: Framed by Keita Maruyama

You may not know this but I’m actually half-blind. If I’m a little richer, I would have opted for Lasik surgery. Right now, I can only afford to invest in a good pair of glasses which can last me awhile – minus the risk of my klutziness. I normally don’t wear glasses during the day because a. I look super unglam with glasses and b. my eyes subconsciously become lazy. I’m currently wearing Keita Maruyama frame – yes, I’ve been obsessed with all things Japanese since my trip in April. I’ve been trying to learn some jap phrases on my iPod every morning on my way to work. Anyways, I’m in love with my glasses – but you won’t catch me wearing it often! Today is an exception. It’s Friday and my eyes are lazy. My colleague thinks I look like an aunty from the 60s. Ah well. Style is subjective :P

My new edition to my work desk – a Sea World souvenir from my colleague!

Are you having double-vision? Me too.

Yes, I can’t help but post more close up photos of my geeky glasses.

I love the star – reminds me of Jem & the Holograms.

I love good quality glasses that can last forever (now, that’s not true).

See the white stripes? Love the lil’ details.

I Miss You, Tokyo.

I’m in love with you, Tokyo.

I can’t stop thinking about you.

I miss exploring you.

I miss my Yakitori under the train tracks.

I miss shopping like a crazy duck.

I promise. I’ll be back.

Tokyo!: MUJI in Shinjuku

Most of you are familiar with the minimalistic Japanese design label, MUJI. This label clearly stands-out due to its “design minimalism, emphasis on recycling, avoidance of waste in production and packaging, and no-logo or “no-brand” policy”. DId you know that the name was derived from a Japanese word which translates as ‘no brand quality goods’? True to its name, MUJI offers a range of household products, consumer goods and even no-frills range of clothing. The outlet at Shinjuku is obviously much bigger, and has a clean store layout that makes you feel – at home, ironically.

I’m currently back home in Malaysia – loving the peace and tranquility. It’s the first time I’m back this year. It’s wonderful to catch up with my mum, sis, grandparents and friends. I’m so happy. There is no place like home :)

Tokyo!: Francfranc DESIGN FOR LIFE

I discovered Francfranc while shopping in Shinjuku. Francfranc is a Japanese home furnishing store – think IKEA but wayyy better! Well, it is more ‘girly’ if you ask me – but hey, I love it! I could furnish my entire apartment with Francfranc stuff. There are three types of store concept: Francfranc DESIGN FOR LIFE, Francfrancfranc and Francfranc BAZAR. I went to Francfranc DESIGN FOR LIFE in Shinjuku and I refused to leave the store without a full basket of cute nonsense! LOL. Trust me, you’ll go crazzzy in here.

My Japan adventure has finally come to an end (sobs sobs). But, I’m definitely going to come back! Tokyo is THE ‘shopping mecca’ for me – I love the mixture of streetstyle, quirkiness (or some say, freakiness) and of course, the Japanese have been incredibly nice and friendly. Right now, I’m stuck at Narita airport for seven hours (sigh) thanks to some instrumental faulty on Cathay Pacific. Bubster and I have to take another flight via Japan Airlines because there are no more flights out of here for today! I was tempted to extend my stay but I think my magic card will be overstretched!

Tokyo!: Funky802 Digmeout Exhibition 2009

Let’s divert from fashion to art for a moment. On the first day, I was mesmerised by the artworks of indie/modern Japanese artists at Funky802 Digmeout Exhibition 2009 in the infamous Sony Building in GInza. Just a brief background, “digmeout” is an art project organized by Osaka’s radio station FM802 to dig-out and support fresh talented artists to kick start their art career. I think it’s a brilliant idea especially when there are so many talents brewing in this country. Everyone wants to be discovered and this is the perfect platform for the Japanese young artists to showcase their works. So far, I was ultra-impressed!

Tokyo! Day 2: Beams Japan

Have you heard of Beams? It’s like the coolest ever. It’s like a multiplex like Barneys New York but wayyy awesome. Definitely for the younger, trendier audience. The store made indie and obscure labels available to the masses which super convenient. This is one of the highlights of my shopping adventures in Tokyo and a definite must-shop! Bubster got a really nice bag from here. I just took lotsa photos of items that caught my eye. The prices are not cheap cheap, but you pay for what you get. I’ll let the photos do the talking:

I’m in Kyoto now. I don’t really have internet access here. So, be patient! Will be back in Tokyo by Friday.

Look Book: Hello Kitty in Shinjuku

Day TWO. I spent another day exploring yet another shopping district in Tokyo: SHINJUKU. I seriously spent too much time and energy shopping (I forgot to eat sometimes!) and not sightseeing. This is B-A-D. My “magic” card had a good workout too. Hmm, I hope I won’t get a shock when I see my bill! Anyway I found a Hello Kitty gift shop in Shinjuku. I thought it was quite an iconic character for Japan. Here she is!
