I Heart OSIM uAngel

Who doesn’t love a good massage? Lucky for me, I was invited to be featured in an OSIM advertorial in this month’s Home & Decor Singapore magazine. I had the privilege to try the new OSIM uAngel, a chic and compact massage chair that can be easily transformed into an arm chair. It comes in five colours (Cosmic Blue, Mystique Grey, Stellar Red, Enchanting Green and Celestial White)  to suit your apartment. I picked Mystique Grey as it goes with the colour palette of my apartment. My favourite massage function is De-Stress and it’s great to get a massage by the end of the day. You really feel the difference! I’m super thrilled to see my apartment in a magazine, haha.

Good news, OSIM is having a National Day promotion and you can get an OSIM uAngel for S$1,948.00 (U.P. S$2,688.00) and receive a free uPixie (worth S$238). Offer valid whilst stocks last or until August 18th, 2013.

#ThrowbackThursday: Fashion in 90s Teen Flicks

In respect of #ThrowbackThursday, let’s pay a fashion tribute to some of my favourite 90s teen flicks. If you’re about my age, you probably remember these films (because they were so awesome!). Otherwise, download them on iTunes Store and enjoy your 90s teen flick marathon this weekend. Whether you like it or not, there is a 90s revival going on in the fashion world. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and pay our respects to the original 90s style:

#1: Empire Records (1995)

#ThrowbackThursday: Empire Records

Cropped sweaters. Plaid skirts. Oversized t-shirts. Empire Records‘ style still holds true today. This film defined music and Liv Tyler. I’m still grooving to Reese Witherspoon singing “Sugarhigh” till this day and dreaming of cropped sweaters.

#2: Cruel Intentions (1999)

#ThrowbackThursday: Cruel Intentions

I watched Cruel Intentions tonight via Fox Movies Play and it all came back to me… Ryan Phillippe was so hot and Kathryn Merteuil is a bigger bitch than Blair Waldorf. From Kathryn‘s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) sexy power suit to Cecile Caldwell‘s (Selma Blair) innocent getups, Cruel Intentions is 99% sexy and 1% evil. Who knew that clothes can tell you so much about a person?

#3: Romeo + Juliet (1996)

#ThrowbackThursday: Romeo + Juliet

From the first time the duo met at the Capulet‘s costume party, Romeo + Juliet captured my heart with their whirlwind romance and tore it apart within 90 minutes. I thought Juliet‘s (Claire Danes) wedding dress was simply beautiful yet age-appropriate. Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) stayed true to his Caribbean-style with the floral tie and sharp navy suit. I watched this again last night and wept like a baby (we all know how this movie ends!).

#4: 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

#ThrowbackThursday: 10 Things I Hate About You

Heath Ledgersigh. You are missed dearly. Based on Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew”, 10 Things I Hate About You is such a lovable teen flick. I think I’ve seen this film like 15 times or more. Kat Stratford‘s (Julia Stiles) slinky blue dress is still very relevant today. But, she’s gotta lose those curls.

#5: Clueless (1995)

#ThrowbackThursday: Clueless

You can’t talk about fashion in 90s teen flicks without Clueless (as if!). Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) and her posse changed the face of fashion in film before Sex and the City. True story! We all know the outrageous school outfits by heart. Essentially, the girls can’t live without their mini skirts, knee-high socks and sweaters over shirts. Très chic!

#6: Can’t Hardly Wait (1998)

#ThrowbackThursday: Can't Hardly Wait

I lovvveeeeee this film so much when I was a teenager. In fact, I hunted for a baby blue tank top and blue skirt so I can pretend to be Jennifer Love Hewitt. Strangely, Can’t Hardly Wait inspired me to write my first confessional letter. He never got the letter. I guess he doesn’t need it now.

The Battle of the iPhone Cases: Moschino’s Luisa VS Nicopanda’s Zombie Panda

Alright, this is a serious showdown. Let’s gather around for the *drums roll* … The Battle of the iPhone Cases: Moschino‘s Luisa the Goose iPhone case vs Nicopanda‘s Zombie Panda iPhone case. It’s not just a popularity contest so may the best winner… win.

Moschino Luisa the Goose iPhone 4 / 4S Case

Move over Gennarino, your girlfriend’s in town! Luisa the Goose is one of the best iPhone cases – like ever. Best of all, you can buy two version – for iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5. I mean c’mon… Luisa is hugging your phone. Like how cute is that? Good news, Moschino‘s Luisa the Goose iPhone cases go on sale worldwide at the end of January. Start to count down.

Nicopanda Zombie Panda iPhone Case

Who doesn’t love ZOMBIES? Nicopanda‘s Zombie Panda iPhone case is too cool for school. This squishy silicone iPhone case is only available for iPhone 4 / 4S. Oh well, I am currently using an iPhone 5 – so, this one’s out for me. Priced at USD85.00 and available in two colours – black and blue/white. Time to place your order now!

And the winner is… Moschino‘s Luisa the Goose! Just because there is an iPhone 5 version. Hah.

Fash-News: Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) Singapore Opens in June 2012

It’s not a secret anymore. Hong Kong lifestyle label Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) is set to open its first overseas and fourth-largest store in Singapore through LifeStyle Scene Pte Ltd. The 6,000 sqft store at Central, Clarke Quay will open its doors at the end of June and you will be the first to hear what’s available in stores here. I first blogged about G.O.D. back in August 2008 – yes, that’s a long time ago! Since then, I never failed to make my annual pilgrimage to G.O.D. store in Hong Kong for quirky Asian-inspired gifts, homeware and even bags. I guess I don’t have to travel 2569km to get my G.O.D. fix. If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, you can read more here (I’m not going to give you a history lesson). Let’s get down to business and see what goodies you can expect from G.O.D. in June:

Honestly… I’m not sure if these funky Mui Jai Qi Paos (HK$490) are going to be available in Singapore. Maybe I can make it come true by blogging about them!

These Dim Sum Dinner Set (HK$355) are incredibly appetizing in siumai, BBQ pork bun, shrimp dumpling, rice noodle roll and springroll designs.

Yaumati Tea Cup Sets are stackable and chic. Double Happiness Dinnerware Set will make a lovely wedding gift!

If you have a habit of lying on the bed or floor, you might need this Newspaper Humpty.

Yaumati Stationary Set features the iconic buildings of the old district in Hong Kong. Can’t wait till the store opens in end June!

5 Reasons Why Francfranc Rocks My World

Let me refresh your memory: I was invited to Tokyo in March by the good folks at Japanese home furnishing brand, Francfranc and it’s time for my trip report *drums roll* As you know, I’m a Francfranc-natic since my first visit to Francfranc Shinjuku store back in 2009. I couldn’t be more excited when I found out that Francfranc is making its way to Singapore with not one, but two stores located at JCube and Vivocity (opening in June 2012). If you haven’t got a clue what Francfranc is all about, let me tell you five reasons why Francfranc absolutely rocks my world:

1. Francfranc makes life happier. Period.

CEO and founder of Francfranc, Mr Fumio Takashima often spoke of his vision of creating “happiness” and referred to his customers as “friends”. He believes in making a difference and instilling happiness in everyone’s daily life with Francfranc vibrant and colourful products. He also believes in creating good quality but affordable products for his customer which sets Francfranc apart from the local competitors. Personally, I love a splash of seasonal colours in my home. For instance, I am obsessed with Francfranc‘s cushion covers and this is the easiest way to spice up your living room without changing a single furniture. It brings me joy to create a warm, comfortable home with a hint of personality.

Happiness is hugging Mickey & Minnie from the Francfranc x Disney collaboration range.

Are these BOOKS? OR secret storage boxes?

Mr. Fumio Takashima and I at BALS headquarters in Tokyo.

2. Francfranc stores are all about style.

Did you know that most Francfranc stores are designed by Mr. Yasumichi Morita, Designer & President of GLAMOROUS co., ltd – including the 20,000 sqft flagship store at Vivocity? Morita-san is a rock star. He walked into BALS headquarters in a sharp Chanel tweed jacket, Hermès scarf and Christian Louboutin shoes. A man with such immaculate taste can only create magic such as Francfranc Aoyama store, also known as Francfranc Village (see picture below). Morita-san walked through his design concept for the largest Francfranc store at Vivocity called Francfranc Wonderland. Think Alice in Wonderland as patrons walked into a world of wonder with chairs twice their size! I can’t wait to preview the new Vivocity store when it opens in early June.

Be amazed by the creative warehouse-like space at Francfranc Village. You can’t miss the humongous chandelier hanging above.

What did I say? The man is a rock star, alright.

3. Francfranc makes products for the young, fashionable women.

It’s true. Since the beginning, Francfranc has always been designing for young women in their 20s and 30s with the aim of creating a fun and trendy lifestyle. Francfranc offers a variety of products from eight categories such as kitchen and table, fabric (curtains), hobby and culture, kitchen fabric (aprons, tea towels), beauty and health (soap, bath products, scents), furniture (sofas, cupboards), lightings (including other electrical appliances) and interior accessories (art, photo frames and clocks). You can expect new, fun products every season – Spring, Summer and Cruise or stick to the basics with Francfranc Standard line. Let’s not forget the current Francfranc collaboration with Disney.

I love the sizes of the sofa – perfect for small apartments in the city!

Tea, anyone?

I love all things wood and white. So Scandinavian.

4. BALS headquarters is a dream.

No surprises who designed BALS headquarters – Mr. Yasumichi Morita, of course. I’m such a fan of his work. I mean, just look at the Pantry Room! I remember thinking, “Gosh, I could seriously work here”. Hire me, please!

The longest pantry room table ever. Don’t you love the Pantone coloured chairs?

The BALS headquarters office lobby is so chic.

5. Francfranc’s siblings are awesome too.

FYI. I didn’t just visit Francfranc stores in Tokyo. In fact, I popped by a few other sister stores such as BALS Tokyo (a luxurious, high-end home furnishing label), J-Period (old-meets-new Japanese lifestyle label) and WTW (laidback, surfer lifestyle label). I ended up a couple bits and pieces from each store. In case you’re wondering how the stores look like, here are some photos from my trip:

Love these storage boxes from BALS Tokyo at Roppongi.

Since it is Cherry Blossom season, we bought Sakura tea from J-Period.

I love everything at WTW especially the wooden furniture – must be the hippie in me.

Rockin’ Out: 2012 Coachella Style

The inner hipster in me dies for music festivals. Furthermore, I love the styles spotted at this year’s Coachella. Listening to live ‘indie’ bands. Soaking up the sun. Sometimes I’m wondering what the heck I’m doing in Singapore during Coachella. Celebrities such as Emma Watson, Diane Kruger, Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry and many more are seen out and about. Models are strutting their stuff in the “model off duty going to Coachella” look. Major eye-candy action, if you ask me! Here are some of the best looks so far at Coachella 2012 and let’s take inspiration from these street style shots for the next music festival:

Francfranc Opens Largest Flagship Store in Vivocity, Singapore

OH-MY-GAWD! My favorite Japanese home furnishing brand, Francfranc is opening in Singapore on June 1st, 2012 in Vivocity. This is the largest flagship store in the world and the first in Southeast Asia – right here in the Little Red Dot. How amazing is that? I guess I don’t have to worry about lugging Francfranc from my Japan trip this mid-June. I can already picture myself doing the happy dance in the 20,000 sq ft space at Vivocity. Designed by award-winning designer, Yasumichi Morita, I look forward to explore the ‘Francfranc Wonderland’ which occupies the second floor. Francfranc Singapore will be offering home furnishings, fabrics, lighting, appliances, a range of home and interior accessories, health and beauty products, along with table and kitchenware.

If you’re not familiar with Francfranc, go check out their soft-opening fair at VivoCity’s Atrium from 18 to 24 April 2012 to showcase some of its collections. Get ready to pimp your room / house! See more pictures on my Facebook Page.

This is the artist impression of how the store front would look like.

Isn’t this a dream? I love the minimalism and pop colors combination of this dining setting.

Homeware section – I can’t wait! Hurry, June pls come soon!

I need a work desk like this. Ooh, and the wallpaper too.

Laneway Festival 2012 with Dr. Martens & The Cambridge Satchel Co.

Laneway Festival 2012 is back for the second time in Singapore! It is the indie music event of the year which featured amazing acts such as Feist, M83, Laura Marling, The Drums and etc. Dr. Martens Singapore kindly invited me to Laneway Festival 2012 (yay!) and also sponsored my pair of Dr. Martens for the event (double yayy!). Thank you, Dr. Martens! The best thing ever was Dr. Martens festival survival kit which contains a useful raincoat (considering last year’s weather!), tiny torchlight, wet wipes (super handy!) and keychain with a bottle opener. The weather was scorching hot. I actually wished it rained. I carried my Cambridge Satchel Company‘s 14-inch Classic Satchel in Green sponsored by the good folks at Doorstep Luxury. In case you’re interested, it’s SGD225 and free delivery in Singapore! I pinned my Dr. Martens button badge on it – share the love! My pal, Janice came along with me – it’s our Laneway Redux. I guess I need to spend some quality time with her before she heads off to her six-month adventure in Kiwiland. Here are the photos from our Laneway experience – can’t wait for next yearrrrr!

Picked up my festival survival kit. The good folks from Dr. Martens shuttled concert goers from City Hall to Fort Canning Park. Smart!

Do you like my Dr. Martens? It’s knee-high and purple.

So I was freshening up at the National Museum of Singapore… check out my Green Satchel courtesy of Doorstep Luxury.

The yellow raincoat came in handy when it started to drizzle at 5:00pm for like… 5 minutes.

Do you know this man? We’ve been seeing him at all the concerts – basically the tall, white man at every concert in the front!

Meet Tim – I’ll be interviewing one day so stay tuned :)

Jan and I goofing around! Check out ST’s Life today for my short interview about Laneway.

OH, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

RED Inspiration: Ferrari 458 Spider

There is nothing sexier than a red Ferrari. I was invited to preview the new Ferrari 458 Spider, the world’s first mid-rear engined berlinetta equipped with a retractable hard top. Boy, this car is HOTTT. This baby is powered by Ferrari‘s naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 which was nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year. Personally, I think the car itself is a work of art – you gotta love the beautiful curves and the color just screams “power”. Any lady would love to take it for a ride – or be driven as well. Ital Auto, the exclusive distributor of Ferrari in Singapore is now taking orders for this new 458 Spider. How much? Ahh, prices start from S$998,000 without COE. Are you ready for a test-drive?

Inspired by the new Ferrari 458 Spider, I’ve picked my favorite red fashion items and celebrity style to celebrate the beauty of this car. Let’s go RED!

Hello Ferrari 458 Spider!

Girls, we can’t have enough red, hot accessories! Here are my picks for January 2012 :)

(from top clockwise) Marc Jacobs Single Large quilted leather bag (£539.46)icon, Proenza Schouler PS1 Extra Large leather satchel (£1,649.59), J.Crew Biella patent-leather loafers (£191.67), Bottega Veneta Leather and watersnake intrecciato pouch (£561.75), Kenneth Jay Lane 22-karat gold-plated crystal ladybug ring (£70.83), Oliver Peoples J Gold oval-frame acetate and titanium sunglasses (£263.04), Lanvin Embellished poplin doll (£170.83), Yves Saint Laurent Arty gold-plated enamel ring (£145.83)

Let’s take cue from the celebrities. Katherine Heigl can definitely rock RED at the NYC premiere of One for the Money. I absolutely heart Kate Bosworth‘s Antonio Berardi red dress from the Spring 2012 collection that she wore to the Sundance premiere of Black Rock.

I love these carefree red dresses from Anthropologie: Ruffled Oska Dress ($168)  Dot-Wing Dress ($198)

Top “Must-See” Art: Art Stage Singapore 2012 (12 – 15 January)

Art Stage Singapore 2012 (12 – 15 January 2012) is the second edition of Asia-Pacific’s premier international contemporary Asian art fair at Marina Bay Sands Convention and Exhibition Centre. I was invited to its Vernissage Day opening last night for an exclusive VIP preview of the 130 participating galleries from 18 countries with over 50 special projects and presentations. This is my second time to Art Stage Singapore 2012 and I can easily say that this year’s showcase really blew my mind, especially with the higher presence of Southeast Asian and North Asian art. Get ready to see amazing pieces from high-profile exhibitors such as Gana Art Gallery (Seoul/Busan), Gallery Hyundai (Seoul), Mizuma Art Gallery (Tokyo), Ota Fine Art (Tokyo), Tang Contemporary Art (Bangkok/Hong Kong/Beijing), Galerie Eigen+Art (Leipzig/Berlin), Ben Brown Fine Arts (London), Lehmann Maupin (New York), Victoria Miro (London), White Cube (London) and Takashi Murakami‘s Kaikai Kiki Gallery (Tokyo, Taipei).

I spent almost four hours at Art Stage Singapore 2012 and I have so much more to see and experience. The highlight of my night was meeting South Korean artist, Hyung Koo Kang and taking a photograph with the man himself. You bet I’ll be back over the weekend to continue my art immersion walk. Whether you are an art collector or just an art enthusiast, I highly recommend you to attend Art Stage Singapore 2012 – just to immerse yourself in the wonderful art pieces from all over the world. You buy your Art Stage Singapore 2012 season pass (all 3-days) or one-day pass here.

For more photos from Art Stage Singapore 2012, head down to my Facebook Page. Here are some key “must-see” pieces that you should not miss – in my opinion:

One of the first major art pieces you’ll see when you first walk in to the exhibition area. “Lost Paradise 1” (2009-2010) and “Lost Paradise 2” (2010-2011) by artistic duo called THEY (China) has such incredible details. A must-see!

You can’t miss this. Yavuz Fine Art specially commissioned this “Navinland Needs You: We are Asia!” (2012) by Navin Rawanchaikul from Thailand.

This blew my mind away! “Paintings of Sage Traces No. 1″ (2011) by Chinese artist, Zhang Huan. Incense ashes and adhesive on linen – that’s incredible!

I was immediately drawn into the facial expressions of “Indonesian Women” (2010 – 2011) by Yan Pei-Ming.

From famed Japanese artist, Keiichi Tanaami, this “Superabundant existence” has all the pop colors and essence of Keiichi’s works.

“Theresa” (2011) by South Korean artist Hyung Koo Kang, oil on aluminum is unbelievable when you see this in real-life. The aluminum strokes bring this picture to life.

I was literally speechless when I met the non-English speaking Hyung Koo Kang in person. Thanks to his interpretor, Sean Lee that we managed to communicate (somehow hehe).

I NEED THIS. I fell in love with Ma Jun‘s new china series and you gotta love this “Tape Recorder” (2006).

Is this the Girl With The Pearl Earring? Not. This piece is by Morimura Yasumasa“Vermeer Study: Looking Back (Mirror),” (2008).

If  you’re interested in Ai Weiwei‘s work – this “Kui Hua Zi (Sunflower Seeds)” (2009) contains 1000 sunflower seeds in porcelain, sculpted and painted by hand in a glass jar. I guess that’s quite an achievement on its own right?

One of my favorites from Art Stage Singapore 2012. This Diasec on C-print “Saturday Night” (2007) by South Korean artist, Insook Kim.

It’s purely voyeuristic and it will leave you staring at it for hours.

Singapore, represent! From the local art collective, :phunk, this “D.R.E.A.M.” (2011) silkscreen with diamond dust – bling, anyone?

This is a candy wonderland. “We Are The Singing Pirates” (2011) by Seong Tae Jin is embossed works on wood – which is awesome.

Watch the young artists from Takashi Murakami‘s Kaikai Kiki Gallery paint ‘live’ at their booth. So inspiring!

If I have a house THIS BIG, I want this. It didn’t look amazing in the books or online, but I was fascinated by the details when I see Mr.’s “Desktop of my Mind” (2011) in person. Yes, the artist is simply known as Mr.

Here’s an upclose of one eye – look at that!!

Speaking about details, this “Dissected Buddha” (2011) is an incredible piece by Tibetan artist, Gonkar Gyatso.

Look closer at the “Dissected Buddha”, it’s a collage of pop icons from everywhere!

From Liu Bolin‘s “Hiding in the City” series – can you tell where he is hiding? This is CRAZY!

I don’t know about you but I’m pretty psyched about Macoto Murayama‘s BoTech art called “Inorganic Flora”. I want to get this, but where should I put this?

The oversized Chen Wenling‘s “Childhood – Horizon” (2010) pieces are good for photo-taking opportunities.

Another Chen Wenling piece that cracked me up big time! “What You See Might Not Be Real” (2009) – hahaha.

Representing Indian contemporary art, Thukral & Tagra‘s “Science, Mystery & Magic II” (2011) is such a delight.

Representing Indonesia, Dadang Christanto‘s “S Plus” is derived from the ancient Greek myth of Sisyphus.

Experience art by taking an old-school photo from just $5. Brought to you from Kuala Lumpur.

Hidden in the corner for VIPs, “Artificial Moon” (2007) by Wang Yuyang is made from over 4,500 energy-saving bulbs and measures 4m in diameter.

Fash-Icon: Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I AM OBSESSED. Not just the film, but with Rooney Mara. I watched ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ over the weekend and was blown away by Rooney Mara‘s raw, complex performance of heavily tattooed, pierced-up Lisbeth Salander. I mean, who is this girl? I don’t even remember her in ‘Youth in Revolt’ (BTW, that was a damn good film too). David Fincher didn’t disappoint with his remake of the first chapter of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose absolutely killed it with the haunting, blood-pumping soundtrack. This blog post pays homage to this incredible film and a bright new star, Rooney Mara. See her amazing editorial in last February’s W magazine and the latest H&M collaboration with ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’, Trish Summerville.

Rooney Mara is going to go farrr.

Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere’s silk and cotton knit top. Tawapa earrings, Jelena Behrend necklace.

This girl needs to eat! Ooh, cute vintage tutu.
Total bad-ass.
Fun Fact: Her tattoos aren’t real. But her piercings are – ouch, nipples!

I felt the chills when watching the film – serious cold winter!

This film made me wanna ride the bike – seriously, how hottttt is this? (Pls, I don’t mean a Harley).

Hello Lisbeth Salander wannabes, here’s how you can inject a little Lisbeth’s edginess into your wardrobe.

The H&M x The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo collection is already available in Singapore since 17 December. If there are still any left!
