Jena Malone may not ring a bell - but you may have seen her in some indie flicks such as Saved!, The Dangerous Lives of the Altar Boys, Donnie Darko or The United States of Leland. No? She’s not your average Hollywood starlet but this ingenue is making her waves in the indie circle, and she dares to be different. Last year, she appeared in Into The Wild (which I’ve been wanting to see!) also starring Emile Hirsch.
I know I’m a little late but Jena Malone was the cover feature in Dirrty Glam’s April 2008 issue. If you haven’t check out the mag, please do! They’re awesome except I can’t understand it – English translation, I beg you. So, I manage to feast my eyes in the editorial which is good enough for now.
What happens when you throw photographer Steve Meisel and a beautiful set of “IT” models together? You get a mind-blowing, crazy editorial that is can simply be summed up with two words: BEAUTIFUL CHAOS. The concept is to revive four fashionable cult groups with a modern twist. This amazing editorial features Agyness Deyn, Caroline Trentini, Gemma Ward, Iselin Steiro, Lily Donaldson, and Sasha Pivovarova. I can’t help thinking how much it is to be on the photo shoot. Talk about fashionably late - this is Fashion Rocks 2007’s “In My Tribe”editorial.
I fell in love with Zooey Deschanel when I first laid my eyes on her in one of my favourite films of all time, Almost Famous. She struck me as a smart, funny and bright-eyed ingenue and I wanted to know everything about her. Zooey not only acts, but she sings as well. Also, she has an impeccable sense of style that is genuine and surprising at times. I even have a “Zooey” folder in my Mac with my favourite photos of her. Cheers to my favourite indie girl in Hollywood (besides Parker Posey, of course) for scoring her Lucky magazine July cover!
Zooey lookin’ very prim and pink at the premiere of ‘The Happening’. Also, a dated photo from the 2006 Teen Choice Awards - I love the big bow and black stockings. Is this still relevant today? What are your thoughts?
This is one of my favourites - Zooey in the infamous Vanity Fair issue with nekkid Scarlett & Keira.
NYLON magazine has archived a library of photo booth pictures from their NYLON Summer Music Tour. And, we’re spotting famous faces in the album. The Super Booth, as they call the crazy travelling camera box has caught some priceless moments and I can’t help but enjoy the faces snapped in a confined box. Agyness, my love!
A couple of years ago, Jan and I went to an old photo booth which Wayne discovered along Middle Road to take this strip of crazy photos. Unfortunately, that particular photo booth doesn’t exists anymore. We took these shots for our Amazing Race Asia #1 application - which we didn’t get selected because AXN only wants pretty famous faces (Boo!). They’ve no idea what they’re missing. LOL. Our hairstyles were so funny back then.
Sun. Sand. Sea. I need my annual beach holiday and luckily for me, I managed to get good flights to Bali in August. The boy and I had a voucher to use for the The Ritz-Carlton, Bali Resort & Spa and this is the perfect timing since flights during August skyrocketed like crazy or worse, sold out! We managed to snag newly released flights via Jetstar Asia - awesome. Anyway, I’ve been day-dreaming about the sea and Fashion156’s The Nautical Issue makes me drool over hues of red, white and navy blue… oh, stripes too:
Singapore’s Catalog Magazine is one of the best “free” fashion magazines around. I usually grabbed my free copy from anywhere, and everywhere I see it. Otherwise, I’ll check ‘em out on via their website. Their May 2008’s fashion spread, Pretty Freaky Fantasy is absolutely whimsical. Do check out their website for more high-res images:
The cover says it all. Claudia Schiffer in only knickers and a cat-mask posed for reowned photographer, Mario Testino. Even the titled screams, “SEX by Mario Testino” - don’t think that needs much explanation but it certainly builds everyone’s anticipation for this Vogue issue.
Yours truly will be taking a short holiday for the long weekend. Be back on Tuesday!
Hot off the press! There’s a hot new reality TV show in town by The CW that is fashionably called, Stylista. Incredibly exciting! As you know Nina Garcia has left Elle magazine for Marie Claire (*yikes*) - and now, look what she’s missing. Brought to you by Tyra Banks, Stylista brings to life the real ‘Devil Wears Prada’ in the Elleoffice in which eleven fashion enthusiasts battle each other out to win the prized position as assistant to Anne Slowey, Fashion News Editor ofElle.
So why go through the pain and drama? The winner gets a full-time editorial position at Elle, a paid lease on a fabulous apartment in Manhattan (gosh, I want that!) and clothing allowance from H&M - all for one year valued at $100,000. Can’t wait for this show - it sounds crazy already!
Here’s a first look at Stylista. Tell me what you think.
x-wen : Rose: Yeah, I would like H&M to reach the shores here, or even Urban Outfitters. LOL. Uniqlo is coming, and I like their basics. I'm bored of the malls in S'pore, it's the same everywhere you go.
x-wen : Rose: Hey you! For film schools, I'm working at NYU Tisch Asia right now. And, NYU is one of the more prestigious film schools in the US. If you're looking at the West coastm you can go to UCLA or CalArts. If not, New York Film Academy is good too.
Rose : yeah, i wish there were brands like H&M, target, Monki in singapore, but even there's topshop, they don't carry everything here:(
Rose : oh my, your bali trip/room/scene was awesome! and ouhhh bikini! haha. Oh btw i heard about you're in the film industry right? Do you have any idea which school is good at it? probably in the US? Bcos it's also one of my options for my further studies. And i've watched both e opening & closing ceremony of the beijing olympic, it's inspirational:)
x-wen : Hee, but you can't have my pineapples! Let me know if you're around town area. We can meetup!
jo_wottoncool : i love your pineapples! HAHA. yes i think we would be able to meet up! NUS is damn far hahah
x-wen : Hey Rose, you were really awesome too. It was nice meeting you! Till we meet again
Rose : opps, i meant left.
Rose : yup credits for them to make all of these happened. Btw you really leave a strong impression on me/us. You were so funny! lol
x-wen : Haha, no it's nottt! I need more comfy comfy shoes - hehe. Not that I don't have, but I want more.
Bingboompia : HAHA! I've always thought is Xiu Wen! HAHA! Gotta edit my post already. Anyway, loafers emits the sense of vintage and comfort, so getting one would be a great invest I think
x-wen : C'mon! You look fine, but the glasses are cute! Yeah, I totally had fun. Thanks to Fashion Nation for feeding us hehe. And, Soon Lee for the space.
Rose : Oh god, I looked really silly in the photos-_-... oh well lol & yeah and I agree with Bingboompia (what a long name), it's really fun chatting with you. And to anybody elses reading this, nice to meet y'all!
x-wen : Hey Jo, YES you both looked so much better than meee! Haiz, I end up looking like some crazy aunty escaping from some hospital. We should definitely meetup again! I live near SMU, but not NUS laa
x-wen : Hey bingboompia, it's Xiao Wen laaa. It was awesome finally meeting you too! Love the red socks - maybe I'll get myself some men's loafers. What do you think?
jo_wottoncool : xiao wen! i like how you said we were supposed to wear spastic stuff - cos sadly that was what i thought too and i turned up looking "cuter" than i hoped to be ): hahahah
Bingboompia : HEY XIU WEN!! I had a great time chatting with you at the party!! You're so down-to-earth and friendly and funny, more than I've expected you to be! HAHA! And yes, I'm your die hard tagger!! HAHA!
x-wen : Hey you! I didn't get your email. Might be lost while doing a server transfer. Can email to me again «email»
Bingboompia : I emailed you my email! Do add me ya?! ANYWAY! Are you going for the gathering? Please Please Please go?
x-wen : Yeah, MSN is almost a staple to keep in touch with people. Email me, if you wanna add me.
Bingboompia : YES YES YES!!! Hope I'm able to go soon! Anyway, do you use MSN often?
x-wen : Haha, you should! It's not very ex to go to HK now. I wanna live there and eat dim sums all day.
Bingboompia : Haha! I'm a huge fan of Naruto, so that character came to my mine straight away when I first saw Agyness's new hair. Anyway, I didn't get to view HK's famous night view from that angle, I was on the peak, but this is still VERY VERY beautiful! God, you're making me wanting to go there EVEN MORE!
x-wen : yeah, I read your post after I blogged. I thought that was a really cute comparison. Good spotting!
Bingboompia : Yes! I went HK once before and besides the cheesy phase "shopping heaven", I just can't find another to describe! HAHA! Anyway, about the new Agyness hair, I too blogged about it and compared it with Hinata, a character from Naruto. Try google image search her, you'll be amused. HAHA!
x-wen : Jo: YUP! I love HK! Haha, your guide was helpful. I ate so much that I'm not sure if I can fit into my clothes anymore!
x-wen : bingboompia: HK was fun! Yeah, was crazy at the Night Festival. I didn't manage to get too close to the show. I was 30 min late!
jo_wottoncool : happy belated birthday! i hope you're enjoying yourself in hk. enjoy yourself for us too! eat more dun dan for me! haha
Bingboompia : You were there for the Festival??! I was too! And yes, the crowd was HUGE!!
Bingboompia : Oh X-wen, HAVE FUN THERE! Envious of you right now! Haha!
x-wen : Haha, he's in almost every Chinese girls' "I wanna marry him" list. That man is 46, he has been single for too long. I'm happy for him.
jo_wottoncool : TONY LEONGGGGGG! he's supposed to be mine ): i'm torn! happy and sad at the same time hahaha
Bingboompia : FINALLY! It's about time for both of them to OFFICIALLY tie the knot. Carina Lau looked as gorgeous as always. I've always liked her femininity and classiness. Congrat, truely.
x-wen : Jo: Haha, I guess I'm a cheap date. To me, holidays are more important than handbags (I know, confession of a fashion blogger)
x-wen : Rose: Thanks! It's about a week away now!!
