Fashion Rocks 2007: In My Tribe

What happens when you throw photographer Steve Meisel and a beautiful set of “IT” models together? You get a mind-blowing, crazy editorial that is can simply be summed up with two words: BEAUTIFUL CHAOS. The concept is to revive four fashionable cult groups with a modern twist. This amazing editorial features Agyness Deyn, Caroline Trentini, Gemma Ward, Iselin Steiro, Lily Donaldson, and Sasha Pivovarova. I can’t help thinking how much it is to be on the photo shoot. Talk about fashionably late - this is Fashion Rocks 2007’s “In My Tribe” editorial.

Get outta my way, Punk!

It’s all about the Rave!

We’re sooo MOD.

Kiss me, my little Goth girl.

Agyness Deyn for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ma Dame

(Photo: Style Frizz)

I’m a little late in Agyness Deyn’s update. The latest fragrance campaign from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ma Dame featuring Agyness Deyn and Gaultier himself as photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. The video is pretty awesome with her chopping off her blonde locks, and snipping off her clothes to create her own style. The essence of the video is very much Agyness if you ask me.

I was just reading Rock.The.Trend. Despite the criticism regarding Agyness as a style icon - I honestly think she’s a breath of fresh air to the modeling industry. She’s in her mid-20s. She seems genuine. She doesn’t look like she starved herself. She seems happy-go-lucky. She doesn’t wear designer all the time. I think she’s great - as compared to some sullen lookin’ Eastern European models you’re seeing these days. What do you think?

Spotted: Erin O’Connor in Tangerine

(Photo: Fabsugar)

Spotted in hot Tangerine! Erin O’Connor looks bright and sexy at the Royal Academy of Arts: Summer Exhibition Preview Party. I love the simplicity of her folded bodice and ruffled skirt matched with black-patent belt. Her gold Swarovski bag adds a little sparkle to her bold look. Did I mention that my lucky colour is orange? That’s what my astrology says.

Agyness Deyn Sings “Who”

My favourite girl, Agyness Deyn is releasing her new collaborative single “Who” with New York band, The Five O’Clock Heroes. Agyness appeared and also sang in the video - it’s catchy, and it kinda reminds me of Milla Jovovich. According to NME, the single will be released on “June 23 on seven-inch vinyl and download formats”. Don’t miss out on this.

i-D Magazine: The Agyness Deyn Issue

This is my most exciting ‘buy’ of the week. I popped by HMV at Heeren this afternoon to get my latest issue of i-D magazine for May 2008’s Agyness Deyn issue. For the first time in 28 years, the magazine dedicated an entire issue to a single individual. How awesome is that? There are six different covers but I only saw TWO covers at HMV - bummer. I’m quite sure the ‘nipple’ didn’t get MDA’s approval. Splashed across the page says “ICON” - how apt.

As the face of Britain, Agyness Deyn is the new “IT” girl, and fashion muse for Henry Holland of House of Holland, and defies all modeling myths - tomboy, short cropped hair, boyis figure, different and highly edgy. She’s prolly the first model that got everyone saying “Kate.. who?” She’s the coolest - I mean, she eats fish & chips and pizza! Thank gawd for high metabolism rate. Here’s a sneak peek which I absolutely love to the max. This is such a collector’s edition if you love all things Agyness:

She’s a man, he’s a woman. You decide.

OMG. She’s such a cutie. I’m havin’ a major major crush. “We are all Prostitutes” LOL.

You can see Agyness Deyn in her naked glory - I feel totally gay now.

On a random note, I had a ‘light bulb’ moment while having Vietnamese food at Va Va Voom Cafe. Then I shared the idea with a friend - you know what I dislike, someone butchering my idea and toss it back at my face. Sometimes I wish I kept my mouth shut.

Malaysian Dreamgirl: First Online Model Search

Move over, America’s Next Top Model! Malaysia is proud to present to you, Malaysian Dreamgirl, our very own model hunt. Or rather the first online model search. This is a brilliant idea - take a reality TV show to the web, and dress girls in skimpy clothing (and not risk censorship because it’s the Internet!). Of course, it’s not the most original idea as Singapore has its own clicknetwork.tv - bah, boring and whiny. The Malaysian record-breaking show is hosted by Sazzy Falak and judged by former beauty queen, Elaine Daly, funny blogger Kenny Sia and stylist Lim Jimmy.

Currently, it’s airing Episode 14 (Yes, I’ve missed out alot!). Anyway, why is Kenny Sia judging this show? Is he our answer to what? Simon Cowell? I understand his position as a famous blogger - and of course, he’ll offer a generous push in terms of web traffic. But, Kenny Sia?? As Elaine Daly said, “Give him (Kenny) anything with short skirt, he’ll say ‘Yes’”. Gosh, we’re going to see some ‘Ah Lians‘ on the show if Elaine and Jimmy do not stop him!

These are my two faves from the show. Jay (left) and Eyna (right) who both possess strong features, sharp expressions and exudes the right confidence. Jay is still in the running for the title of Malaysian Dreamgirl but Eyna was voted out. Seriously, there are fuglier girls in the competition - oh well, results are based on the public’s votes. I guess it’s a popularity contest, or rather who has richer friends to vote for them.

Ooh, absolutely fierce! In this Precinct 2 shoot, Jay really nailed it in this androgynous look. She could almost passed off as a snappy yuppie! I love the power and confidence I’m feeling from this shot. She deserves to win, and I really hope she does.

This 25-year old beauty has potential. She may not be top model material but she can definitely sell herself as a print model. I think she has the right poses that none of the girls have. Eyna has a future - and I hope she builds up her portfolio and her career in modelling.

Here are classic comments from the one, and only Kenny Sia:

“You look like some makcik (aunty) from a pasar malam (night market)”

“Can you spit it (chewing gum) out because that’s not impressing us”

“Your hair is wrong. Your skirt looks like it is picked up from a rubbish bin”

“Your jacket looks like it is made from some table cover from some Mamak (Indian) stall”

Spotlight: Atalanta Weller

(Photo: House of Holland)

This is the girl who made a stiletto shoe from BMW car parts. Enough said.

Atalanta Weller simply redefined “innovation” in fashion, and reinvented shoes - entirely. This newcomer, and little-known name popped up in this year’s London Fashion Week as one of the collaborators for ‘House of Holland‘. In an interview with UK’s Telegraph, Weller said “It’s a proper collaboration. [Henry Holland]‘ll tell me roughly what he wants, I’ll go back to him with sketches”. Her infamous “wicked glossy spike-winged wedges” spotted on Agyness Deyn (see above), has caught the attention of shoe enthusiasts and fashionistas. She said in an interview with i-D magazine that her shoe design influence originates from “a ’50s Cadillac meets Las Vegas neon aesthetic” - wow, I don’t even know I can digest that.

(Photo: Telegraph)

I find Atalanta’s work very inspiring. I mean, car parts?! Absolutely crazy but cutting edge. The above stiletto shoe was created from “reconfigured BMW parts while design collective TO22 sliced through the 1-series at an angle, creating a shimmering silver laser-cut hanging, backlit by red film lights, that worked well in the cavernous concrete space of the London location”. The metal spike heel and tyre-rubber sole combo is an instant killer formula. You know what my boy said, “It’s the only way you get boys to look at your shoes”.

HAH, well said. I’m going to chop up someone’s BMW tonight.
