Fash-E is Back from the Dead!

I love being corny. Anyway, Fash-E is officially back on the roll. Why the disappearance? I can’t live without some ‘drama’ in my life, can I? Well, life is such – there will always be hackers. I just wished they were better looking. Sit back, relax… I’ll be blogging soon.

Happy Birthday to Moi :)

Midnight calls. Birthday wishes. I feel blessed and contented with my life at the moment. I did not craft out a birthday wish-list this year like every other year. To be honest, I don’t need any more stuff. Need = Greed. I don’t need to be rich to prove that I’m successful. I don’t need to travel the world to be open up my eyes. I don’t need to be showered with roses to prove that someone loves me. I don’t need Louis Vuitton to make me satisfied (although it would be nice). I don’t need anything except true happiness within.

I wish for happiness for everyone else – no sadness or tears. I wish my family and friends to be healthy and strong. I wish that old lady I met yesterday will have food and love for her remaining days. I wish for less hate in this world. Thanks to everyone who wished me on Facebook, SMS and etc – you know who you are.

May all beings be well and happy! Happy Birthday to moi :D

Fash-Eccentric in ST Urban on 19 June 2009

I haven’t had time to scan the ST’s Urban article (dated 19 June 2009) which featured Singapore fashion bloggers. Noelle Loh contacted most of us for a photoshoot and interview – obviously, to talk about the fashion blogging phenomenon. The interview was much longer than what was published. I respect journalists for what they do for a living but I need to voice out my opinion on this article.

There is an on-going debate on credibility social media for the longest time. I don’t want to sound ‘petty’ but the quotes picked for this article showcased how bloggers are not qualified for ‘reporting’. I did say I’m not an expert but I do feel this article is in favour of traditional media. Read on and you’ll see why:

One such buzzed-about blogger is Singaporean Wai Xiao Wen, 26, who runs three-year-old blog Fash-Eccentric!.

Says the assistant director of external affairs at a school here: ‘I don’t think I’m qualified to be considered influential but I do think readers see us as alternative opinion leaders to the conventional media.’

Here’s another:

Still, some may face credibility problems.

Says Wai: ‘I don’t think editors and journalists fancy bloggers much. Most of them go, ‘Oh, I see,’ when I introduce myself as one and I’m not sure if they mean it positively.’

Well, the thing is we care about credibility but at the same time, we don’t have rules to abide by like journalists. Of course, both media should co-exists with one another – with very different purposes. Social media excels on immediacy and some even, accuracy. Traditional media provides insight and credibility. I think the article provides Singapore fashion bloggers a great exposure but at the same time – thank you for that. At the same time, I hope journalists can look at us as a peer in the industry – rather than treat us like amateurs (which I do get that feeling most of the time).

I rest my case.

Patience is a Virtue

There’s a flood coming…

Here’s my public apology to those who emailed me for the past week. I promise I’ll reply each and everyone of you in due time. Sorry if I haven’t RSVP-ed to the events. I didn’t have proper Internet access during my Taiwan trip. Thanks for your emails. Your patience is much appreciated.

Daily blogging will resume in no time.

Chase Away Swine Flu!

I have so much to blog about Japan – but I think I’ll take a break from it and focus on something else. I am worried about the swine flu possibly-global outbreak. My prayers go out to the victims and their families. Lesson learnt from 2003′s SARS: Prevention is better than cure. I am sure the Asian countries are more well-prepared this time. When I arrived in Changi Airport on Monday morning, all the screening systems were setup. I really appreciate Singapore’s efficiency to contain or prevent this pandemic.

To all the Swine Flu victims: GET WELL SOON AND STAY POSITIVE!

Fash-Eccentric and Fashion Nation

HURRAH!!! CONGRATS TO FASHION NATION TOO!!! YEAH!!!

So hard to contain my excitement. I literally screamed in the cab when I found out from Stephie from Fashion Nation. I just won the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition (shame on you, if you haven’t heard of it!). This is excellent news. I think I’m on a lucky streak this week since this is the second good news I’ve received two days in a row. 4D numbers, anyone?
