Red Carpet: 2008 Costume Institute Gala

All eyes are on yesterday’s annual, and very dramatic Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was a night of  glitz and glamour in the spirit of Paul Poiret, the “King of Fashion“. No doubt this is New York’s top red carpet event where celebrities play dress-up and showcase designer creations for style shutterbugs. The exhibit for the event is “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” - like totally cool (says The Fash-E Geek). You know this event is gonna be BIG when big names such as Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, and Cate Blanchett were hosting the event.

There are so so many gorgeous, breath-taking gowns - seriously, I don’t even know where to begin. I’m not going to waste my time posting the fuglies (I’ll leave that to Go Fug Yourself). In my opinion, these lovelies are Fash-E’s red carpet superheroes of the night:

Possibly my ultimate favourite. It’s almost an interpretation of Wonder Woman goes Hollywood glam. Christina Ricci looks super lovely in her “sheer coral and red Givenchy concoction”. Love the belt!

Ivanka Trump always made an impression on me - for not looking like her father, if you know what I mean. She looks angelic and goddess-like in this flowly J. Mendel gown. Love the jeweled head piece, that totallyEmmy  completes the look.

Lookin’ fabulous in sunshine yellow is Kate Mara in Zac Posen asymmetrical belted number. We see alot of ruffles, detailing and pleats in this red carpet. Kate really stood out from the rest and the limelight is definitely shining on her.

The new member of Gossip Girl, Michelle Trachtenberg gives a golden twist to the Grecian/Nautical one-shoulder dress with cute rope belt. I love the metallic gold touch - definitely a head-turner!

Emmy Rossum looks down-right sexy and stunning in this Phi lace mermaid gown. The silhouette fits her perfectly and as you know, I’m a big floral print fan. It has a corset, lingerie undertone to it which I find it very enticing.

Amber Valletta, one of the most beautiful women in the world - looks crazily pretty in her metallic champagne column gown with mock wings. This could be a classic red carpet piece - with a superhero touch.

Finally, an Asian presence! Zhang Ziyi plays safe in black but this Giorgio Armani couture number boasts “intricate cross-hatching, pinwheel florals, and sparkles adorn everything from head-to-toe”.

On the quirky side, Maggie Gyllenhaal gets playful with Peter Som resulting in “this poufy, strapless eggplant dress” with “ruched bodice, oversized bow, uneven hem, tulle — but it’s very Maggie!”. I absolutely, completely agree. Love the scarlett lips.

Mrs Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes - possibly the craziest lookin’ A-list star at the event. You know what? I absolutely dig this! It’s so refreshing to see her break-out of her sophisticated “I’m so clean and proper ever since I married Tom” into this “hot mess”! This strapless Giorgio Armani dress paired with cool cobalt pumps gets my two thumbs up!

Nothing compliments Miss Eva Longoria-Parker better than “curly pleated ruffles of her full-skirted aubergine Marchesa gown”. We say, gimme more ruffles!!

A classic mermaid gown, with feathery hem! Blake Lively looks awesome in this black Ralph Lauren gown and don’t we love those black gloves as well? Hmm, gloves in Singapore sounds tempting but ridiculous at the same time.

Diane Kruger went short and chic in this cute, flirty grey Chanel frock! She double rocked the look with hot pink heels and pink nails!! This is my inspiration look for the month. Grey and Pink - noted.

Jennifer Connelly steps out of the ‘gown’ zone and create a style of her own in Balenciaga. I love her stunning choker-like necklace resembling a peacock.

Currently the highest paid model, Gisele Bundchen stole the limelight in this hugging Versace gown. The silhouette is amazing and cuts in the right curves. I want that body, dammit!

Red Carpet: Dance of the Dragon

Dance of the Dragon starring Fann Wong, Jang Hyuk and Jason Scott Lee, premiered last Wednesday at The Cathay. The good thing is that the slight drizzle didn’t dampen the star-studded red carpet event. Let’s see who’s looking good strutting down the red carpet:

Fann Wong looks lovely in a black toga dress with a big fastener on her left shoulder. Anyone knows who she’s wearing? I like her drop earrings as well.

Andrea de Cruz with her best accessory, err… man accessory - Pierre Png. Now who says she needs slimming pills? I’m not sure about her red and purple colour combi, but I think her shiny purple/green heels rock!

Love the red cropped jacket! Lose the belt!

Andrea Fonseka looks pretty in pink. And, love the green butterfly flats!

Hmm, I don’t like her head to toe ’satin’ look - I mean, top to clutch to bottom? I don’t even approve the sheer lacy thing she’s wearing - so aunty!

Rebecca Tan of Fashion Forward is lookin’ casual chic in a tank top, jeans and boots. Nice.

Gucci Galore!

The Queen Bee of Pop, Madonna hosted “A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF” in NYC. Big names such as Tom and Katie, Demi and Ashton, Drew and Justin, Heidi, Salma, Gwyneth, Gwen *breathes*, Alicia Keys, and etc! Well, we can’t get enough red carpet in February. Here are the fashionistas:

Rihanna in GreenKatie in Red

Rihanna looks stunning in this green Gucci dress that really compliments her skin tone. Green “is” really her color. And, Katie Holmes looks quite ’spacy’ in this chic folded red dress by Gucci. I really dig this look. Very fashion forward.

Gwyneth in PinkLucy in Cute Black Bow Dress

Looking pretty in pink? Gwyneth Paltrow absolutely look divine in this cute mini. Must be the Estee Lauder ‘Pleasures’ look. To emphasize the “bow” trend, Lucy Liu bounced back from looking like a marshmallow at the Valentino couture show! She looks ultra cute in this sleek white dress with a black bow.

White. Blue. Grey. Screen Actors Guild Awards

We L-O-V-E red carpets! The glitz. The glamour. The designer gowns. The makeup. The hair. The trends. It’s so much fun! So who do we love, and who do we loathe? Here’s a quick summary of the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet (which we totally missed from this year’s Golden Globes):

Hot Trends off the Red Carpet!
as spotted by the Fabsugar girls.

White Beauties at SAG 2008

Despite the vibrant background of the 2008 SAG Awards red carpet, there were quite a number of Ice Queens present. Brittany Snow, Eva Longoria Parker, Ashley Tisdale, Teri Hatcher, and Christina Applegate all donned white washed gowns with twinkling embellishments, and perhaps started a new red carpet trend! But these ladies weren’t at all stone cold; they rocked ear-to-ear smiles and dazzled in their frosty looks. Glacier-icious! (source: Fabsugar)

Blue Beauties at SAG 2008

Thank goodness there’s no more reason to be depressed about the lack of red carpets. Nonetheless, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Andrea Bowen, Amanda Bynes, Jenna Fischer, and Marcia Cross all still brought the blues . . . and teals, and turquoises to the SAG red carpet. I can’t say I’m complaining — turquoise is my favorite color, after all. (source: Fabsugar)

Grey Ladies at SAG 2008

Grey is not a color usually associated with the red carpet but this year’s SAG Awards brought out the grey days. The leaders of the pack? Fab ladies Giuliana DePandi, America Ferrera, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Pompeo, and Olivia Wilde. From Grecian to asymmetrical, strapless to velvet, these dresses did not fade in the background like the gloomy hue usually does. In fact, some of the most eye-catching dresses came in shades of grey this year! (source: Fabsugar)

Spotted: Cloverfield Premiere

Finally! Cloverfield opens in Singapore. I’m watching this tonight after my meditation class - talk about a good scare after substantial peace and quiet. The excitement. The suspense. The unknown monsters. I simply can’t wait!

Here are the celebrities who walk down the Red Carpet in Hollywood:

Lindsay at Cloverfield Premiere

Lindsay Lohan graced the red carpet for the premiere of Cloverfield for the first public appearance since you-know-what. Blonde bombshell, eh.

Audrina and Lauren

Audrina Patridge and Lauren Conrad striking a pose at the premiere of J.J. Abrams‘ new monster movie, Cloverfield. I like Lauren’s dress, nice.

Spencer and Heidi

What is this? ‘The Hills‘ reunion? Anyway, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are “ON” again! For now, at least.

Bling! Chanel’s Night of Diamonds

Chanel’s Night of Diamonds

(from left: Blake Lively, Erin Wasson, Selma Blair, and Ellen Pompeo)

Don’t you love themed parties? It was a black and white affair at Night of Diamonds hosted by Chanel to launch their vintage jewelry collection. Hollywood stars graced the glitzy event and we’ve spotted the “no-nos” and the best dressed of the night.

Blake Lively of Gossip Girl: What’s going on, woman? She looks so frumpy in this ‘ugh’ dress. It makes her look old for her teenage years. Maybe she needs to gather more style tips from Gossip Girl stylist - you know what I mean.

Erin Wasson: She sports “a white Chanel dress first seen last year on Keira Knightley, but Wasson accessorises it with lots of bangles and a feathered hair piece which gives the outfit her own touch”.

Selma Blair: It’s the perfect little black dress with adorable rosettes, and her hair is just simply classy. Selma really rocks this Chanel dress.

Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy: Talk about playing dress-up! Inspired by the 30s ‘Great Gatsby era, I’ve to say she won ‘Best Dressed’ for the night. She “dazzled in a satin top with outsize bow detail and diamante-encrusted panelled skirt” and her hair is nicely crimped to complete the look. Bravo to the newly wed!

“Green” is the New Black

Keira Knightley in Atonement

Perhaps, it all started out with the newly-crowned “Best Film Costume of All Time”, the bias-cut emerald green dress worn by Keira Knightly in the highly-acclaimed film, Atonement designed by costume designer, Jacqueline Durran. Yes, you hear me. That dress beat classic favourites such as Marilyn Monroe’s white dress from The Seven Year Itch, and Audrey Hepburn’s black Givenchy dress from Breakfast At Tiffany’s in a survey by Sky Movies and British InStyle magazine.

How did that happen? You tell me. But, Fash-E! is seeing green on the Hollywood red carpets since late 2007. We say it’s a trend to watch out, fashionistas.

Same Same but Different?

If a dress looks good, it’s okay to share the spotlight. Jessica Alba and Mary J. Blige are both spotted in the emerald green strapless dress by Alexander McQueen. Both of ‘em had matching gold accessories. Very vintage-looking. I think they both look fabulous!

Beyonce in Zac Posen

Beyoncé steals the thunder in a stunning emerald green fishtail dress from the Zac Posen Resort 2008 collection at Movie Rock. I hope she can breathe properly in it.

Rihanna in Green

Rihanna’s sexy cleavage-baring fishtail green dress may resemble Beyonce’s - but she’s rocking it with sexy curls and Hollywood 50s glam makeup. I think she’s dazzling.

Christina’s Baby Green

New mummy, Christina Aguilera is glowing in this velvet green dress. Who says you can’t look sexy when you’re preggers? Hollywood really set a new standard for pregnant women. Take note.

Cannes Fashion Festival!

I keed, I keed… Cannes Film Festival 2007 (60th anniversary) is finally upon us and the opening movie is My Blueberry Nights starring Jude Law, Norah Jones, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weiz and more. The movie is directed by Wong Kar Wai (his first English debut) and I bring you the highlights of the red carpet and the opening.

What a vision! Kerry Washington, Gong Li and Andie MacDowell all look so lovely. I love Kerry’s Jeweled one shoulder strap and Gong Li looks great in that shade of green and Andie is all grace.

Bai Ling - the Asian Paris Hilton? definitely makes a statement in a pink dress. However, the color is rather reminiscent of pepto bismol and does not suit her well. I’d love to see Bai Ling in a graceful dress that is sexy but not too over the top. I mean, I can dream, right?

Elisabeth Hurley is another one who loves to dress really sexy (remember her safety pin held dress by Versace?). But in this red number, on the red carpet, she looks stunning.

Diane Kruger - I’m guessing that she announced the movie as she is seen on stage with a mic here. She looks really demure and lovely in this white lace number with just the right amount of pink.

Juliette Binoche. Maybe it’s the angle but the dress makes Juliette look very erm, rectangular? Doesn’t show off her curves at all.

Jude Law and Norah Jones look really good together on the carpet. I wonder if that will translate into on screen chemistry. Are the flash bulbs that bright that Jude has to wear sunglasses? Nice classic Ray Bans by the way.

Maggie Cheung - I can’t see the whole dress in this picture but the top half does not look good. But so good to see Maggie - she is a great actress.

Minnie Driver - Simple elegance!

Jude Law, Norah Jones, Wong Kar Wai and I’m guessing his wife.

Look how cute this picture is. The director is so happy and although his wife’s suit is nothing to scream about, look at how she is looking at him, all full of pride and joy. Altogether now - awwwwwwwww……
