Puma: Glam Up for the First F1 Night Race!

F1 fever is EVERYWHERE! We’re only TWO DAYS away from the first F1 night race in Singapore! Are you having a fashion dilemma yet? No worries, PUMA set the style for Singaporeans what to wear to this prestigious world’s first event at the “Rev Up Your Style” fashion and design show held on August 26th at VivoCity. I know, I’m very late in reporting events. Then again, it’s never too late to hit PUMA shops and plan your three-day outfits because you want to be comfortable and stylish at the same time. The big names who attended the show include Host Paula Malai Ali who opened the show by announcing the guests: Singapore’s youngest professional formula racing driver Hafiz Koh, MediaCorp Artiste Daren Tan and Jade Seah. Here’s a quick peek from the runway:

The fashion students of Raffles Design Institute set the runway alive with unique and revved up styles as they competed in four different teams, all striving to showcase PUMA’s passion for Motorsport and that unique Singaporean sense of style.

The judges were most impressed by Team 1 and their funky revved up styles and awarded them with attractive prizes from PUMA as well as watches from PUMA Time.

Did I see a pink belt? Nice!!

Say “cheesseeeee!” The judges. Let me present to you (from left): Lecture of Fashion Design Brian Forst, GM of PUMA Sports Singapore Sheryl Wong, Fashion Show Producer Daniel Boey and of course, the lovely Nominated Member of Parliament Miss Eunice Olsen.

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: AgResearch

AgResearch has been making the headlines for setting a model on fire and stabbing a mannequin. I’m not kidding. If you’re wondering who is AgResearch? This isn’t a fashion house. In fact, it’s a pastoral sector R&D organization – yes, bioscience and all the jazz. And, the AgResearch scientists were given the honour to “reveal some of the world-first fabrics they have invented which will feature in their runway show on Friday (September 19th)”. These ground-breaking fabrics are stab- and flame-resistant! I mean, this is the perfect combination of science and fashion. Also, I’m quite amazed by the runway show – check it out:

Wear this so crazy people can’t stab you.

What did I say? The fabrics look good right?

I. Am. Terminator.

Made from wool, mostly. Looks comfy, hurr?

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: Annah Stretton

Asian culture is the new Black. In Annah Stretton’s collection called Compliments 4 fish, her design and styling refers to “Asian culture and the art of Irezumi (full body tattoo)”. Maybe I’ve been influenced by Miami Ink – I never look at tattoos the same way again. In fact, I’m starting to appreciate body art and now, it has made its transition to modern-day fashion.

Bright colors. Knits. Layers. Mini dresses. Don’t you love the full body tattoo look?

The models look almost robotic-like. I’m Bionic Woman #1456.

This prolly my favourite. The halter neck dress with two koi fishes on the side.

We see alot of ruffles. Tattoos look very feminine. Where can I find this hosiery?

I don’t fancy army green. So I wouldn’t say these two blend with the rest.

Whoops! A model took a tumble at yesterday’s show. Damn heels!

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: Big, Bold & Edgy

The Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2008 continues. I’ve to say some of the designs are very innovative and different from what you’ll see from the big boys of New York and London. I always enjoy exploring new labels and designers from the youngest country in the world, New Zealand since I’ll be flying there again for Christmas! Let’s see what Day Three and Four have in-store for us:

Michael Pattison

Michael Pattison plays with the illusion of stripes, and goth-like style. I mean, just check out the hair – very Sun Goku from Dragon Ball Z! In my opinion, very edgy and sexy. I like!

Michael Pattison

Nyne

Nyne, a Hamilton-based label (where my boy is from!) debut their collection called Bring The Rain. Their style focuses on the “minimalist, deconstructed aesthetic” and also hailed as the local Helmut Lang. They say this collection is inspired by Transformers – which you can tell from the robotic-like structure of the clothing. Interesting.

Tav

Tav is pretty unique in its own little way. The construction of the collection is well-thought out. I like how the identity of the label is carried throughout the collection and you can easily tell which clothing is from Tav. And, the prints are pretty unique!

Yvonne Bennetti

Yvonne Bennetti is famous for her sexy frocks. And, I’ve to agree. She knows the woman’s body and curves. I like the whole 70s-style, very ‘Almost Famous‘ inspiration. Good to know we can dress like Penny Lane!

Lonely Hearts Club

They called this collection by Lonely Hearts Club, “motocross chic”. I don’t know muc about motocross but I do know young, funky and flirty! This collection is feminine and definitely for the young ones!

Zambesi

Zambesi has been around since 1979. Their label stood strongly to “its signature roots of black androgynous tailoring”. I like the combination of mustard and black for fall/winter. Nice. I’m making notes for my December trip.

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008: The Underdogs

Hail the fashion underdogs! I didn’t blog about New York Fashion Week or London Fashion Week because everyone is blogging about it! You don’t need another blog telling you how amazing Marc Jacobs‘ collection is. Right now, I’m turning everyone’s attention to Air New Zealand Fashion Week, NZ’s most glamorous event. It’s not as fashion-forward, or innovative as the big boys of fashion week – but you might find some gems hidden down under. Here are my favourites so far from Day One and Day Two:

Air NZ Fashion Week 2008 Begins: World

All the talk about New York and London. Why isn’t there any buzz about fashion from down under? Well, you might as well call me a Kiwi wannabe – since the Kiwi I am living with has been feeding me Vegemite and Burger Rings. Don’t forget my favourite Feijoa juice from Charlie’s! Why can’t they import Feijoa juice to Singapore *tsk*tsk* Anyway, the Air NZ Fashion Week began with bang as World presented a theatrical runway show that definitely blew my socks off. We usually don’t expect ‘crazy’ stuff from Kiwis but they proved us wrong. I love the Asian-inspired (I would like to think so) sculptural hair and the whimsical designs, and circus-like colours. Get your sunglasses ready:

Furry skirt! Orange sash belt! I don’t know why, but I love them.

Dark and sparkly. Black basics are going glam. What do you think?

I sense a BOW obsession here. Kinda like the idea of a bow bracelet.

The men are not spared from the BOWS! Red gloves? That’s kinky.

I love the pills stuck on the collar. And, are the boys carrying lady’s handbag?

OMFG. Jean Paul Gaultier 2008 Fall Couture.

Get ready for an explosion of neon, bright colours at this year’s Jean Paul Gaultier Fall Couture show! I’m in awed. In the cluttered fashion world, you need something crazy and bizarre to stand out from the crowd. JPG definitely nailed it this time. Bring out the drama with feathers, satin, leather – you name it. The models look like some fascinating deep-sea creatures with a hint of equestrian style.

Have you seen them in the deep sea?

WOW. I like.

Cage Skirt! (Hint to Susie Bubble & Wottoncool). Hope the collars are not real fur.

The beehive. Is he taking the cue from Amy Winehouse?

Err. I’m not loving these.

SFF08: cK Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2008

It’s a wrap at this year’s Singapore Fashion Festival. So far, we’ve seen a range of minimalistic designs from Qiu Hao, and Thomas Wee. And now, cK’s Creative Director, Kevin Carrigan. The cK Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection played with minimalism and simplicity. The colours are soft, “light tones of gray, taupe, pink, orange & blue (plus) plenty of white & champagne tones”. Scroll down and feast your eyes on what you’ve missed at yesterday’s show:

Bright Lights
There is so much to love about the fluidity of the fabric, and illuminating colours. As the models walked down, the pieces flow so beautifully, and seamlessly down the runway – you couldn’t help but gawk and fall in love with Kevin’s work.

Chic & Short
cK
is all about the everyday woman. It’s chic, sophisticated and wearable for the urban fashionista. I particularly love these two tube dresses, especially the one in grey hue, and strappy heels.

Pretty in Pink
I love pink – but not excessively. This is an excellent example for the usage of such a bold colour, for a simple design. Clean lines, which I totally love.

Black Dress, Bright Shoes
Oh yes, I heart those strappy shoes! Another innovative lil’ black dress which I can’t get enough of. This season redefined the classic black dress for spring/summer – just add a splash of colours to your feet and you’re ready for summer.

Sparkle ‘n’ Dazzle
These cute dresses definitely jazz up the evening! I love the babydolls even though the sparkling effect might prove to be too much for some.

Gorgeous Grey
There is something elegant and unique about cK’s separates. I particularly love the off-shoulder grey piece that exudes a certain confidence through its design.

Not Your Average Black Number
Yes, more black dresses. I think I’m going through a phase! To be honest, I don’t think I owned the perfect lil’ black dress. I’m going to start my lil’ black dress collection and nobody can stop me!

Hint: I finished my examsss! *skips around in pink bunnie slippers* It’s freedom for the next 3 weeks.
