HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Hong Kong Polytechnic University MA Graduate Show

The final show of the first day of Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011 is the Hong Kong Polytechnic University MA Graduate show. 12 graduates showcased six key looks from their respective collections at the MA Graduate show. It is gratifying to see the various point of views and techniques in their designs. My favourites include Ayan Chan‘s Femiman collection, Alicia Jiang‘s When Knitting Meets Deconstruction and I’m absolutely dying for Ruby Gan‘s skeletal print maxi dress. There are a couple experimental, questionable designs but I applaud the skills and techniques applied to the designs. You can expect great stuff from these young designers! Visit my Facebook Page for the full photo coverage of the show:

HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: “Into The Light” by Hong Kong New Design Force

The first fashion show I attended at the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011 is “Into The Light” by Hong Kong New Design Force. The presentation featured 12 fashion collections by designers – basically, winners or finalists in the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. I strongly feel that we do need to breathe in a little fresh air and see what’s beyond commercialism and labels. It’s so mind-boggling to see what these young minds can conceptualize without the business pressure. Visit my Facebook Page for the full photo coverage:

Love the Japanese slippers x socks combi :)

Dark wings of desire?

The HK-ers love awkward volume and odd silhouette.

LOVE The pastel colour blocking is so hawt.

Men in white?

The white army. Possibly one of my favourites!

Lennon-glasses and check out those platforms!

Bizarre or Inventive?

What’s a fashion show without the drama?

HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Day Two

It’s my final day at the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011! Rise and shine, all the overseas journalists attended the Joint Overseas Journalist Breakfast Meeting at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It’s my first time at such events and I was briefed by my pal, Belvis from Spain that this is the best chance to meet and speak to the designers/marketing personnel in person about their designs or products. INTERESTING! I met the lovely Coney Ko from TAKA, a local jewellery design company in Hong Kong to talk about her vintage inspiration for her latest collection. Besides, I met Yume, founder of Yume Kokoro Jeans from Japan who introduced his custom-made jeans for all shapes and sizes. This new sizing system for jeans is ingenious so everyone can find their perfect fit. I also had a wonderful chat with Kenny Au of AMKA Design who designs customized rings and other goodies as wedding gifts and other special occasions. In order to check-out of my amazing Duke Suite and catch the airport shuttle, Day Two was a short but sweet day at the HKCEC. I wish I had more time! It was nice meeting the folks from HKTDC and also the overseas journalists – and always sad to say goodbyes. Till next time! Stay tuned for my blog posts on the fashion shows.

I’m wearing this amazing jumpsuit from Lefranc Ferrant S/S 2011. Thanks to Rouge World!

Belvis speaking the folks from Betty Smith (Japan).

TAKA jewellery by Coney Ko.

Vintage elegance. You can find TAKA at 16A Aberdeen St, Central in Hong Kong (SOHO).

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hook earring!

This is the pretty Coney Ko wearing her own design.

Yume Kokoro Jeans. Yume, himself is showing me how the sizing system works.

This is how you measure your waist at the store and get your custom-made jeans in ONE WEEK!

You can literally customized ‘almost’ everything according to your liking.

Down to the little details – cool or not? Be your own jeans designer!

I hop by the RSH (Hong Kong) Ltd table to check out the Ipanema x Gisele Bundchen new ‘Butterfly’ collection.

These rings by AMKA Design is made from various materials: Yellow Quartz, Jade (‘A’ Grade), Diamonds and other semi-precious gems.

HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Day One

It’s DAY ONE at HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011! It’s not the ‘kind’ of fashion week you expect – in fact, it’s actually an annual trade exhibition for buyers, manufacturers and designers. This year, there are 1,302 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions at the HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer (4 – 7 July 2011). I was invited to experience the trade show as well as attend a few fashion shows by the HK New Design Force presentation and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University graduation show on the first day.

It’s definitely an eye-opening experience to see how buyers and manufacturers work (in particular, penetrating the Mainland Chinese market) in the fashion industry. Behind the glitz and glamour, it’s real BUSINESS. I also met a few overseas journalists during this trip and made a few friends – which is always a treat. Here is a photo diary of my first day at HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011:

Day One! I’m wearing a pink dress from Lefranc Ferrant S/S 2011 collection. Thank you Rouge World!

A dedicated Media & Webcast Centre for the overseas journalist. This is our station for the entire week.

Oh yeah, everyone is working hard and checking emails.

I feel like a ‘REAL’ journalist. My name on a dedicated mail box *touch*

I can’t get enough of this space! We even have a pantry.

I attended the inauguration of the Indian Pavilion by Apparel Export Promotion Council (India). Bollywood anyone?

I went to check out the exhibition and I’m impressed by some of the designs! Will blog about my favourites soon.

Then I went to the House Show by HK New Design Force. It was amazing! Avant-garde, baby!

There are some wearable designs besides the experimental pieces.

Later in the evening, I attended the Networking Reception with Belvis (from Spain) and Zia (from Indonesia).

I’m wearing a TIBI dress from TANG+Co by TANGS.

My friend, Irene who lives in HK came to visit at the Media Centre!

I love the sequin details on her vest from her own fashion line called Cut It Out. Watch this space!

For the final show of the night: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University graduation show.

Featuring six outfits from 12 selected graduating students of the Master of Arts in Fashion and Textile Design. Some are mind-blowing, some are questionable.

Congratulations to the graduates!

HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011: Regal Hongkong Hotel

It has been one week since my trip to Hong Kong for HK Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011. This week has been crazy since I got back (hence, the lack of updates!). Let’s begin – the story of my HK adventure. This is my 8th time to Hong Kong, land of delicious dim sum and ultimate shopping. The folks at HKTDC arranged a seamless airport transfer and hotel stay at the 5-star deluxe Regal Hongkong Hotel located at the heart of Causeway Bay (88 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay). I was put up at the amazing Duke Suite (yes, a freaking suite!) at the 29th floor – highest room floor at the hotel! Super spoilt! The British-colonel styled suite comes with a king-size bed, huge bathroom with two vanity sinks and aerospa bathtub, living room, dining space and a working desk. How can I nottttt love this? The best part about the hotel is that it is like two seconds away from my favourite HK food of all time: Mak’s Noodles. Plus, shopping is a breeze at Causeway Bay. I stayed in the area for the entire Sunday, to be honest. Here are some photos from my suite:

Outside Regal Hongkong Hotel.

Checking out the lobby. Everything looks so British chi-chi.

The view from my Duke Suite (I can’t stop saying it, “Duke Suite, Duke Suite…”

A big bed for me, myself and I.

From the living area to my room. So you get a sense of direction, if you know what I mean.

Living area with dining area plus work desk. Look how old-school everything looks! I feel like a Queen.

I’ve been up and about since 6:00am in the morning. Pardon the bun-up hair.

BUT, I’m ready for some serious shopping! HK, here I come!

Hello Hong Kong Fashion Week 2011!

The countdown begins! THREE more days to Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011! HKTDC invited me to one of my favourite cities, Hong Kong for their Spring/Summer 2011 fashion week. I’ll be in Hong Kong from Sunday onwards to attend a few shows on Monday and Tuesday. I’m excited to catch “Into The Light” by Hong Kong New Design Force and the other shows. To be honest, I do not know what to expect but I’m sure it would be an awesome experience. Follow my Facebook Page or Twitter for ‘live’ comments and pictures from Hong Kong.

Fash-HK: b + ab SS2011 Collection

Inspired by Japanese young women’s chic style, b + ab is one of my favourite HK brands to shop at whenever I’m in Hong Kong. I never failed to grab a couple of items from their shop. This time, I just want to buy everything from their SS2011 collection! I want unlimited printed harem pants, floral prints, maxi dreses, sheer tops and cropped tops (only with unlimited funds!). Hong Kong model AngelaBaby designed a capsule collection for SS2011 called “Hawaii Summer” which is adorable – but I didn’t buy anything from her collection, hehe. I love and bought from the High Fashion line – which is slightly more expensive but love love love their stuff. If only they sell their stuff online, I would just buy everything, every season!

AngelaBaby x b + ab SS2011 collection. She’s such a doll!

From the High Fashion Line, I bought this pair of sheer harem pants.

The white version.

Super loveeeeee!!!

adidas is all in! Event in Hong Kong

Everytime I visit Hong Kong, I feel right at ‘home’. I don’t know if it’s the dimsum or the fact that I speak Cantonese. I love Hong Kong, really. So I tagged along with the troop to adidas is all in! event at the rooftop car park of Harbour City. This is the Hong Kong chapter to launch the new adidas global campaign – similar to the recent adidas Sport Style Day which I attended in Singapore. I love that the party happens inside a giant adidas “shoe box” – haha.

I spotted some Hong Kong celebrities such as Angelababy, JJ Lin (ok, he’s Singaporean), Charlene Choi and Eason Chan. So nothing really happened for two hours so we left (before seeing Daniel Wu!) – yeah, it was pretty boring. Anyway, I don’t think Daniel Wu came – trying to tell myself that, really.

Me, Katherine and Debby – strike a pose!

The giant “shoe box” – that’s where the party started.

Inside the “shoe box”, local bands were jamming. I didn’t like the drink coupon idea – so high school.

Famous model (I can’t remember her name!) and her boyfriend (also a model, so unfair).

Singer JJ Lin an one half, no-scandal Twin – Charlene Choi.

Charlene is more affectionately known as ‘Ah Sa’ in HK.

I’m no competition for these HK paparazzis. Afterall, I was there to enjoy myself :D

Marie Claire Best Label Award 2010/2011 in Hong Kong

The good folks from Coach HK invited me to the Marie Claire HK ‘Best Label Award’ 2010/2011 event at Harbour City, Hong Kong last Thursday. It was my 2nd HK event and boy, the emcees talked really fast! I guess the Hongkongers don’t waste any time to get the event going. Coach won the Best Handbag award – yay! HK model Kathy Chow and singer Edmond Leung were the celebrities present at the event – gotta see some paparazzi action! Here are some snapshots from the event:

Coach won ‘Best Handbag’ at Marie Claire Best Label Award 2010/2011

Alain Mikli won Best Eyewear.

Samsonite won ‘Best Luggage’.
