Flower Power with Nike Womens

Talk about Spring fever! The chic & fashionable are going floral, and Nike is jumping on the bandwagon as well. With the blooming buzz, the girls will be jumping on these Nike collaboration with “Liberty Fabric Company” Dunk Highs when they hit the stores on 10th May 2008. Which one do you like?

I like the subtle, tiny violet flowers - but I prefer to make a louder statement.

This is moreee my style! I love cute red/pink poppies-like flowers. Can’t wait to see the real thing.

Trendspotting: Go Speed Racer!

Fan Girl alert! This summer is going to be crazzzyy. As you know, my first love is filmmaking/movies (that’s why I’m in the business) then it’s design (fashion, product, you name it). I’m a film buff, but not a snob - I dig summer blockbusters, especially comic adaptations, cartoon remakes whatever. I love the occasional obscure, indie films - but I can’t be watching depressing, f-up films all the time no?

Right now, I’m counting down the days to Wachowski Brothers’s SPEED RACER! OMG, the screenshots are amazing, and the trailer is freakin’ mind-blowing! I’ve been humming the song all week. I mean these guys revolutionize The Matrix in 1999. I tell you, the Wachowski Bros are back in business. I’m sooo lovin’ the styling for the film and the costumes are crazy - check it out:

Red gloves, anyone? I love Trixie’s (played by Christina Ricci) hair. It’s uber-chic. And the scarlett lips.

In the candy-coloured world, we love sparkly bits, hoop earrings and hot short-shorts.

1… 2… GO!

Ooh, don’t you dig Speed’s (played by Emile Hirsch) retro white racing jacket? Trixie’s hot pink tank top is so cute! Also, check out her interesting eye-makeup (although I’m not a beauty expert - I think it’s awesome).

I see pink everywhere. Pink headphones! Pink leather seats! Pink lips. Pink seat belts! Nice sunnies too.

I like the way they do Susan Sarandon’s hair. Bright colours is the key.

I love her sparkly top that matches her smile!

I heart Trixie. Christina Ricci is back, ladies and gentlemen!

Next up… How to dress ‘Speed Racer‘ style :)

Trendspotting: Hippie Headbands

You know what’s hot? I’m seeing hippie headbands making waves in fashion blogs and lookbooks. I can tell you that I’m absolutely digging this style. It’s a simple accessory that adds a vintage touch and brings out the bohemian princess in you! Forget about thick, colourful headbands ala Gossip Girl - because the 60s are back to style your lovely mane.

(Photos: Littledoe)

Based on Lulu of Everybody is Ugly’s recommendation, Littledoe is an amazing fashion discovery! It makes be want to wear a unique headpiece like tomorrow (if I get my hands on one, or… DIY!). The lookbook is sooo beautiful, and it has such a surreal look or treatment. Anyway, Littledoe headpiece is “one of a kind and entirely handmade from the highest quality antique materials”. Do contact them if you want your very own.

(Photos: Fashion Toast)

Rumi from Fashion Toast also sported a thin braided hippie-like headband for her vintage eBay shop, Treasure Chest Vintage. She’s prolly one of the more stylish fashion bloggers around - and I really like her sunshine-kissed skin tone and long blonde hair. Sigh, I wish my hair is longer. Another thing about hippie headbands - they do look better on silky long hair. Adds to the bohemian flavour.

Here’s an example of headband crime commited by our dear Mary-Kate Olsen when she wore an 60s-inspired Marc Jacobs headband from his Fall ‘08 collection. The fashion forward Olsen, basically jumpstarted the trend - in a rocky and err… furry fashion. When Rock.The.Trend blogged about this, I thought maybe I couldn’t get used to the idea of a furry headband - on a hindsight, I think it’s fug-ing fugly. I like my hippie headband thin, and pretty - not like some roadkill.

Here’s a weekend D-I-Y project for moi: Create my own Hippie headband. Anyway, Happy Labour Day! Woot.

I Heart Zac Posen’s Strapless Bubble Dress

(Photo: Net-A-Porter)

Hope Robertson said, “This dress design is an ode to summer – meant to look like the sky — and I’d say the blue and frothy print of this Zac Posen creation even resembles the sea.” It couldn’t be described better. I think the uneven bubble hem is ingenious. Net-A-Porter styled it with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Chloé bag and a Philippe Audibert bracelet.

Available at Net-A-Porter at £2,368, the editor quiped “this divine Zac Posen dress seizes upon the idea and transfers it to a modern evening silhouette with brilliant result”.

As seen on Agyness Deyn on the runway and the fabulous, Rachel Bilson, the dress is definitely captivating and eye-catching. I think Rachel Bilson looks absolutely sweet and gorgeous with dark tights and black heels. And, I love her new hair! This is my favourite look of the season. What’s yours?

H&M loves Marimekko

Photographer: Liselotte Watkins (Illustrator)

Everyone squealed/cheeered/screamed over H&M’s recent confirmed collaboration with Comme des Garçons. Let’s talk about the H&M’s Tribute to Marimekko collection that hits the stores recently on 10 April. The Finnish textile and fashion house, Marimekko is the latest addition to H&M’s list of high-profile collaborators. For this highly anticipated collection, Marimekko used “some of their extensive back catalogue of patterns from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s” to create a range of “floaty tunics, skirts and dresses and for men there will be shirts and shorts”.

Margareta Den Bosch, H&M head of design said, “The summer collection 2008 will be joyfully fresh like a vitamin injection”. Famous for their striking bold clean prints, it was First Lady cum fashion icon, Jackie Kennedy that “put Marimekko on the international map when she wore their dresses during her husband’s 1960 presidential campaign”. I’m digging the vintage-cut swimsuit (see above)… sweet.

The tribute collection boasts “perfect combinations of red and pink; olive and orange; red and turquoise; red, white and black”. Think psychedelic, baby! I love the high-waisted poufy skirt with loud graphics. Definitely very 60s. Did you notice they pair everything with a simple ankle-gladiator sandals?

This collection uses a mixture of fabrics such as cotton, jersey, cotton/silk mix. It’s going to be very comfy for a breezy summer lovin’. I like the idea of standing out from the crowd - this collaboration is a cross between modernizing vintage fabrics.

If you’re afraid to experiment with colours, you can stick with the monochromatic colours - black & white. The crazy swirls reminded me of IKEA fabrics - but of course, it’s not.

Did I mention I’m going to Hong Kong realllllyyy soon? First stop, H&M

Carla Bruni: The First Lady of Chic

One week ago, Moe Moe was candidly chatting with me about how chic Carla Bruni, First Lady of France. I couldn’t agree more. She is definitely a “fashionable” addition to the dead-pan boring political landscape. This Italian singer/songwriter/model was making headlines since her whirlwind romance with President Nicolas Sarkorzy was reported in late 2007 - and since their wedding, the pair were inseparable. All tongues are wagging about the most-talkabout couple, Bruni-Sarzokzy - and Fash-E can’t stop ogling at her ultra-sophisticated outfits styled by John Galliano, for Christian Dior.

Glamourous Grey
Carla Bruni
has transformed from an artsy ingenue to the epitome of class and sophistication - bringing ‘chic’ to world politics. For once, fashionistas are paying the well-deserved attention to the much-neglected fashion market. Guardian reported that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has appointed Bruni to “spearhead a government initiative aimed at injecting more style and glamour into British national life”. Don’t you think she makes grey looked like the most stylish colour? I love the ribbed wool suit and also the grey wool jersey dress and navy coat. Also, how cute is that tilted beret?

(Photo: Telegraph UK)

Lovely Evenings
We haven’t seen much fashion action since Princess Diana or Jackie O. Thank goodness for Carla Bruni! When you’re the President’s wife, you will internalise the savoir faire required for grand banquets and events. She was seen wearing a “gorgeous silk muslin bustier gown in Bordeaux red to a banquet at the Guildhall”. Also, a gown “which featured a bodice with a waterfall of ‘mille feuille’ ruffles, topped the midnight blue bias cut dress she wore to the state banquet the previous night”. Definitely highfalutin’!

(Photo: Telegraph UK)

The Colour Purple
The first ladies, Sarah Brown and Carla Bruni walked in style - but of course, Bruni rocked the colour - purple. She looked strikingly beautiful in her flashy purple coat among the greys and blacks. It seems like all eyes were on Bruni when she took off her purple coat. She also donned a purple slip dress that makes her such an eye candy before her husband’s speech.

Shoes Shoes Shoes
What shoes does the First Lady wear? Flats! A staple in Bruni’s wardrobe. You may ask, where are the heels? I guess love conquers all - she is willing to give up stilettos for flats to match her vertically-challenged husband. Another Tom-Nicole case. That’s why I don’t date men shorter than me, haha. Her black Dior pumps are soo cute and elegant - not to mention the classic black leather handbag, called The Babe . Anyone notice that Sarkozy is wearing stacked heels?

Bring on the Union Jack
I want this bag! Can someone tell me where she got this from? Hail the Union Jack! Why can’t the Malaysian flag be more interesting as a design element?

Lovin’ Lipstick Jungle

I’m so glad that I finally have time to catch up with my TV shows since New Zealand. I know Gossip Girl will be starting soon (yes!)… and Cashmere Mafia’s future isn’t looking too bright. Alas, I’ve managed to watch the most talk-about TV show (or Cashmere Mafia’s arch rival) by the mother of ‘Sex and the City‘, Candace Bushnell - Lipstick Jungle. Oh yeah, more pretty clothes, sex, scandal, relationship hiccups and hot men (do I sense a Mr. Big equivalent?)… I mean how can I not be ecstatic right? My verdict (after 3 episodes): I love it, but it’s not Sex and the City. Nothing to date seems comparable to the hit TV series - not even Cashmere Mafia. But, I see potential in Lipstick Jungle. The show is starting to grow on me. And I’ll tell you why:

No. 1 Girl Crush: Victory Ford (played by Lindsay Price)

NBC said that, “This sexy new drama follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game.” I am forming a girl crush on Victory Ford, played by Lindsay Price (Beverly Hills 90210, Coupling) - just look at her. She’s soooooo pretty! Her exotic good looks originated from her Korean/German/Irish/American heritage and I seriously can’t stop looking at her. And of course, she wears the cutest clothes in the show! She plays a fashion designer so technically, she should be wearing the most trendy and chic clothes among the girls.

Victory Ford: Girly & Chi-Chi

From Episode One, I heart the thick red head band that she was wearing to her runway show at Bryant Park. Her style almost parallel with Blair’s from Gossip Girl which is very classy and at the same time, fun and chic. The pink bubble dress she wore for her date with mysterious billionaire is sooo adorable

Victory Ford: Smart & Classy

Victory gets down to serious business when necessary. Her free-spirited character adds some laughs and smiles. Her facial expressions is so animated when she’s all wired up by some crazy drama. Don’t we love dramas? Well, especially when we’re not involved in it. I love the way she accessorize with layers and layers of pearls over the sleek white shirt-blouse. And, I love pink… and I can’t emphasize enough how much I love that dress on her.

Victory & Joe: Love is All You Need

Joe is kinda like Mr. Big but he cares ‘more’ and he’s bossy. So he’s the man in Victory’s life right now… I don’t know about him. He can be charming at times, but he doesn’t exudes sexual tension like Chris Noth playing Mr. Big. You know… I don’t know. He doesn’t make me wanna push him against the kitchen counter (ok, this ends here). But they make a cute couple (been using the word ‘cute’ alot hurrr). Her style is impeccable.

Nico Reilly (played by Kim Raver)

I’m not going to mention Brooke Shields character because there is nothing worth mentioning. The other character that caught my attention is Nico Reilly played by Kim Raver (24) who is editor-in-chief for Bonfire magazine (Think Vanity Fair). And, she’s hungry for some real meat. I love the coats she wears in the show - her style is clean, professional, confident and very fierce. You know you don’t wanna mess with her. And, she’s sleeping with the hottest guy on the show. I present to you…

Kirby Atwood (played by Robert Buckley)

One word: YUMMY. Half of the time, he’s not wearing a shirt. He’s hot and steamy over Nico - how can you not enjoy this? My boyfriend claimed that I was watching soft porn - haha. Forget Mr. Big equivalent. We want young, hot meat… err, I mean men.

Trendspotting: Seeing Stripes

You hear me, STRIPES are back this spring & summer! The nautical look is back - BIGGER and bolder. So, are you hopping onboard on this trend alert? I remember growing up and reading some random magazine that said you can’t wear stripes unless you know your body shape. Horizontal stripes make you look fat - thus, an absolute no-no. Vertical stripes make you look taller if you’re petite. Kiss the rules goodbye, because stripes are fabulous and these hot celebrities will show you how:

(Photo: OMG! Yahoo)

Asymmetrical strips will naturally slim down your body - it’s all about optical illusion. The lovely Becky Newton looking very retro in her couture gown, whereas mummy J.Lo looks super hot in knee-high boots and a sleek black hat. Are we seeing more black & white?

(Photo: OMG! Yahoo)

My favourite girl crush, Kate Moss is sporting stripes too! As Glamour’s No. 1 best-dressed women list of 2008, Kate Moss is definitely worth the close-watch and if she’s wearing stripes, then it must be trendy! Michelle Trachtenberg looks stunning in this stripey frock which I personally think is very pretty! She makes horizontal stripes look enticing, and elegant.

I heart stripes! Don’t you?
