Like Colin McDowell said, “Nothing beats watching a fashion show in real life”. This is the same reason why I keep coming back to AFF year after year.

It was pretty much a full house. Everyone is here to watch MUGLER A/W 2012 show for the first time in Singapore.

The MUGLER A/W 2012 started with slow, floating models and ended in a blink of an eye.

After one Instagram update and two lousy photos (haha), the show was over in 7 minutes.

After the show, we popped over the Red Dot Museum for the Belvedere Vodka Official Audi Fashion Festival 2012 After Party with MUGLER featuring The Misshapes and Michaelangelo L’Acqua. Let me tell you, the music was awesome! Apparently, three Korean celebrities (Lee Hye Young, Cha Jeong An and Uhm Jung Hwa) popped by and left in a jiffy.

The Misshapes started spinning around midnight and everyone went bananas over Leigh Lezark. Nicola Formichetti turned up about the same time and partied hard with fellow fashion fans and I love how he happily obliged to take photographs with everyone. Such a rock star!

I particularly love when Formichetti spoke about the correlation between money and creativity. There is a lot of money in Singapore and that can sometimes stifle creativity (how true!) because you can buy everything and you don’t think harder to solve ‘problems’. You can already buy solutions. I used to work in an arts university – and this is the constant struggle we faced when dealing with ‘authorities’ with plenty of money to invest in creativity. BUT, they don’t understand that you can’t simply invest in people and force them to produce magic.

Finally, I freshen up for the big gala night, Audi Red Carpet Night 2012 at Tent@Orchard. What more can I ask for? I was seated at Table 10 next to Formichetti‘s table together with the media and I am all excited to see CoSTUME NATIONAL A/W 2012 collection walk the runway. Let’s not forget the beautiful food served by The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The night kicked off with an amazing laser, violin performance followed by the Audi Star Creation 2012 winners showcase. The highlight of the night has to be CoSTUME NATIONAL A/W 2012 show (see my video below for the final walk) as well as the first look of the Audi R8 GT Spyder. What a beauty! The night ended with Julia Abueva belting out Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and Katy Perry’s Fireworks – of course, Formichetti and his friends stood up and cheered for the Spring Awakening star!

Ahh, next up… the opening show for Audi Fashion Festival 2012. Yes, fashion week has officially started.

Minimalism with sexy cuts. CoSTUME NATIONAL A/W 2012 absolutely wowed the crowd.

Inspired by the post-punk period, models strutted down the runway to the pumping music of Joy Division.

CoSTUME NATIONAL A/W 2012 painted the runway in hues of black, navy, grey and a splash of white.

I love the androgynous, post-punk vibe from the collection – and surprisingly, wearable pieces.

The three winners of the Audi Star Creation 2012 showcased their collection last night. Each of them won SGD10,000 from Audi Singapore. Plus, Roderic Wong from China was named Audi Young Designer Award 2012 and received an additional SGD10,000. Congratulations to Ko Youngji (South Korea), Soravit Kaewkamon (Thailand) and of course, Roderic Wong (China).  I was seated a little far from the stage – and my camera couldn’t catch a clear photo of the winners.

Audi Singapore revealed the Audi R8 GT Spyder last night and there are only three available in Singapore.

Alright, how can I resist a photo opportunity with Nicola Formichetti and his Nico Panda iPhone case?

Mr. Ennio Capasa, Designer and Creative Director of Italian avant-garde label, CoSTUME NATIONAL spoke to a small group of journalists and one blogger (guess who?) this morning before tonight’s Audi Red Carpet Night at Tent@Orchard. This is the first time that CoSTUME NATIONAL is presenting their collection in Singapore and let’s see what the man has to say before the big night. Capasa shared his earliest memory on his love for fashion and how it all began. At six, Capasa stripped off his uniform in school because he didn’t like it, and his psychiatrist advised his mother to let him be as uniforms would “damage him”. He never wore uniforms since then. What a great story!

Capasa is all about minimalism and clean lines with a little rock ‘n’ roll. He believes that one should “enjoy fashion when you can use it” – just like Prozac. “If you feel a bit down or sad, then you buy a beautiful dress or shoes and your mood changes. You are happier,” said Capasa. Of course, fashion is less dangerous than Prozac. What I admire about Capasa is his approach to fashion and the topic of sustainability and eco-fashion. Firstly, the man created the ‘Solar Bag’ in 2009 which received  the “Chi é Chi Award” for the best eco-friendly fashion product. He believed that the industry needs to change its approach on fashion and be more conscious about the planet.

CoSTUME NATIONAL has recently expanded in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo. It will be a matter of time before the label reaches our shores. Till tonight, I’ll be tweeting and Facebook-ing ‘live’ from Tent@Orchard. Stay tuned.

1. Everyone can attend Audi Fashion Festival 2012 (16 – 20 May, Wednesday – Sunday)

Who says Audi Fashion Festival 2012 is only invited guests? Tickets for most shows including the opening show (Mugler A/W 2012) and closing show (Roland Mouret A/W 2012) are sold via Gatecrash. Both shows cost SGD120 each excluding booking fee but you can get a 10% discount if you use your Mastercard for payment. Good news, tickets for both shows are still available! I am lucky to be invited to all the shows this year. FYI, I used to buy my tickets back in the days and they are definitely worth the buck!

2. Shop Till You Drop at Blueprint Emporium (19 – 20 May, Saturday and Sunday)

The first time I attended Blueprint… I didn’t know what it was! For you and me, all we need to know is the Blueprint Emporium. Period. Explore local and emerging designers such as Carrie K, DEPRESSION, By Invite Only, evenodd, Desti Saint, LIQUID by max tan, Mae Pang and many more. I’m curious to browse through collections from designers from around the globe such as Sue Comma Bonnie, Timo Weiland, Yeojin Bae, Yuki Mitsuyasu and DEBB. And of course, shopping always comes first. Make sure you bring enough cash and bargain *eh-hem*!

3. Party Hard at the After-Parties. Just Because.

Alright, who likes to party hard? The night doesn’t end after Audi Fashion Festival – the party continues all the way to 2am! New York’s The Misshapes, comprising Leigh Lezark, Geordon Nicol and Greg Krelenstein and W Hotels Worldwide Global Music Director Michaelangelo L’Acqua, will be headlining the Belvedere Vodka Official Audi Fashion Festival 2012 After Party With Mugler tomorrow night. This is a by-invite-only event at a secret venue *ssshhh* – but the question is, “Who’s crashing?”

If you missed this invite, do catch Miami DJ Patrick Oliver at Pangaea on Thursday, May 17th for the AFF 2012 After-Party (SGD40 cover charge at the door). Who knows, you might just bumped into Nicola Formichetti – he will still be around! 1. Francfranc makes life happier. Period.

2. Francfranc stores are all about style.

Did you know that most Francfranc stores are designed by Mr. Yasumichi Morita, Designer & President of GLAMOROUS co., ltd – including the 20,000 sqft flagship store at Vivocity? Morita-san is a rock star. He walked into BALS headquarters in a sharp Chanel tweed jacket, Hermès scarf and Christian Louboutin shoes. A man with such immaculate taste can only create magic such as Francfranc Aoyama store, also known as Francfranc Village (see picture below). Morita-san walked through his design concept for the largest Francfranc store at Vivocity called Francfranc Wonderland. Think Alice in Wonderland as patrons walked into a world of wonder with chairs twice their size! I can’t wait to preview the new Vivocity store when it opens in early June.

Be amazed by the creative warehouse-like space at Francfranc Village. You can’t miss the humongous chandelier hanging above.

What did I say? The man is a rock star, alright.

3. Francfranc makes products for the young, fashionable women.

It’s true. Since the beginning, Francfranc has always been designing for young women in their 20s and 30s with the aim of creating a fun and trendy lifestyle. Francfranc offers a variety of products from eight categories such as kitchen and table, fabric (curtains), hobby and culture, kitchen fabric (aprons, tea towels), beauty and health (soap, bath products, scents), furniture (sofas, cupboards), lightings (including other electrical appliances) and interior accessories (art, photo frames and clocks). You can expect new, fun products every season – Spring, Summer and Cruise or stick to the basics with Francfranc Standard line. Let’s not forget the current Francfranc collaboration with Disney.

4. BALS headquarters is a dream.

No surprises who designed BALS headquarters – Mr. Yasumichi Morita, of course. I’m such a fan of his work. I mean, just look at the Pantry Room! I remember thinking, “Gosh, I could seriously work here”. Hire me, please!

5. Francfranc’s siblings are awesome too.

FYI. I didn’t just visit Francfranc stores in Tokyo. In fact, I popped by a few other sister stores such as BALS Tokyo (a luxurious, high-end home furnishing label), J-Period (old-meets-new Japanese lifestyle label) and WTW (laidback, surfer lifestyle label). I ended up a couple bits and pieces from each store. In case you’re wondering how the stores look like, here are some photos from my trip:
