Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture: Raf Simon’s Delightful Debut

The House of Dior has been saved. All eyes are on the newly appointed Raf Simon, the House’s fifth designer since Christian Dior himself. Eight powerhouse designers – Alber Elbaz, Pierre Cardin, Stefano Tonchi, Franca Sozzani, Marc Jacobs, Donatella Versace, Azzedine Alaia and Diane von Furstenberg showed their support at Simon’s highly anticipated show. The guests were greeted with 30,000 flowers but it was the spectacular haute couture collection that stole the show by the end of the day. The avant-garde designer proved that he can do more by transforming the House of Dior. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a new era of haute couture. His modern interpretation of Christian Dior‘s 1947 New Look with delicate embroidery, voluminous skirts, modernised peplums paired with black cigarette pants. The avant-garde designer reconstructed Christian Dior‘s classic Bar jacket into a new silhouette that could possibly change history. I was in awed, literally. Who’s with me? See my Facebook Page for the full collection.

The ladies in black.

I die for peplums and cigarette pants with a little bit of romance.

Powder pink. Bright yellow.

Intricate embroidery with a modern twist.

The old/new silhouette.

Tie-dye madness.

Can you get fuller than this?

The unconventional seems conventional with Raf Simons.

Best Dressed: Oscars 2012

It’s the crème de la crème of the Awards season: The Oscars 2012! I woke up incredibly early this morning for the Oscars, in particular to shoot the Oscars Red Carpet Fashion Report for Yahoo!  (video is not up yet!). Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to watch The Oscars ‘live’ – as I would every year *disappointed* so I hope to catch the later telecast tonight. I have to say that it is not the most ” exciting Oscars this year (Remember Cate Blanchett in that divine Givenchy Haute Couture gown last year? Enough said). Stars kept their red carpet choices safe except for Jennifer Lopez with her peek-a-boo Zuhair Murad gown and everyone claimed that they saw “something”. This is the year of nudes, whites, reds and all that glitters like it’s 1920s. See below for my pick for Best Dressed (I wish I had mention Michelle Williams in my Yahoo! Oscars Red Carpet Fashion Report – but they didn’t have her picture. Oh well…):

I was at the studio with host Vivienne Tseng and Viona Wang, streetstyle blogger. Isn’t the set adorable? I’m wearing a vintage 1970s black and white striped jumpsuit with ruched sleeves from Granny’s Day Out. Like?

Who would have thought that Gwyneth Paltrow will steal the thunder from the Oscar nominees in this daring Tom Ford gown and gosh, cape! Stunning!

Michelle Williams is such a cutie pie and I absolutely love love love this coral Louis Vuitton gown with layered peplum and shiny bow detail.

Doesn’t she look glamorous? Viola Davis turned heads in this green Vera Wang gown with chiffon pleats. Even her accessories have a hint of green!

Jessica Chastain definitely stood out in this jaw-dropping custom Alexander McQueen organza gown with beautiful gold beading and hand embroidery.

Emma Stone compliments her red hair with this elegant Giambattista Valli gown with a giant bow tie at the neck and gosh, love the embellished Louis Vuitton clutch and earrings.

Rooney Mara is such a sight in this dreamy Givenchy Haute Couture gown that featured cream lace lined with chiffon. Her thick bangs and bright red lips are enough to kill.

Natalie Portman took a risk (a good one!) with this Christian Dior Haute Couture gown from Spring 1954. All the sudden, polka dots are relevant again!

Jennifer Lopez made headlines (besides Angelina Jolie’s right leg) with this sheer gown with cutouts – did you see something that I didn’t?

Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer stayed true to Tadashi Shoji who has been dressing her the entire awards season. Doesn’t she look glittery chic?

George Clooney didn’t need an Oscar – he already brought one with him! Stacy Keibler shines in this liquid gold Marchesa number.

Cameron Diaz glows like a Californian girl in this cream Gucci Premiere gown. I love the simplicity of the look with gorgeous Tiffany & Co. jewelery!

Penelope Cruz didn’t caught my eye this morning. On second look, she looks demure and beautiful in this Giorgio Armani periwinkle organza gown.
