Look Book: The Rain Song

It’s 10:15pm. I just got back from IKEA. I went home for a short break, and wardrobe change (since the rain hasn’t stop!). I got my full length mirror (finally!) and some other knick-knacks. This is what I wore to my IKEA trip (note: check out my new hair! It’s really short in the back - I call it my Aeon Flux-look):

Jacket: Sports jacket from MNG

Top: T-shirt from Threadless (I didn’t change! LOL)

Bag: Silver bag form River Island (very over-used, I know)

Bottom: Black jeans from Levis

Shoes: Rain boots from Plueys (Don’t think I should own more than one pair!)

Do you like my boy’s windbreaker/jacket? It’s from H&M - he calls it ‘red neck’ chic.

Look Book: Rain Rain Go Away!

It’s the weekend! It’s a rainy day outside and I’ve lotsa errands to run:

  1. A haircut. YES, I’m bored of my “neither-here nor there” hair. I blogged about Operation ‘Grow X-Wen’s Hair’ as part of my motivation to keep my hair long. I’m giving that up. Haha, sorry. In fact, I’m going to get quite a drastic haircut - you’ll see soon at Fashion Nation’s 2nd Year Anniversary party at Soon Lee tomorrow, 3pm to 5pm - see ya there!
  2. A brazillian (straight up) at Strip. How often do you get one? Honestly, I hate getting the B. Of course, the result is amazing - but is it worth the pain? I clinged tightly to the towel or sometimes, I’ll bite it - really hard. I’m such a sucker. Anyway, Bali trip is only four days away - I’m doing this for the bikini.
  3. IKEA trip. I need a full-length mirror like since forever. I’ve a bad history with breaking mirrors (in particular, IKEA ones) - so 14 years of bad luck? Anyway, I bet this one is going to be good. I don’t care. And, some other organizers for my crazy, bursting wardrobe. Yikes.

Top: T-shirt from Threadless

Bottom: Slouchy shorts from Uniqlo

Accessories: Necklace from H&M

Shop, Eat Guide to Hong Kong: H&M

Alas, yours truly has found love in H&M! I didn’t go crazy in there (but I should, dammit!). The sale items are very limited and they only have giant sizes. I’m quite sure the sale has been on-going for awhile now. I managed to find some pretty Fall ‘08 pieces. Then again, I didn’t take too many photos in H&M because I was busy flipping through the racks and fighting the Thursday afternoon crowd (can you believe that??)

I bought this swirly grey/black accordion skirt - I’m not really a skirt kinda girl but this won me over! I love it. I didn’t get the basic white shirt as it is a little transparent. What do you think of this purple floral print top? Very Balenciaga? I got it because it was pretty cute. Also, got a black cropped blazer, bag and some accessories. Bubster found himself some country shirts and also plaid jackets. Very unlike him, but I’m proud of my man for making stylish choices. Bring H&M to Singapore!!

Preview: H&M 2008 Fall Collection

As time gets closer to my birthday/HK-trip, I’m quietly sneak a peek at H&M 2008 Fall Collection. And of course, plan my shopping ahead of time! Fall/Winter collection never really applies in Singapore - which explains the extremely hot weather we’ve been enduring over here. However, Fall/Winter also means ‘holidays’ to cold countries towards the end of the year. Tokyo, here I come! In the meantime, I promise you won’t be disappointed with H&M’s new collection. And, are you anticipating Comme des Garçons for H&M Fall 2008?

Colour Me Beautiful
Colour tights! Yes, we’re not getting enough of long, colourful legs. Model, Heather Marks looked really cute in the mini dress with black blazer and high-waisted skirt with pink trench coat.

Knitwear & Socks
Knitwear is a Fall staple - unfortunately, I have sensitive skin and it itches me crazy. I like the boots and blood orange sock with high waisted tulip skirt. Love the stack of bangles too!

Mens Inspiration
Here are some unusual twist to men-inspired cuts for women. I like the idea of giving the look a different texture and silhouette with a burst of bright orange and green. OMG, I want boots.

Geeky Cute
I love that tube-top with the dotted lines! Not too sure about pairing it with wide-leg pants though. I need geeky glasses and did I mention BOOTS?

More Knits & Wide Leg Trousers
You can get pretty inspiration for office wear during the cold season. I love the ultra-high boots… lol and the print flare top. It’s very feminine yet chic.

Look Right
Long dresses are still hanging around. I like how Heather wears flowers on her wrist. Also, we need some hats! More jackets too.

I Want I Want
I want 50s-inspired poufy skirts and bring in more stripes! It seems like ankle boots are sticking around and we’ll have more to shop for!

Love Long
Don’t you love the oriental-inspired top and trench with a bow tied at the neck. So feminine and unique at the same time. Goodbye summer, and hello rain/snow/autumn!

H&M loves Marimekko

Photographer: Liselotte Watkins (Illustrator)

Everyone squealed/cheeered/screamed over H&M’s recent confirmed collaboration with Comme des Garçons. Let’s talk about the H&M’s Tribute to Marimekko collection that hits the stores recently on 10 April. The Finnish textile and fashion house, Marimekko is the latest addition to H&M’s list of high-profile collaborators. For this highly anticipated collection, Marimekko used “some of their extensive back catalogue of patterns from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s” to create a range of “floaty tunics, skirts and dresses and for men there will be shirts and shorts”.

Margareta Den Bosch, H&M head of design said, “The summer collection 2008 will be joyfully fresh like a vitamin injection”. Famous for their striking bold clean prints, it was First Lady cum fashion icon, Jackie Kennedy that “put Marimekko on the international map when she wore their dresses during her husband’s 1960 presidential campaign”. I’m digging the vintage-cut swimsuit (see above)… sweet.

The tribute collection boasts “perfect combinations of red and pink; olive and orange; red and turquoise; red, white and black”. Think psychedelic, baby! I love the high-waisted poufy skirt with loud graphics. Definitely very 60s. Did you notice they pair everything with a simple ankle-gladiator sandals?

This collection uses a mixture of fabrics such as cotton, jersey, cotton/silk mix. It’s going to be very comfy for a breezy summer lovin’. I like the idea of standing out from the crowd - this collaboration is a cross between modernizing vintage fabrics.

If you’re afraid to experiment with colours, you can stick with the monochromatic colours - black & white. The crazy swirls reminded me of IKEA fabrics - but of course, it’s not.

Did I mention I’m going to Hong Kong realllllyyy soon? First stop, H&M
