Robot Love: Cyborg She

Love is more than just 0101010101, it’s about feeling the ‘heart’. Well, that’s what I learn from this cute sci-fi love story, Cyborg She (a.k.a. Boku no Kanojo wa Cyborg or My Girlfriend is a Cyborg) directed by Kwak Jae-Young (Director of My Sassy Girl). To be honest, I didn’t have much expectations from this film considering I rarely watch ‘cute’ Asian romantic comedies. My Sassy Girl is prolly the last Asian comedy I saw due to the immense hype. There are similarities between the characters in Cyborg She and My Sassy Girl - there’s the lovable otaku or geek and the crazy, cute chick in a life-changing journey. This unnamed cyborg (Haruka Ayase), is really cute - I mean, she’s hot cute, not cute cute. Keisuke Koide plays the adorable loser character to perfection - at times, you just wanna give him a hug for being silly (especially his WTF dance moves in the nightclub!). I really enjoyed this film, and the slapstick Japanese humour! Even if you’re not a Korean/Japanese love story fan, you’ll find this film pretty charming. Enjoy! This film opens in Singapore on August 21st.

I couldn’t resist her cute clothes!

Love the dress!

Cyborg that loves shopping and high heels. True robotic fashionista!

Yellow turtle neck, sweet.

I’ll zap you if you don’t kiss me.

She wears alot of turtle necks and stripes. Chicken bones are tasty.

Oh yeah, you’ll shed some tears in true Asian fashion.

For the ultimate otaku, you can buy Cyborg She figurines! Nice.

See, stripes and turtlenecks. Never knew they could be so chic.

These are so cute. LOL.

Cave by Sakura Adachi

Sakura Adachi: Cave

In urban life, there seems to be a common understanding that people tend to consciously or subconsciously become wary of strangers surrounding them. They are always balancing a certain level of privacy with others. A bookcase CAVE provides a private reading space within its form. As a seat height is just above the floor, CAVE gives a feeling of hiding from others standing around it. Books can be stored on both sides. Therefore, CAVE can also functions as a partition of a room.

Sakura Adachi: Cave Pets

Being inspired by CAVE, CAVE_pet’s is a bookcase with an intervention of domestic pet’s (dogs and cats) house. Since animals have difensive behaviour by nature, they tend to stay in corner of a room, hidden space and etc. CAVE_pet’s can provide such a private space to your dog or cat. CAVE_pet’s has bookshelves on one side, and can be placed against a wall. It is more slim and conpact solution than CAVE. Therefore, it can be installed also in a small room.

I haven’t been to Tokyo yet - I’ve marked it in my 2008 “must-go” travel diary. Thus, I decided to do a lil’ preliminary research on what Tokyo has in-store for me in October. TOKYOMADE is a one-stop e-store that supports Japanese indie designers, and “shoppers can check out what’s happening on the streets of Tokyo and pick up some of the hottest Tokyo must-haves..” I’ve to say, there are some hidden gems within several mouse-clicks. Go explore! You’ll be delighted to find something that you’ve never seen before.

Tokyo Made: Mystery Novel & Leon

Mystery Novel & Leon

From toys to bags to kooky necklaces, TOKYOMADE has a variety of stylish treasures. I particularly dig Mystery Novel, it “has been handcrafted using fresh water pearls, white opal, swarovski crystals, vintage lace and an arm”. Yeah, an arm! It’s a “kitschy yet elegant necklace reminiscent of a 1950s murder mystery novel” - now that’s a story behind a design. On the flip side, Leon makes me laugh. Now, I can’t wait to go to Tokyo *fingers-crossed*
