NYFW 2009: The Highlights

Eight days. 100 fabulous fashion shows. Thousands of Twitter-thumbs. And, a very slow blogger. I have been looking through the thousands of photos and selecting my very favorite from each collection of some of my favourite designers. This is hard work for me! I cheated, maybe two or three favorites. I’m lovin’ the classy suits by 3.1 Phillip Lim, sexy silhouettes by Alexander Wang, organza madness from Jason Wu, color blocks by Marc by Marc Jacobs, whimsical ‘Nutcracker’ pieces by Erin Featherston, mixture of goodness by Diane von Furstenburg, trendy princess sleeves by Karen Walker, unique curves by Jonathan Saunders and modern subculture reinterpretations by Rag & Bone.

Twilight bug has bitten NZ fashion designer, Karen Walker in her latest eyewear collection called “Celebrate Sun” for Spring/Summer 2009. I first blogged about Karen Walker here after my last trip to NZ. Her quirky, crazy sunnies continuously win me over and over again – now I really want a pair! The idea behind this campaign is to “induce even the most sun phobic to bask”. Pretty awesome concept, I must say. Imagine vampires frolicking in the sun with their Karen Walkers. I wouldn’t dare say, “Ditch your Raybans!” but I think Edward Cullen is going to rock these sunnies. Give the vamp some bloody style!

NZ Designer: Karen Walker Eyewear

I’ve been eyeing Karen Walker Eyewear since my last trip to NZ. They’re different, eccentric and full of awesomeness. This eyewear collection is by one of NZ’s best-known fashion designers as Karen Walker recreates the “Nicole Richie” look with over-sized sunnies. Her quirky style has brought this designer to new heights since showing her collection at Australia, London and New York’s Fashion Weeks. The Karen Walker Eyewear line of whimsical sunnies was launched in October 2005. No doube the collection was sold out in two weeks. Talk about funky sales!
