Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Like it or not, the 2013 MET Gala is fashion’s biggest red carpet event of the year. The fashion stars and designers pulled out their biggest guns (or gowns, to be more precise) to battle into the Best Dressed list. This year’s theme is Punk: Chaos to Couture but it seems like not everyone got the memo. Get ready for a sea of black, hair color surprises and jaw-dropping fashion moments (and I kid you not). For more red carpet photos, head over to my Facebook Page. Punk or not, here are my picks for the night:

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

This is definitely love at second sight. I love the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker interpreted the theme so awesomely well with Giles Fall 2013 gown and a custom Philip Treacy “mohawk” headpiece. A winner, don’t you think?

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

This is possibly my favourite look of the night. Kate Bosworth killed it with this Balmain Fall 2013 top – worn as a short dress. Smokin’!

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

*claps like a maniac* Now, that’s a fashion risk that only Kirsten Stewart can take. Doesn’t she look fiery in this Stella McCartney lace jumpsuit – and that makeup! Woah!

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Once again, Beyonce reminds us who’s in charged in this show-stopping Givenchy gown with matching print boots. Like hello!!!

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Rooney, oh Rooney. What’s new? Rooney Mara may be recycling an “old” look but this Givenchy Fall 2010 Couture gown is still gorgeous.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

How do you stand out in a sea of black? Nina Dobrev made it look so easy in her super haute Monique Lhuillier corseted, black lace pantsuit with a major tulle skirt. Yes, Nina 1 everyone else 0.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Gwyneth Paltrow always looked immaculate in pink. If only she added some punk element to her Valentino Couture gown, that would be perfect.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Alright, haters gonna hate. I honestly think Miley Cyrus didn’t look that bad (considering her new punk image) in this Marc Jacobs mesh dress. What do you think?

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Kate Beckinsale nailed it with this Alberta Ferretti red asymmetrical hem dress with punk “geometric” earrings.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Christina Ricci got the memo right and called the Queen of Punk, Vivienne Westwood for this amazeballz tartan gown.

Best Dressed: 2013 Met Gala

Amanda Seyfried is oozing in glamour with Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci silk-chiffon gown. Punk? Maybe not – but who cares!

Bset Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Let’s admit it. The Brits know their punk from couture. Sienna Miller is elegantly studded in Burberry. You can’t deny how awesome she looks.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Nicole Richie‘s gray-blue hair is probably the most talk-about besides everything else. She’s like the stylista version of X-Men’s Storm, don’t you think? Once again, the high street hits the red carpet… this time, it’s Topshop.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

Between Anja Rubik and Gisele Bundschen, I pick Anja. She absolutely embodies punk in this red leather Anthony Vaccarello short dress with metal detailing.

Best Dressed: 2013 MET Gala

I love post-Tom Cruise’s Katie Holmes alot. She may not be all-so-punk but she looks divine in this white ethereal Calvin Klein gown.

Best Dressed: 2012 MTV EMAs

OH YES. The 2012 MTV EMAs is all about Gangnam Style. Yes, dress classy and dance cheesy. Country cutie Taylor Swift went home with the most awards but we are more interested in what she is wearing. What’s awesome about the EMAs (in my humble opinion) is the complete randomness. You can expect the most eclectic tastes in music and icons (The Hoff. Enough said.). Let’s see who wears what at the 2012 MTV EMAs and absolutely rocked it:

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Rita Ora

Rita Ora pulled out the big guns in this dramatic, red Marchesa Fall 2012 gown. LOVE IT!

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys hit the spot in this Stella McCartney tri-colour “Miracle” dress. That hair is just sharp!

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Kim Kardashian

YES. Kim Kardashian set the benchmark in this remarkable Stephane Rolland dress with a glamorous train.

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Pixie Geldof

I couldn’t help but notice Pixie Geldof clutching on her Maison Martin Margiela for H&M candy wrapper clutch in metallic pink. HOT!

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Heidi Klum

I can’t decide whether I like this or not (seriously). Heidi Klum definitely stood out in this Versace Spring 2013 number.

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Anna V

Anna V lives her life dangerously in this “smoking” zipper dress.

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Taylor Swift

I’ve seen Taylor Swift in these white, ethereal one, too many dresses. She still looks beautiful in this J. Mendel Fall 2012 gown.

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey excudes vintage glamour in this satin, blue dress. Simple yet chic.

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Louise Roe

Louise Roe channels the glam gladiator in this gorgeous white dress. Not lovin’ the snakeskin clutch though!

Best Dressed 2012 MTV EMAs: Carly Rae Jepsen

Call me, maybe? Carly Rae Jepsen shines in this Johanna Johnson dress.

Best Dressed: MTV Video Music Awards 2012

It’s time for the VMAs! Who doesn’t love watching the MTV Video Music Awards? Congratulations to the big winners – One Direction, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and etc. but Fash-Eccentric is more interested in the red carpet looks. This year, the stars minimized their risks with safer options (well, except for Nicki Minaj). To be honest, this isn’t the most exciting red carpet action this year – so I’m going to cut to the chase. Here are my favourite from the red carpet – predictable? Precisely. Alright, let’s move on to NYFW instead.

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Emma Watson

Emma Watson looked quirky cool in this mixed print Peter Pilotto outfit.

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Rihanna

Rihanna debut her new cropped hair (which I think it’s absolutely fab!) and love her white Adam Selman gown.

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Miley Cyrus

I’ve to say, Miley Cyrus surprised me with this Emilio Pucci gown and that high-flying hair (isn’t this Pink‘s look?). Anyway, I love her edgy look!

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Katy Perry

Katy Perry toned it down with this gorgeous, sheer Elie Saab gown.

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift just can’t wait to grow up. Like Rihanna, she experimented with an all-white J. Mendel suit.

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Pink

Pink showed off her hot bod in this stunning Stella McCartney gown.

The Chic-tionary of the London 2012 Olympics

We are only hours away before the kick-off of London 2012 Olympics at 4:00am (Singapore Time). Who’s excited? I am! I’ve been reading a lot about the Olympics and getting up to date with the news. I feel the most patriotic during sporting events – what about you? I wish I’m in London right at this moment to experience the Olympics buzz. If you are clueless about the Olympics, well it’s time to get up to speed with Fash-Eccentric‘s The Chictionary of the London 2012 Olympics (because it has almost everything to do with fashion and style):

A is for Athletes
Ooh, who are the hottest athletes to watch out for at the London 2012 Olympics? If you don’t know anything about sports, just look out for eye-candy like me. I have a long list of favourites but let me just shortlist two – just for now. For the next 16 days, I’ll keep updating my Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for your viewing pleasure.

London 2012 Olympics: Hope Solo

Hope Solo is the goalie for Team USA’s women’s soccer team. This woman has appeared on the cover of Vogue US‘s June 2012 issue and an outspoken personality which got her kicked out of the team – once. Now, she’s back in action and can she help Team USA reach the finals?

London 2012 Olympics: Tom Daley

Seriously. Just look at him. I feel like a cradle-snatcher just blogging about Team GB‘s prodigy diver, Tom Daley. This 18-year old is sooo boy-band material and definitely a heart-breaker. I don’t even want to go into the details of his washboard abs. This young chap has already appeared in Vogue Italia with Kate Moss at age 15. Jealous much? Let’s just say that I’ll be watching the Diving events aloooott.

B is for Best Uniforms
From Stella McCartney for Team GB to the Emporio Armani for Team Italy, it is almost like a fashion challenge for the countries to design the most functional yet stylish uniforms and sports gear for their Olympians. My ultimate pick is South Korean‘s 2012 Olympics uniform designed by Italian sportswear brand, Fila and South Korean label, Bean Pole. Inspired by the 1948 Olympic Games uniform, the sailor-inspired uniform with navy blazers, white fedoras, sleek white pants, red handkerchiefs, argyle socks and white oxford shoes. Now, can we buy this because I want one too? Another outstanding uniform is Jamaica designed by Bob Marley‘s daughter, Cedella Marley with Puma.

London 2012 Olympics: South Korean Uniforms by Fila and Bean Pole

South Korean’s London 2012 Olympics uniform designed by Fila and Bean Pole.

London 2012 Olympics: Jamaica Uniform by Cedella Marley for Puma

Jamaica’s London 2012 Olympics uniform designed by Cedella Marley for Puma.

C is Commemorative Souvenirs
I am the No. 1 Tacky Queen. I love commemorative souvenirs, for some strange reasons. Anything “limited edition, “special edition” catches my attention for obvious reasons. Here are some of my favourites and it’s time for you to catch on to the Olympics MANIA:

London 2012 Olympics: Commemorative Souvenirs

From top, left (clockwise): Miu Miu “The London Special Edition” collection, Bally-rina Athena (HKD 3,990) & Bally Hanoe fabric tote (US$695), Solange Azagury-Partridge ‘Brittania Hotlips’ ring (£1,150), Marks and Spencer London 2012 Olympic Biscuit Tin 255gChurch’s ‘Stratford’ lace-ups (£195)Pandora Olympic Collection Charms (from SGD55), Crabtree & Evelyn Evelyn Rose Mini Set (SGD30), Vintage-Inspired Olympics Gap Olympic Triblend Tank (US$24.90) and Tatty Devine ‘Medallist’ necklace (from £27.50).

London 2012 Olympics: Mulberry Union Jack Bayswater

If you prefer a subtle commemorative souvenir that you can use everyday, you’ll love this Mulberry Union Jack Bayswater (SGD1999) featuring the Postman’s Lock with an understated engraved Union Jack. This is definitely a collective must-have.

D is for Duchess of Cambridge
The question is… “What is Kate Middleton going to wear at the Olympics?” Everyone wants to know.

London 2012 Olympics: Kate Middleton Greeting Olympic Torch

Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William together with Prince Harry greeted the torch at Buckingham Palace. The Duchess of Cambridge was spotted in a white Team GB polo tee and blue skinny jeans from ZARA with black wedges from Stuart Weitzman. Love how she is embracing the Olympics spirit!

London 2012 Olympics: Kate Middleton / Duchess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton is obviously taking a her role seriously as she plays table tennis in a cute Hobbs Wessex dress at Bacon’s College to launch a junior coaching program. She was also spotted in coral skinny jeans by ZARA and Pucci blazer when visiting the Olympics Park.

It’s time to COUNTDOWN to the London 2012 Olympics!

Workwear Edition: The Suit VS The Creative

Let me tell you a true story: I started working part-time in an unfamiliar work environment. What do I mean by that? It is a territory of black, corporate suits with no colours or anything above your knee. I was stumped. I took one look into my wardrobe and for once, I truly had nothing to wear. You see, it’s not easy for someone like who came from a creative background to be thrown into a sea of black and grey. I will not go into the painful details but this experience greatly inspired this blog post about The Suit VS The Creative. It doesn’t matter where you work – to be very honest – but you can still look chic and express your individuality. I don’t believe in fashion communism. Don’t be pressured into something you are not – otherwise, you can never gain happiness. Now, stop cracking your head on how to look less boring at work and read on:

THE SHIRT

WorkwearThe Suit: It is not the end of the world. The key to wearing shirts is to make sure they are tailored and not sloppy. Paired your shirt with a sleek, cigarette pants or pencil skirt for the ultra-profession look. Ooh, don’t forget sharp heels. I love this ASOS Shirt With Scalloped Collar (from £15.00) – subtle details like the scalloped collar adds a little zing to your outfit.

The Creative: Well, go on and get crazy with prints, sheer chiffon and whatever. You’ve got the world in your hands. Don’t be afraid to go wild with colours. I’m a big fan of this Ted Baker Stripe Shirt (£89.00) paired with skinny denim with a bright pink belt accent.

THE PANTS

Workwear

The Suit: It’s time to keep things sleek and simple. There is nothing more flattering than a well-fitted pants. Play around with the style such as tapered, skinny and wide-leg pants. Take the The Row Matthis stretch-jersey straight-leg pants (£307.62) which features subtle zipper details. If you’re tall, the Stella McCartney Jasmine wool-twill wide-leg pants (£298.71) would look fab on you.

The Creative: You know, I wanna be back on your side. The printed pants are trendy this Fall/Winter 2012 season. I am absolutely digging this Helmut Lang Cicadae printed stretch-twill leggings (£227.37) which looks great with a white shirt and black blazer. Otherwise, amp up your wardrobe with bright colours like this Preen Wool-crepe straight-leg pants (£597.41).

THE SKIRT

Workwear

The Suit: You probably love your pencil skirts. It’s always good to keep a good variety of basics in your wardrobe. For instance, thisicon Stella McCartney Alyssa wool-twill skirt (£325.46) is a safe choice. If you’re facing the same situation as me (no skirts above the knee), don’t worry! The Midi skirt is the length-of-the-moment. WHAT? Well, Midi is cut-off at an awkward “somewhere in between” length. Or you might want to explore something like this Zero+MariaCornejo Printed stretch-silk maxi skirt (£450.29).

The Creative: I love printed skirts. That’s just me. I’m such a sucker for this bright, quirky Jonathan Saunders Roselyn printed cotton-blend skirt (£459.21) and amazing Mary Katrantzou Printed silk pencil skirt (£584.04). It is key to keep your top simple and basic but colour-block your accessories for maximum impact.

That’s all for now. The Workwear Edition will be continued next week with more accessories, bags and gosh, shoes!

OK, I admit. I love my Glee boys. Chord Overstreet is soooo hot – seriously. Just look at him. Ahh, sexy facial hair too.

5 Reasons Why 2012 is Stella McCartney’s Year

I received my first Stella McCartney for Adidas as a present from Bubster in our early dating years – a pair of silver trainers which I wore it to death. What I love about Stella McCartney is she designs for today’s women in mind. She knows what we want to wear – and what we absolutely ‘die’ for. Here are five reasons why I think 2012 is Stella McCartney‘s year – and she will continue to be in Fash-Eccentric‘s radar:

1. Stella McCartney designed Great Britain’s Olympics Uniform

Her long-time collaboration with Adidas makes Stella McCartney the no-brainer choice to design for the GB team. This is the first-time a luxury designer has been appointed to design for the nation’s sports team. Who says sports isn’t stylish? Despite the mixed reviews, I honestly think that this 26-piece uniforms are more chic than most countries’ uniforms – so boys and girls, stop complaining.

2. Stella McCartney Fall 2012 Collection – SIMPLY SMASHING!

Stella hasn’t lost her sporty beat as her Fall 2012 collection plays with fluid lines and sporty collars. Everything out of proportion seems to be a hit as Stella McCartney‘s coats are big this Fall with voluminous shapes (in my opinion, hide the fats!). But, what really attracted me was the vivid ultramarine hues partnered with tweedy browns. The floral embroidery adds a touch of femininity and I love this super chic dress as seen on Karlie Kloss.

3. Celebrities love Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney has been getting alot of red carpet lovin’ from the Hollywood A-listers such as Charlize Theron, Kirsten Stewart, Naomi Watts, Kirsten Wiig, Rihanna and etc. Remember that hawt body-con sheer panel dress worn by almost everyone? Well, Gwen Stefani is still wearing it – once hawt, always HAWT.

4. Stella McCartney is a Green, Vegan-Friendly

IT IS POSSIBLE. Fashion can be chic and sustainable at the same time. Lifelong vegan, Stella McCartney donated eco friendly Falabella bags to Christie’s Green Auction: Bid to Save the Earth in April 2012. This project marries both art and fashion a group of artists redesigned the Falabella bags for this special Green Auction. The final proceeds from the Green Auction benefit leading environmental organizations including Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation International, and Central Park Conservancy. At Fash-Eccentric, we LOVE AND SUPPORT anything green and sustainable.

5. Stella McCartney’s first free-standing boutique at the Hilton Shopping Gallery in Singapore.

Opened in April 2012, the 1,250 square feet Stella McCartney boutique carries the brand’s luxury women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, sunglasses and lingerie collections. Previously, Stella McCartney was stocked in Club21‘s flagship boutique. Go check it out the new boutique at Hilton Shopping Gallery on the 2nd floor.

Best Dressed: Grammy Awards 2012

After a long day & night of Laneway Festival 2012, music fans are not sitting still yet because it’s the 54th Annual Grammy’s! It’s always fun at the Grammys with the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. I prefer to call it ‘High Fashion Freak Show’. In a good way (at times, baffling), of course. This is the year of the LBDs at the Grammys – I wonder if the color choice has anything to do with the mourning for the late Whitney Houston. RIP Whitney. The rest of the stars such as Katy Perry, Fergie, Taylor Swift, and Nicki Minaj are splashing out on the red carpet in a myriad of colors and shimmer. Here are my picks for Best Dressed and a couple of ‘outstanding’ dresses that I can’t possibly opt out from my blog post. No prizes for guesses!

Katy Perry looks absolutely divine in this icy blue Elie Saab gown and that blue pompadour! Amazing.

Right on trend with Tangerine! Fergie knows how to stand out from the crowd in this see-through lace Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2012 Couture gown.

Hubba! Hubba! Can you blame me for the wolf-whistles when Rihanna stepped out in this slinky Giorgio Armani gown with delicate gold jewelery?

This country music cutie, Taylor Swift dresses as a winner in this amazing Zuhair Murad figure-hugging lace gown.

Congrats to Adele for winning big! Super well-deserved and I absolutely heart her vintage-look in this black embellished Giorgio Armani gown.

GAGA. GAGA. GAGA. Versace has created two high-fashion creatures tonight. One is Lady Gaga. The other one is…

NICKI MINAJ! Seriously, I don’t like this. Most importantly, I don’t get it. But I’ve to blog about this Versace robe with a “Pope” as her accessory? Too crazy not to blog about this!

Kelly Rowland kept it glam with this gorgeous Alberta Ferretti sequinned bodice, slim dress. I love it!

Gwyneth Paltrow looks immaculate in this black cut-out, halter Stella McCartney gown. Beautiful yet understated.

Ferocious! Alicia Keys keep it simple yet structured with this Alexandre Vauthier LBD. LOVE the hair!

I love Kelly Osbourne‘s glittery champagne gown by Tony Ward. Believe it or not, I actually like Paris Hilton‘s embroidered Basil Soda gown.

Jessie J toned down her kooky dressing with this ilver Julien Macdonald dress. And, Corinne Bailey Rae is ready to party in this tulle frock from Christian Siriano’s Fall 2011 collection.

Spring Summer 2012 Color Trend Guide: Orange, Color-Blocking & Pastels

Gong Xi Fa Cai to my Chinese readers! I’ve been back in my sleepy hometown, Taiping to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with family, friends and loads of food and fireworks :) I had such a blast – it’s prolly the best CNY this decade! Back to FASHION: Let’s talk about what are the hottest colors this Spring Summer 2012. According to the H&M Trend Guide for Woman for Spring Summer 2012 video, we will see pastels, a new way of color blocking, silk trousers, pencil skirts, and a dressed, grown up look with a lot of sharp tailoring. Of course, we’ve been seeing orange hues on the runway and on the window displays – it’s definitely the hottest color this SS2012! The best thing about this season is the colors.
